edit: I cited the wrong beta version previously, and have corrected that. Luke: Suggestion. Minecraft Beta 1.3_01 with the seed 404. You'll spawn near a gravel field, break it and it opens into a near-vertical tunnel into a huge cave system... the old 404 challenge. You get a day to gather up supplies on the surface, then go! Err, for the record I suggest collecting resources *before* breaking the gravel field
I miss the original 1.7 Those were the day, slapped hamachie on the school science lab computers and ran USB Minecraft server across four years of school. We had basically one world, and nobody ruined it ever. Truly incredible.
Fun Fact: Beta 1.9 was the first version of minecraft to feature hard-core mode. Beta 1.8 and past versions didn't have hard-core, although even OLDER versions technically had hard-core by default, as if you died you couldn't respawn. (Although you could just... load an older save) and actual respawning wasnt added until infdev. Edit 1: Beta 1.9 was renamed to 1.0 in development. So any pre release builds of Beta 1.9 are actually pre release builds of 1.0.
I’ve said this before in another video, but you should really try a 100 days underground, the only rule is that you must stay under the ground and cannot collect any materials from the surface. 1.18 makes it possible to survive sustainably with nothing but what you find underground. It’s pretty difficult but I’d love to see you try it. Edit for some clarification: I see some people are confused as to how this is possible, but the secret to success is rather simple; lush caves. If you can find a lush cave, you not only have food sources, both immediately from glow berries and in the long term from grass seeds, but you also have azalia bushes, which when bone mealed gives you a full grown tree. Bone meal can be hard to come by at first, but again lush caves come to save the day because they can spawn tropical fish, which can drop bone meal upon death. You now have a sustainable supply of food and wood, all without gathering anything on the surface. As for not spawning undergound, that's fine, in my head you would have until sunset to find a cave suitable enough to survive in. Though caves aren't exactly endless, 1.18 does make very large cave systems possible, and even if your starter cave isn't that big you could always mine away to find a larger cave system. Edit 2: Looks like I got my wish!
Hearing Luke claim he maxed out his enchanting room in 1.0 makes my soul hurt. Luke, you need _thirty_ bookshelves to get max level enchants in 1.0. And those max enchants cost _fifty_ levels.
@@pimplehair You can get Sharpness V on any sword, not just on a gold one like in the 15 bookshelf/30 level setup, and with a little luck (and I do mean only a little), you can get a Sharpness V Diamond Sword with every other compatible enchant on it in one go with max levels in all of them. Also, you can get perfect tools and perfect armor for the time, even on Diamond.
As a guy that spent his time creating farms, the cave spiders has a hitbox of half a block, so the way to farm them is a block with a trapdoor and putting slabs on the block where the spiders are going to stand.

