The car went in to neutral to make sure you wouldn’t be going full throtlle if the tires would be lifted from the ground. But this is a streetcar not a rally car that switches a ton of very expensive parts quite often xD Btw they also said it “component protection”. Better having that then staying in gear and having heavy damage afterwards.
Why is everyone freaking out about the tires? First of all, they're not RACE tires, they're road legal. Second, EVERY SINGLE other hot hatchback, like the Megane RS, Civic Type R, Golf GTI Clubsport, Seat Leon Cupra, etc. all used the same grade, semi-slick, track focused tires as well. Also, people ignore that just putting semi-slick tires onto any car doesn't lead to better results. Semi-slick tires increase the grip a lot, but they also increase all the loads on the chassis, the suspension, the body, etc. If the cars chassis is not good enough, it will wallow around, lack body control, lean too much in the corners, etc. Only cars with a great chassis can handle having such high grip tires on them and STILL be super refined, super smooth, with excellent body control. That means the chassis on this car is very tight and well tuned.
I'm pretty sure that the Megane Trophy-R was on its factory tyres which aren't proper semi slicks. Still it's beating this A-class by quite a bit. I know it's stripped down but well, it still shows how good the Renault's chassis is.

I have to disagree here : Sport auto has an experienced driver, he's been doing hot laps for years and he knows the track perfectly so at this point he is no different to a factory driver.
Meiner Meinung nach unfair von Mercedes einen Reifen bereit zu stellen der null alltagstauglich ist , obwohl es ein Alltags Auto ist , der das Ergebnis um sicher 10 Sekunden zu einem normalen Reifen (PS4 , Supersport ) verfälscht . Und dazu kommt noch das der Tropfers R Reifen noch nicht einmal ein options Reifen Werksseitig ist , also gar nciht angeboten wird beim A 45 s . Übrigens streute der Getestete Wagen schlappe 8,3 Prozent mit der Werksleistung nach oben (456ps) siehe aktuelle Sport Auto Zeitung . fraglich ob ein normaler A45 s jemals annähernd die Zeiten von Kunden fahren würde . Trotzdem top gefahren . Grüße.
@@DonLee1980 i don't know about the A45s but for my focus RS, the crank HP is 350 and I have 250-270 something HP on wheel when we run the dyno, i couldn't recall the exact HP I got but it's a great loss compared to the power on the crank
AMDxSTorM the difference power loss with FWD and AWD is about 10% and 20% in total power. Don’t forget the A45 is primarily FWD biased. The power to the wheels of the A45s should be still considerably more than even the crank HP of the civic.
a45s is kinda heavy though. I think it weighs 1635 kgs which is 200kgs heavier compared to the Civic. Civic has 225 hp/ton vs 255 hp/ton of the A45S. Civic has a drag coefficient of 0.26 while the A45S has a drag coefficient of 0.34. The horsepower difference is offset with a lot more drag from the Merc. The heavier Merc couldn’t keep up in the corners, and there are 170 corners in the Nurburgring. Not being a Honda fanboi or anything but the evidence is against Merc on this one. There are plenty of cars that have a similar lap time (faster and slower) to the Merc that have much less power. Namely the Renault Megane Trophy, Honda NSX-R, 2011 Impreza WRX STi. On the flip side, the original R35 GT-R is only 8 seconds faster than this. A Lambo Murcielago is only 6 seconds faster than the Merc. The 1st gen Audi R8 V10 is only 4 seconds faster than this hatch.
This is quite fast even with the gearbox fault, although it's done on Trofeo R, which is silly sticky and makes the 7:52 done by Supra and M2 Comp seem slightly more impressive

