You can take the warrior out of the war, but you can't take the war out of the warrior. ✌
I've never stopped fighting. The targets and tactics change, but I'll always grind.
I've never actually realized the message can be interpreted different pending on your age? Young man, in 40 years give this a re-listen
Drove through S. Dakota playing this album, the struggle of the natives battling an invading foe they would and could not beat was all I could relate to this track...there isn't much left in S. Dakota, it's pretty empty now, alas
I'm 47 now, and this song wouldn't have hit me nearly as hard in my 20s. To be invincible, just one more time would be worth remembering. Those of us who were once that way never even contemplated the feeling of losing it. Rage against the dying of the light, bring it. Learch into that frey just one more time, and take all you can in with you, and leave it all out while you're there. You never know when it's the last time you will be afforded the chance.
Who else loves tunes that are decades old and still don't know the lyrics?? 😂😂
they're the last thing I care about, I love music for the instrumentation mainly. If I want poetry I'll read poetry
I think I'm more that way because I'm a musician, I listen to all the instruments separately, those I can play first, then any remaining. The lyrics are usually my last concern, except for for music that's obviously driven by lyrics like some folk, country, etc. . Someone will tell me how much they love a song that I love, and explain what it means to them, lyrically, I'll say I don't know the words, they look like I just grew horns and a tail. @@deminybs
The interplay between Adam and Justin live is stunning during this song.
exactly !!
I’m 60, this a song for all us old guys……..
TOOL Army forever❤🌀
You are a total full on Tool fan now! I love it!
And they really DO just do whatever the hell they want. Fortunately for all of us, they're real good at it 😆
The guitar fan in you is going to love 7empest. And please check out Right in Two and parabol/parabola.
I love how the acoustic riffs that define the beginning of the song are in an amazing electric tone at the end. I never hear reactors mention that.
One of my faves. I got to see them perform this in concert. Twas amazing.
Love the message with this song. And the drums pick up the struggle so well.
This song is polar in brain cancer circles. Great fight song! Fuck cancer!
The old warrior has finally come the end of the line. Still trying to fight and win, but he isn't strong enough (heavy shield down) or in perfect shape (belly in, suck in that gut). He gets a mortal wound (where I end) but has thought of his victories and even things that were not acceptable (atrocities? Caligula would grin- that Roman emperor was known for his cruelty and blood thirstiness). Ponce de Leon famously searched for the Fountain of Youth- imagine what his soldiers felt about never finding it. Sometimes in a group the warriors (soldiers, cops, gang members, any who fight and stick together) will brag about their accomplishments, even the brutal stuff.
Ponce may have found it, if the song is about adrenochrome. The Fountain of Youth could be a reference to the tears of children.
Descending next, my fave Tool song off this album!!
Maynard singing about Maynard, plain and simple, it's brilliant!
FI is my favorite album.. it helped me a lot !!
thanks for the reaction 🌀
It's ok I guess
You are getting it bro!!! The instruments in this band all each have a voice that speak and are saying something.
Wait until you hit your late '40s and '50s. This song will take on a whole new tone
Age 36 for me is all it took…. You know those ppl who burn the candle at both ends because they aren’t cut out for living past 23… yeah I’m the guy that’s even less responsible but I’m still here 😂😂😂 drugs are bad children takes decades off your life if done properly
I like how you say "it's never too late." So true. I dont care if you are 80 years old, it is never too late.
Every few years I'll think I'm getting too old to start over, until the next rut, I realize if I'd just kept moving I had plenty of time, finally realizing I wasn't starting over, I was just living. I hope younger people understand sooner than I did, not to live like it's the last chapter of your life throughout your entire existence. It'll come soon enough.
I love my live music, I’ve seen a lot of gigs in 20 years. And when I saw tool, it was the closest experience I ever came at a concert being high, without actually ingesting any drugs. Was hypnotic.
"Caligula would grin" one of my favorite lines. Granted, I had no idea who the f that was until I looked it up, lol, but it was cool to learn something new.
At least you looked it up, a lot of folks would probably just sit there wondering for some ridiculous reason
When you asked “what sound is that” about half way through…it’s their bass player Justin Chancellor in God Mode.
You can now totally head bob to TOOL! ✌
A mentro?!!! Fuckin A kid I think you came up with a good one.❤
guitar with distortsion petals and drums lol cheers
“Weapon out belly in”, think more of a sword fight
Ready for battle! 🤘
Hand to hand and sword fighting
🌀❤️
I feel the same way lol I hear a new riff and it just drives you insane to try to play it lol kinda like when I seen the matrix for the first time in 99 I tried running up walls haha 💯
I can't believe you've discovered Sleep Token and Tool. My two favorite bands. I envy your journey. I wish I could hear their songs for the first time again.
I love this song so fucking much. Me and my husband have seen the FI tour 7 times and it's fucking immaculate! This song is another masterpiece; it makes me sob!
Another cool thing about Tool, especially this album, the band compose and record the music, Maynard had nothing to do with the musical compositions, once they were done (after years on this album) they gave the demos to Maynard and he sat and came up with the lyrics and vocal delivery, they have little say in his process, maybe a few tweaks as far as lyrical cadence, so as they write the music they have no idea what lyrics and concepts Maynard will come up with, they don't collaborate in that regard...yet they end up with masterpieces of music. Part of the reason Maynard is given so much accolade, he could technically f*** up the entire track w/some dumb ass lyrics but they have 100% trust in his talent and abilities and he always delivers.
"Weapon out belly in" Is a reference to being young, belly still flat and strong, and being a warrior during your youth, as opposed to being older and our bellies are no longer "in." The song is about how we once felt/believed we were Invincible, in our youth. As I understand it.
I especially Subscribed to have you view Tool - FLOOD....Thank You forward💯% mind-blowing.
tools music is smarter than 99% of the bands out there. Brilliant.
Right into
I love seeing Fear Inoculum get so much love:) Great reaction!
Bro your sub number says 25.6K now, start the very beginning of TOOL, and go all the way through Fear Incoculum without any other music in a row, and I bet your numbers will climb like hell within a week-month. Everyone loves TOOL for the most part and to have the entire discography in reaction would be legendary. Please do it!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone else with me on this?? The evolution of the band, writing lyrics, guitar riffs, and the drums growing is crazy. I’d love to see this!, people are you with me?
Not to mention the switch from Paul D’Amor to Justin Chancellor. Tool is the definition of a progressive rock band. Every live performance and studio album I’d just different and on another level
Guitar bass and drums
🔥
It would be interesting to hear you talk about your thoughts about the lyrics in more detail
What up bro I was wondering if you've heard of the metal band Rage Against The Machine they released their first album in 1992 if not you should do a reaction two there song Bulls On Parade.
Yes
Music is a language so you aren’t wrong feeling like “they are talking”. Fundamental human connection.
Now check out Pneuma
keep going
Crazy thing about the bass, he's relying upon echo for every second note. He's only strumming each odd note.
🤘🏻🌀
Yo I haven’t been here in a while, I know I might be getting annoying, but did you ever react to “Anxiety” by sleepy hallow? No pressure but you did say you would. But if you don’t want to that’s fine. Enjoy the rest of your day/night!
