    Lyrics:
Mercy like a gun when you’ve come undone
I’ve awoken in the hour that receives no one
The sound of a tribe will shake me out until sunrise
The heat of tomorrow released as the wind blows
A beating stare from all the tribe
    No sleep tonight
    The howl from below
The wolf and the soaring crow
    Am I losing control?
Am I losing all of control?
    All spirits entrance
I toss and turn in no romance
From six under the grass the prison breaks like glass
Stripped of all the air in my lungs now
    Flee from the walls
    So alone
Stampede in the room like a buffalo
Raise me up in my throes
    The howl from below
The wolf and the soaring crow
    Am I losing control?
Am I losing all of control?
    All spirits entrance
I toss and turn in no romance
From six under the grass the prison breaks like glass
Upon the burial lie thieves of their past
    Firewater
    Tenacious
    Upon the burial ground
Between the living and the dead we move
Between the living and the dead we all move
Shift all placement, but they’re sifting you
Between the living and the dead we all move
    The claim we stake
    A land within our wake
    A Garden in the bones
A headdress down in the soil we own
We build it on the bullshit or build it upon the burial
    A Garden in the bones
A headdress down in the soil we own
Stripped of all the air in my lungs now
    Feeling so alone
Stampede in the room like buffalo
    Feeling so low
Pull out all the ground from below
    You’ve given quite a show
Stampede in the room like buffalo
Raise me up in my throes
    The howl from below
The wolf and the soaring crow
    Am I losing control?
Am I losing all of control?
    All spirits entrance
I toss and turn in no romance
From six under the grass the prison breaks like glass
Upon the burial lie thieves of their past
    Firewater
    Tenacious
    Upon the burial ground
Between the living and the dead we move
    Mercy like a gun

    • @jollyvoqar195
      @jollyvoqar195 5 лет назад +1

I feel the exact opposite. Blood Eagle is punishingly heavy, which is what I want from this band, and this song is mediocre (for them) and kinda weak. /shrug Solo is excellent and the vocals are there but the riffage and tempo are meh.

    • @Hangtime_Davi64
      @Hangtime_Davi64 5 лет назад +9

@@jollyvoqar195 That's fair. I tend to like more mellow songs anyway, so it makes sense that this one reaches me more. Blood Eagle, to me, just didnt seem as well constructed or unique as a lot of their previous heavier tracks. I've always like how much Periphery didnt really sound like anyone else, and Blood Eagle almost felt like it was just another metal song any band could have come out with. It's still a great song, just less exciting.

Man, it's something about these last singles (BE and GitB), but it seems like Periphery's sound has matured. Like, it was explosive in its infancy, started gaining focus, eventually reaching this. Unbelievable.
When other heavy bands started going completely soft for totally-not-monetary reasons, you guys stayed true to yourselves and your music (even though you guys had just as much reason to do the same).

    • @lollipophugo
      @lollipophugo 4 года назад

I knew it was tickling nostalgia from something. The synth piano thing around the 1:11 mark is not only a similar timbre to the stuff Stewart Copeland used but also emphasizes the root, 5th and minor 7th like a large majority of the spyro stuff, like it's the same intervals. Gives a mixolydian vibe.
Same with the intro guitar lead, and the riff under it. Flat 7th, major third. Whenever I hear or play a mixolydian sound it calls back to Spyro now. Such a good OST.

Spencer never sounded better, theres basically room for all of them, beautiful aching lyrics, 100% fitting misha-solo, unbelievable cymbal-sound... the composition is just mindblowingly good.

  • @mars_over
    @mars_over 4 года назад +2

There's something truly amazing happening in this song. I'm going to try to explain it.
A "regular" rock/metal song would go something like:
    riff-verse-bridge-chorus
    riff-verse-bridge-chorus
solo-bridge or part C (part C meaning not a verse or bridge but a new part that serves as a build-up to the climax of the song)
chorus-maybe repeat chorus with increased intesity-ending
That's a pretty common structure, but in this song they play the "part C" (3:32) and then instead of going full on to the chorus they play (@ 4:00) the same melody (in vocals) as the second verse (1:20) but with the intensity and intention of a chorus. Notice how now the guitars are playing constant 8th notes full on chords and Matt's not doing a polyrythm pattern but a simple 4/4 wide open beat. Also the way Spencer delivers this part is absolutely perfect (and I mean PERFECT): how he pronounces every word, dragging some of them and accentuating
others-everything is perfect. All of this gives this whole section a lot of air, awesomeness and a truly fist-in-the-air singing-your-lungs-out glory-feel This brings an unexpected and very clever climax into the song, only to continue with a great solo and then end with the classic full on bridge-chorus combo.
Sorry if I was not very clear, english is not my first language.