Mit dem Carporn vorne weg deutlich runderes Format statt nur die schnelle Runde auf der Nordschleife. In Anlehnung an Fast Lap vielleicht noch ein paar Worte des Fahrers im Anschluss zum Auto und zur schnellen Runde auf der NOS und es gibt nix mehr zu ergänzen. :) Weiter so. Zum A45S: Ein echter Traumwagen in der Hot Hatch Klasse. Die Zeit ist echt beeindruckend. Bezüglich der Reifenwahl bin ich aber auch eher skeptisch. M.W. ist der Trofeo R noch kompromissloser als der häufig bei VAG verwendete Cup 2. Ich kann mir kaum vorstellen, dass viele Kunden für ein 1,6 Tonnen Fahrzeug für knapp 80 k Euro diesen Reifen wählen werden. Es ist kein klassisches Track Day Car so dass die Zeit auf der NOS zwar beeindruckend und spannend zu sehen ist, aber für die Realität vermutlich wenig Relevanz hat. Dennoch großen Respekt an AMG. Der A45S ist ein tolles Auto geworden. Daumen hoch.
Fave ich wüsste zu gerne wo es diese Reifen zu kaufen gibt, ich habe schon einige Händler angesprochen, alle gaben mir die Auskunft: Nicht lieferbar. Ich fahre übrigens seit kurzen den A45S, war aber noch nicht auf dem Track damit...

Sitzt man kurz drin oder länger etc. Fands z.b. in der neuen E Klasse auch scheiße, dann hatten wir eine für längere Zeit und fands ganz gut, dann hab ich eine selbst konfigurierte gehabt und fand den innenraum perfekt, sodass ich nochmal eine e klasse genommen hatte.. Ist echt auch gewohnheitssache

Ich bin eigentlich echter mercdes Fan, ich hatte das Auto letzte Woche zum Probefahren da ich mir eigentlich den CLA 45S ab Oktober leasen wollte, aber nach dem Wochenende hab ich mir das nochmal überlegt. Vorneweg das Auto macht richtig Laune aber das nervigste und das hört man in diesem Video auch schon ist dieser grotten schlechte Lautsprecher Sound man hat nach außen kaum ein Geräusch alles was man hier hört ist künstlich es kommt zu 98% aus den Lautsprechern was man gerade in Sport+ sehr stark merkt. Ich fahre momentan nen CLA 250 mit umgebauter AGA und der liefert mehr Emotion als der AMG was echt traurig ist

The Truth They said that already, it was 0.8 sec. Those semi-slick tires can gain up to 1.5 sec in a 4 km track over a very good tire like the Michelin PS4. Considering the Nordschleife is roughly 20 km. We’re talking up to 7.5 sec total. That’s something. But I note that in every car using those tires or the Cup 2’s , like the Cayman GT4. But make no mistake, I love the new A45 S AMG. It’s only a fair comment!
Guys, comparing a test done by a professional driver and organized by a brand and another that is done by an Auto magazine is not really fair ... + there is a new official course on the Nürburgring since this year, ( before the test from Renault) with a complete lap which makes now 20.832 km (start and end of the lap on the start / finish line, start of T13). On this route, the time of the Megane is 7 minutes 45 seconds 389. They only gave the 7:40 to brag they have beaten the Civic. Finally, we are talking about a car stripped to the extreme which must be unlivable on a daily basis. Lastly, i'm pretty sure to pick a cute woman in the Merc , the other is just a Renault :D
This is cheating, trofeo R is about 1second faster than Cup2 per minute and 2 seconds faster than high performance summer tires per minute, so if A45S equipped with factory sport tires it would be around 15 seconds slower, which would be 8:03(minus the time loss caused by gearbox issue)
German Big Yeah I know, I am just saying if A45S uses similar tyre that everyone else uses, then it would be a slow car, you do get better lap-times with Trofeo R but these tyres are terrible in cold and wet conditions, also comfort, NVH and tread wear is bad. if the A45S can do the same lap time with P0 Corsa or PS4S then it’s really the king of the hatch backs, but claim the crown by fitting some tyres that are not really livable for everyday driving? What’s the point