People really do under appreciate how far Minecraft has gotten. Luke, one reason you're getting subpar enchantments is because in that version of minecraft the Level Max for enchantments was 50 not 30, so you are basically getting mid-tier enchantments
13:00 50 level enchantments were the highest level at the time, that was probably pretty average for a level 30 back then. Level 30 didn't become the max until 1.9 I think. Its so strange having this be called old Minecraft when I remember this when it was new Minecraft. Well, actually, it would probably be an entirely new experience for new players to go back to. But honestly I think it wouldn't do as much for newer players because the nostalgia factor would not be there.
I love how the old version of Minecraft is mining and crafting. I think new trades with villager, despite being useful, take away some of the essence of the game
damn i must be old, cause this stuff in this version still feels kinda new. Gotta go back to the old old days of 1.7.3 last update before the adventure update
Gotta say, as much as this was a distinctly different “100 days” spin-off, it’s actually quite cool to see how little the game has fundamentally changed. Like, most of the time, unless you really really looked closely, you’d barely notice that this is being played on decade-old version of the current game. Shows how delicately and successfully Mojang have adapted and developed the game. Despite all these years, it’s not lost it’s charm; something that can’t be said for the majority of games in the same space. Minecraft is truly a timeless masterpiece.
it's incredibly crazy to see how far minecraft's come. I remember playing minecraft on mobile when it was still Minecraft PE, and then on the xbox 360, and then finally on PC, starting freshly on 1.9 with the combat update; I remember tuning into a ton of streams of people playing with the new combat features and how hype it all was only days after making my account with my little minecraft card from Walmart. Now we're closing in on 1.18! Time flies super fast, truly. I know this isn't as nostalgic for me, but it's so crazy still. I remember watching people play these versions nevertheless.
Good god I saw him chopping a wooden slab with an axe and got slammed immediately with war flashbacks of when you had to mine wooden slabs with pickaxes in minecraft
Most minecraft youtubers: i wasn't recording on day 14, but hey look i just so happened to find 3 stacks of diamonds! Luke: i wasn't recording on day 14, so now this is day 14. A true legend
I’ll always remember my freshman year of high school, my best friend showing me this game at his house. Then, I had to beg my parents for about a month to get the game. Was so happy when I finally did lol. Hard to believe that was 12 years ago now almost.
easily one of the best purchases ever made imo thousands of hours of constant enjoyment for, what, 27 usd? there aren't many games that can say the same
Spiders can’t climb soul sand walls and diagonal fence posts do a good job of collecting spiders. The spider farm in Etho’s man cave is the only modern version of that collection system I can think of.
Fun fact: It's because the wooden slabs, to save space, were added as a "sub-id" to stone slabs, where they could change the texture, but not the tool used to break it.
You should do 200 days on version 1.2 then 300 days on 1.3 then 400 days on 1.4 etc etc. It would be interesting to see the difference throughout all the versions.
Luke, I just want to say.. you unlocked memories that I forgot I ever had. Growing up I didn’t have much of anything really. No WiFi, Xbox360 Minecraft with my little brothers, it was a great time back then… Thanks Luke.
I was always a mobile player so my early Minecraft experience was different still this was pretty nostalgic, like we had the stonecutter a long time ago but it back then it was made from four pieces of cobblestone and was the only way to build stone stairs, walls, etc. also since mobile devices couldn’t handle the nether back then, we had something called a nether reactor core which was made out of gold, iron and diamond. You would set up a shrine made out of cobblestone and four gold blocks and once activated, the shrine would turn into obsidian (the reactor core wouldn’t change and we would mine the gold blocks before they turned so we could reuse them) and a large netherrack structure would spawn items that couldn’t be obtained otherwise, such as pumpkin/melon seeds, glow stone, quartz, along with a few zombie pigmen. The reactor core was really cool and I wish they would add it back in.
remember when redstone didnt do shit? Like it was just decorative? God i remember how much i squealed the day i flicked a lever and for the first time it actually worked
SAME i always get so excited when i see mossy cobblestone up until about a week ago where my younger cousin said “why’re you so excited? you can just craft it”… oops. guess i missed that one in the update overview
I feel ya I mean I knew you could craft it but I always get excited when I get to a mega taigas cause of the giant mossy cobble deposits makes no freaking sense but it does somehow
The enchanting level goes up to 50 in this version, I believe. I also believe that you need a carrot on a stick in order to control the pigs while you're riding them.
you should continue this series, after every 100 days go up a version, also the way to do this is to go very far away from your spawn then load in the new version so your spawn chunks dont reset either
Although there has been thousands of changes to the game, fundamentally it is still the game we know and love! It’s also crazy how nostalgic this is at the same time.
Man, back in 1.8 we thought "this is the best, this cant get better" Remember when 1.9 was controversial? Remember when we didnt have better villagers?
as someone who started playing back in the Alpha days, just as cakes were being released, it really makes me feel old thinking that 1.0 is considered "old"
I remember doing the sniper duel back in ye Olde days. You essentially have to put the skeleton on the edge of your render distance for them, then shoot and kill them.
An idea for a few 100 days spinoffs: 420 Days in Hardcore Minecraft: A second version of 69 days. 100 Days in Hardcore Minecraft Updated: What you would do if you were starting your 100 days series, on the same seed with your current knowledge. 100 Days in Minecraft Bedrock on Xbox 1: A fun version of Minecraft P.E. but on Xbox 1. 100 Days in Hardcore Minecraft with Mods: Download all the mods you can find and use it in a video. 100 Days in other Hardcore 100 Days in Minecraft: Basically go to other people's 100 days and tour 100 worlds. 100 Days in Minecraft with my Subscribers: Make a world with 100 of your fans to play together and see how many players will last.
mining tip: place all your toches on the right wall whenever you go down a mine or explore a mineshaft, good way to never get lost and i don't see that many people doing it ! also: 100days skyblock would be so cool to watch !!!
100 days adventure mode. I'd like too see ya at least try luke. Your the master of 100 days you can do it. Also you've been a big part of my childhood and your videos are amazing thanks for all the good times and laughs
Everything about this is just so nostalgic… its insane… the blocking, the sounds of killing skeletons, the behavior of monsters, the combat, the landscape of where the village was; with the mountains in the background, the color pallet of the game… oh man… its really kicking me hard

I just assumed that any video about 'old' minecraft would be on an alpha or even beta version of the game 😅 for some reason I still think of any version after beta 1.8 as 'new' because of how much changed in that update.

I guess a lot of the veterans are forgetting certain things about old Minecraft. :/
Those were the good ol days in pocket edition 0.8
bro you got lucky
