Just look at the war crimes the Russians committed against the Poles. The hatred still remains to this day. The same with the Germans. But the Russians have not changed at all. Look no further than Ukraine to see it. I couldn´t care less about individual soldiers. War is a numbers game and it is the combined effort of many and not the individual story that makes a difference (except maybe for generals). The fighter pilot aces of past world wars didn´t change the outcome of grand scale operations, and neither did individual ship captains or their crew. Elevating individual service people to prominence is just a cheap media game to increase morale.
