My kids and I went to the beach in Santa Cruz California today. There were (minimum ) 200,000 of these beautiful creatures dead all over! I've never seen this in my life. And there were a lot of dead birds too. Very strange!
@@nicolemaxwell6354 Things like this are happening all over the world. The 2 preachers YT channel shows this. We're living in the last days. The seas are being churned up so to speak.
Beautiful and graceful little creatures. Velella velella are rarely highlighted; one can find 100s of videos or writings about colonial organisms like the Portuguese man o war and quite a bit about siphonophores etc. Nice to find an upload like this :)
A few years ago I was sardine seining off the coast of Oregon and there were millions of these floating around. I'd say billions bit I feel that would be an exaggeration. But there was a lot of them. Great fishing too. It was the year of the El Nino. So many of them were washed up on the shore too. I've never seen anything like that. There were also these floating pink things also. They looks like women's "pleasure" toys. Sorry can't think of a different way of describing it haha. But it had these spikes on them but they were really soft like jelly. Crazy stuff out there.
These were all over our beech once a couple years ago. I collected a couple from the beech, at Lincoln City,OR. They dried, but now I've only kept the picture I took. I hunted online to find out what it was. Like little sail boats!
They're beautiful.
They're currently washing ashore in Southern California beaches right now. All dried up now. We only found one "baby" one still alive.

Such a cool little collection of living things. And I love the name too!
Almost everything you showcase is not only unique but very often, something I never even knew existed. Marine biology is fascinating☺️
I see alot of them on the shore in Northern California

Interesting I want more videos about these.
Nicely done video. Maybe explain some of the more obscure terms. Thanks!
May i ask you ask a question, where did you get the music?
It's called "Waterfall" from the RUclips audio library.
@@DeepMarineScenes okay i found it. Thanks for the info
I couldn't find any band using Gonozoids as their name. It's available if you're interested!
I saw a bunch of these washed up on the shore today and I thought it was a bunch of plastic at first with them being all dried up and see through.
