Fabulous find for me! You show exactly what I need to do to get a monitor and what plug I need. I'm hoping I can get this cord from Best Buy because I can then get this all set up TODAY. I just got my FT-710 two days ago and I'm in love - ha. I just got my General about a month ago and this is my first experience with HF. Thanks for the time to make this video. My 78-year-old chemo ravaged brain and eyes needed this - ha.
One of the reasons I bought this Radio was the Mouse and external display option. My eyesight on that 4 inch screen is not very good. The radio manual warns of using a cable that has two way data or audio as the radio maybe damaged by it. Which I believe would be an HDMI adapter. I bought the same cord as you on Amazon. I bought a 24 inch monitor and plugged it in the VGA input to the monitor and plugged the DVI to the radio. I then went to display settings and turned the external display option on and there it was! It is great seeing this on a big screen. The waterfall comes alive and I like using the mouse. Thanks and 73.....
@@RichRodgersOnline DVI is supposed to offer a better display than VGA but for this purpose it probably doesn't matter. I saw the monitor had the DVI connector and was wondering if it was a cost thing. I already have the DVI cable so I plan to use it when my FT 710 arrives. Thanks for the video. I'm eager to learn how to use this radio.

N1PHR, Thank you for watching my video!
Why they didn't use HDMI cable? It's smaller and all modern monitors are compatible
That was the only cable I had
Why didn't you use the DVI-D connector on the monitor.
I don't think I had a cable

I used the dvi because thats the connection it has, usually removes future issues by using something without an adapter.
So do they make a DVI to Hdmi or should we stick HDMI to vga?
Not sure... Good luck!!!
I wonder if the dvi to hdmi works
I don't know, you might try it.
