COMEDY WITH BITE.
The BenZi Project is comedy sketch series aimed at making you laugh, then think, then cry uncontrollably in existential dread (in that order). The brainchild of Singaporean-based actors and writers Benjamin Kheng (of The Sam Willows) and Hirzi Zulkiflie (of MunahHirziOfficial), BenZi exists in the same world as mermaid frappuccinos and beer yoga, as the show no one asked for or deserves, but is going to get anyway.

this is true, I have a family friend who's now retired in his old age, when he was a boy his parents were killed by Japanese; he survived because some Malay family sheltered him and gave him a Malay name to blend in, he now has his Chinese name back. While it's fun having a laugh at this parody do also acknowledge this has happened.

@Jacky Phantom I'm not sure but I think Ming thought because he's peranakan, he doesn't count as a defector, but because the Japanese despised the Chinese they probably regarded all Chinese as 'defectors' (from where I'm not sure) and so they were treated as the lowest of the lows, most killed, no privilege or anything.
@Jacky Phantom it's just a joke because nowadays those influenced by American media is saying there's Chinese privilege in Singapore similar to white privilege in the US.

I'm a Peranakan from Indonesia but still found this quite amusing! It reminds me of the story of one Chinese Indonesian; Mochtar Riady (Lie Mo Tie 李文正).
In his hometown of Malang, East Java, there was an association for Hinghwa Chinese descendants called 福興會 (Fu Xing Hui), which sounds like 復興會 (Fu Xing Hui). The latter being a Japanese resistance group in China. So when the Japanese arrived in Malang and heard about this Hinghwa group, they mistakenly captured 60 of the association's members and imprisoned them (including Riady's father).

This is also common knowledge amongst older Chinese Indonesians that the Japanese treated them worse than Pribumi. @@zhaohan8581 Actually I'm Chinese Indonesian myself and speak three kinds of Chinese. So... no. It depends which province they're from, how old they are, how many resources they can access (wealth), and family lineage (peranakan vs totok). Indonesia is very regionally segregated, so it's almost impossible to generalise. Just compare the natives of Bali and Maluku for example and you will see both groups are vastly different (religion, culture, language, appearance) and you rarely see one in the other's territory. Likewise, Chinese Indonesians are different across the country/age levels/socioeconomic classes, etc.