The Megane Trophy R is 8 seconds quicker with 120bhp less. So the standard Trophy should be still as quick if not quicker still 🤔 Heck, a Type R is quicker too.
@@onehorsepower He speaks about the standard "RS Trophy" which makes 300 hp like the "RS Trophy-R" but with different setup and 130 kg more weight, and not the RS 280. And yes the regular Mégane 4 RS Trophy is easily sub 8.00 on Nordschleife, maybe somewhere around 7:45/7:50 while Trophy R is 7:40. It is just minimaly slower than the Trophy-R but way cheaper. A colleague of mine bought it new at Renault Frankfurt for 35K. This Mercedes has a lot more HP, but the chassis is not on the level of the Mégane and the Civic.
@@pokest225 7.40 is the official time of the Mégane RS Trophy-R. Mercedes have to send their own driver, and see if they can do better. This Mercedes tested by Sport Auto is on semi-slicks (Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R) while the Mégane tested by Sport Auto is on Sport Summer tires (Bridgestone Potenza S007 RS). This makes a huge difference. Now put the R.S. Trophy-R with semi slicks and you will see the difference though the Mégane has a lot less HP.

It's better to compare factory lap times to factory lap times cuz every manufatcurer will put the best lap their car can do vs magazine lap time that may not always be in perfect conditions
The Alfa laptime was set by the manufacturer with a professional driver, unknown settings and not by a neutral sportscars journalist. The only neutral comparison was on the Sachsenring where the A45S was quicker than the QV by 2 sec. Apart from the fact that this two cars aren‘t rivals in the same category.

Pre-crash systems activated because all 4 wheels left the ground and car expected a crash. It puts it into neutral by default.

Du sprichst hier vom normalen Megane RS , es ist kein Trophy (300PS) und der Trophy R ist nochmal ne ganz andere Nummer.

Please don't mix up factory times with the times of AMS. In the AMS the Type R did a time over 8 min (8:06) with the same driver.

Zum A45S: Ein echter Traumwagen in der Hot Hatch Klasse. Die Zeit ist echt beeindruckend. Bezüglich der Reifenwahl bin ich aber auch eher skeptisch. M.W. ist der Trofeo R noch kompromissloser als der häufig bei VAG verwendete Cup 2. Ich kann mir kaum vorstellen, dass viele Kunden für ein 1,6 Tonnen Fahrzeug für knapp 80 k Euro diesen Reifen wählen werden. Es ist kein klassisches Track Day Car so dass die Zeit auf der NOS zwar beeindruckend und spannend zu sehen ist, aber für die Realität vermutlich wenig Relevanz hat. Dennoch großen Respekt an AMG. Der A45S ist ein tolles Auto geworden. Daumen hoch.
Fave ich wüsste zu gerne wo es diese Reifen zu kaufen gibt, ich habe schon einige Händler angesprochen, alle gaben mir die Auskunft: Nicht lieferbar. Ich fahre übrigens seit kurzen den A45S, war aber noch nicht auf dem Track damit...

Marketing factory laptimes are fake. This is reality. Tires are Mercedes Benz specific. Car is factory standard, no tune, not stripped interior...
Mercedes is really up to their games now..they are no more grannys and grandpas car..they can really compete with high end sports car brands nowadays.. good job Benz!

@@rene21071987 Klar ist es geschmackssache. Aber ich denke es ist auch eine Zeitfrage. Sitzt man kurz drin oder länger etc. Fands z.b. in der neuen E Klasse auch scheiße, dann hatten wir eine für längere Zeit und fands ganz gut, dann hab ich eine selbst konfigurierte gehabt und fand den innenraum perfekt, sodass ich nochmal eine e klasse genommen hatte.. Ist echt auch gewohnheitssache

