    • @brianeleighton
      @brianeleighton 3 года назад +1

      @@Garrett1240 I guess you never boo a player from the team you cheer for when they screw up, right? That was not some little mistake. He literally cost the team he cheered for an out. If you are going to sit where he did, you need to think like you are part of the game...since you are close enough that the game can come to you. You do not fight your own team's player for a foul ball, that is common sense as a fan. You get the hell out of his way and hope he catches it while protecting your head in case he doesn't. If it is a visiting player doing that? You do EXACTLY what this guy did, screw up the player's catch to give your team another out.

    • @Garrett1240
      @Garrett1240 3 года назад +2

      Brian Leighton Uh, no, I don’t boo players from teams I support. That’s very rare across sports and a lousy thing to do. I understand that fans sitting along the field have a responsibility to not interfere with the game like you said, but this is a mistake that happens frequently, usually to the embarrassment and regret of the fan who committed the interference. Other times the fans are casuals and don’t know the rules properly. It’s possible to be critical of a fan’s ignorance towards the rules while still being understanding of a mistake they either didn’t know they were committing or incorrectly thought they were within the rules. To publicly ridicule a fan paying money to support their team after such an incident as the one above is low and childish. Shows an arrogance and lack of perspective to do what Votto did. Still, good on him for being a man and apologizing. They both made mistakes but that doesn’t mean it can’t be forgiven and carry on like usual. By choosing to not take ownership of your faults, no matter how trivial, you incidentally make it a bigger deal than it truly is or has to be. If you rewatch the video it’s pretty clear to me that what the fan did wasn’t that bad and certainly not egregious. I mean, there’s plenty of better examples of fans going out of their way to catch a ball. The guy above was hardly attempting to ‘go get’ the ball like say the infamous case at Wrigley Field many years ago. It’s further complicated by the fact that Votto is stretching into the stands to make the catch and even comes into contact with the guy, leaving him in a lose-lose situation if Votto doesn’t catch it.

    • @brianeleighton
      @brianeleighton 3 года назад +1

      @@Garrett1240 The Wrigley case was EXACTLY like this. The Cubs player jumped and reached into the stands. If Bartman had gone for the ball, it would have been fan interference. As it was, he knocked the ball out of his glove inside the stands. Which is why it became a deal...because that hitter went on to start the rally that screwed the Cubs. Votto didn't even make that big of a thing about it. He was just pointing out that the fan was even wearing a Reds shirt when screwing the team over. It's not like he reacted the way Alou did to Bartman. It was Alou's reaction that caused the entire stadium at Wrigley to boo Bartman and throw beer, pizza and other concessions on him. They had to sneak Bartman out of Wrigleyville like he was in Witness Protection for his own safety.

    Cincy fan didn't interfere, he merely stood up from his seat. If that's interference then its MLB's fault, not the fans.

      He did not interfere by rule. In fact, if it was the first baseman of the opposing team trying to make that play, the fan would be 100% doing the right thing. As it is, as a home team fan you are supposed to do everything in your power to get out of your player's way to allow him to make the play. Not to try to fight him to make the catch. Imagine how that fan would feel if on the very next pitch the batter hit a homerun. He literally cost the team he cheers for an out. If you are fortunate enough to get seats that good, you are part of the game in a way. As a home fan, you should do everything you can to help your team win, not screw them over. The worst case scenario was the Bartman incident at Wrigley during the playoffs. That poor man had to go into hiding he was hated so much by the entire city of Chicago.

    Idk if it's happening to you folks, but every baseball vid I watch has a crapload of state farm commercials. I will not be using state farm at all, also that's not the original Jake from state farm either just saying.

    If you don't like fans reaching out into the field of play interfering, stop getting angry when reaching into the stands and you interfere with the fans trying to catch a ball.

    These are normal things that you suppose to do anyways, in sports or otherwise. Right? No need for special brownie points for something you should be doing. LOL People are so afraid of saying “I’m sorry” or admitting they are in the wrong.

    Even though he apologized, what Votto did to that guy was total classless and wrong.

      I wish everyone would lay off the Astros. Teams have been stealing signs since there have been signs. They just weren't as good as other teams.

    I thought that votto thing had to do more to do with joey being upset with the reds at the time and that just sort of personified that

      As a Cardinals fan who's always "hated" the reds, I see nothing wrong with what Votto did. I hate that he felt he had to apologize. The fan took a moment away from the Reds and everyone who paid to see them to make it about himself. I don't think Votto could have handled it with more class, from a baseball perspective.

    Soooooo disrespectful to grab a fans shirt when he never put his hands in the way, just making sure he wouldn’t be hit if first baseman missed. That is something you could sue the player and team

      @Greg Carver not even close, but there is a personal boundary, grabbing like that is childish and a physical threat. MLB and those 20 year olds should stick to actully playing the game. i voted for President Trump, and will again and again. this is not a liberal type of sue, get real
