  • Hi everyone. Today's video is a book review of The Failures by Benjamin Liar. This is the first book in The Wanderlands trilogy, and Christopher Ruocchio and Tad Williams were right about this book. It's awesome. This review will be spoiler-free, and the book will be released on July 2, 2024. Let me know whether you have The Failures on your radar or not! :)

    I absolutely love this book and it is funny because the Deader is perhaps actually my favorite character. He is such a beautifully tragic portrayal of menticide … I imagine any severe trauma survivor will find it as gut wrenching as I did. But it is far from all dark, gritty pain… the storylines are balanced with youth and humor and profound wisdom…. I just love it!!! I hope to see it all played out on a silver screen someday though I doubt it will ever live up to the book bc it is pure magic… or should I say twistcraft…

      This is the first time I heard the word menticide. Thanks for increasing my vocabulary! Yeah, I feel like The Deader's story would work much better on the second read than the first time. On my first read, I was so much more interested in the other POV characters' storylines. I felt they were much more connected than The Deader to the others.

      @@PetrikLeo that makes sense. It's funny, I found Gun and Jackie less interesting at first read and then they grew on me, reminding me a bit of how I felt the first time I watched fantastic planet, where the blue 'aliens' are the 'monsters' to those in their world that are much smaller, but they don't see themselves as such. Very interesting stuff to think about :)

    I'm so glad that you liked this book I received the ARC like a month ago, after reading the premise I was so damn interested I went right into reading it and it is genre bending I enjoyed the hell out of this book and I'm glad that you did too,I'm reading Until the Last by Mike Shackle and Daughter of Redwinter by Ed McDonald keep up these Kick-Ass reviews only thing that sucks is the pre-order price at $16.99 glad I received the ARC

      Yeah! The world-building is absolutely incredible. Glad you've read and enjoyed it. I had such a great time reading the perspective of the Convox, Monsters, and The Lost Boys. Until the Last is great. I haven't read Daughter of Redwinter, though! Enjoy! And yeah, you're right. The Kindle price for this book is so damn expensive. :/

    Would you say the ending of the book is satisfying? I’d love to read it but only if the ending by itself is satisfying enough that sequels are ‘nice to have’ but not required to feel satisfaction from this book.

    This looks really interesting. Is it bad of me to not read unfinished series? These books look good but so did GoT and Kingkiller but they hurt me to much to read any other unfinished series. I know it's kind of unfair. It's like being bit by a pitbull, not all pitbulls are bad but I have such bad experiences it ruins them forever. I don't want to get emotionally involved in a series that won't bring me a conclusion if the author turns out to be a liar, sellout, or just decided not to finish a series. The only time ive broken this rule is Ryan Cahill because hes such a genuine person. But i havent actually read his works just purchaed them. Once last book gets announced then ill binge. Cheers!! Happy Easter to you

    • @PetrikLeo
      @PetrikLeo  5 месяцев назад

      Happy Easter to you, too! It's up to you to choose which books to read. Unfinished or finished or not. I think we are flooded with so many series now. It's quite understandable to read only the finished one. I personally don't mind reading finished or unfinished series. Statistically, most authors managed to complete their series. It is unfortunate that Rothfuss and GRRM sour this kind of perception due to their immense popularity and well-loved books, but yeah, I do think I benefit more from juggling completed and ongoing series. :D