Ich bin eigentlich echter mercdes Fan, ich hatte das Auto letzte Woche zum Probefahren da ich mir eigentlich den CLA 45S ab Oktober leasen wollte, aber nach dem Wochenende hab ich mir das nochmal überlegt. Vorneweg das Auto macht richtig Laune aber das nervigste und das hört man in diesem Video auch schon ist dieser grotten schlechte Lautsprecher Sound man hat nach außen kaum ein Geräusch alles was man hier hört ist künstlich es kommt zu 98% aus den Lautsprechern was man gerade in Sport+ sehr stark merkt. Ich fahre momentan nen CLA 250 mit umgebauter AGA und der liefert mehr Emotion als der AMG was echt traurig ist
Wenn du "Emotionen" haben möchtest würde ich mal die Autos aus einem anderen Jahrzehnt kaufen.
Love the Sport Auto Supertest! It really is the ultimate test. Mercedes did an excellent job with that baby AMG but the Corsa R tires definitely played a part in that record time! I would love to see the new Corvette C8 AND the new Cayman 4.0 GTS performing the Supertest! Thanks👍🏻👍🏻
The Truth They said that already, it was 0.8 sec. Those semi-slick tires can gain up to 1.5 sec in a 4 km track over a very good tire like the Michelin PS4. Considering the Nordschleife is roughly 20 km. We’re talking up to 7.5 sec total. That’s something. But I note that in every car using those tires or the Cup 2’s , like the Cayman GT4. But make no mistake, I love the new A45 S AMG. It’s only a fair comment!
Guys, comparing a test done by a professional driver and organized by a brand and another that is done by an Auto magazine is not really fair ... + there is a new official course on the Nürburgring since this year, ( before the test from Renault) with a complete lap which makes now 20.832 km (start and end of the lap on the start / finish line, start of T13). On this route, the time of the Megane is 7 minutes 45 seconds 389. They only gave the 7:40 to brag they have beaten the Civic. Finally, we are talking about a car stripped to the extreme which must be unlivable on a daily basis. Lastly, i'm pretty sure to pick a cute woman in the Merc , the other is just a Renault :D
This is cheating, trofeo R is about 1second faster than Cup2 per minute and 2 seconds faster than high performance summer tires per minute, so if A45S equipped with factory sport tires it would be around 15 seconds slower, which would be 8:03(minus the time loss caused by gearbox issue)

German Big Yeah I know, I am just saying if A45S uses similar tyre that everyone else uses, then it would be a slow car, you do get better lap-times with Trofeo R but these tyres are terrible in cold and wet conditions, also comfort, NVH and tread wear is bad. if the A45S can do the same lap time with P0 Corsa or PS4S then it’s really the king of the hatch backs, but claim the crown by fitting some tyres that are not really livable for everyday driving? What’s the point

The Megane Trophy R is 8 seconds quicker with 120bhp less. So the standard Trophy should be still as quick if not quicker still 🤔

@@onehorsepower He speaks about the standard "RS Trophy" which makes 300 hp like the "RS Trophy-R" but with different setup and 130 kg more weight, and not the RS 280. And yes the regular Mégane 4 RS Trophy is easily sub 8.00 on Nordschleife, maybe somewhere around 7:45/7:50 while Trophy R is 7:40.
It is just minimaly slower than the Trophy-R but way cheaper. A colleague of mine bought it new at Renault Frankfurt for 35K.
This Mercedes has a lot more HP, but the chassis is not on the level of the Mégane and the Civic.

This Mercedes tested by Sport Auto is on semi-slicks (Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R) while the Mégane tested by Sport Auto is on Sport Summer tires (Bridgestone Potenza S007 RS). This makes a huge difference. Now put the R.S. Trophy-R with semi slicks and you will see the difference though the Mégane has a lot less HP.

2. It's better to compare factory lap times to factory lap times cuz every manufatcurer will put the best lap their car can do vs magazine lap time that may not always be in perfect conditions
The Alfa laptime was set by the manufacturer with a professional driver, unknown settings and not by a neutral sportscars journalist. The only neutral comparison was on the Sachsenring where the A45S was quicker than the QV by 2 sec. Apart from the fact that this two cars aren‘t rivals in the same category.
my comment simply wanted to refer to the title that highlighted the time to make clickbait title. The second part of the comment wanted to express how a 75,000-dollar Italian car with the value of a ferrari engine can do better and how a car with a best value for money ratio like the renault can destroy a car that also costs 25,000 dollars more .. the renault I think it costs about 55,000 euros.

Why? The driver also lost at least a couple of seconds when the gearbox has gone N for high temperature.
Check the realistic laptime of the other cars. They are 10 seconds slower.
