The comparison of Ancestral recall and pot of greed goes a tad deeper. With both being early cards made before anyone realized how over powering of an effect drawing cards was.
I'd push against that a bit. If you look at the rest of the "boon" cycle (bolt, salve, growth, and dark rit) they're all set at common in LEA, whereas recall is at rare, which is very unusual for a cycle, even in this set.
Yu Gi Oh came out 6 years after magic, which removed Ancestral Recall from all sets after Unlimited (in 1993), Yu Gi Oh came out in 1999, and pot of greed was banned in 2005 - 12 years after Ancestral Recall was removed from printings.
I'm not trying to say that they made a bad decision for waiting, but I'd suggest that there's a bit less correlation than you'd think. Yu Gi Oh probably kept the card for so long to appease the audience that watched the anime, since that ran from 2000-2004 - they MUST have known how busted it was but wanted to let players have a homage to the show
They actually knew it then. They pushed it to rare with the rest of the cycle at common for that reason.
They knew it was completely busted, but you have to understand it in the context of the time. They envisioned rares similarly to rare artifacts in D&D - sure, they're insanely powerful, but they never envisioned people being able to assemble them all in the same deck.
If one person in your kitchen table MTG group happens to have a single Mox or Ancestral in their pile of awful cards, it's really not going to make that big of a difference. It's only when you start optimizing and buying singles that the card becomes extremely problematic
Don't know about magic, but early Yu-Gi-Oh you couldn't do much with many cards in hand. Sure it was free, but extra summoning was really really limited so people didn't care too much.
Meanwhile Pokémon players simply look at the draw 7 card and don’t even blink lmao
"oh, can be a nice disruption. I think I'll still run Iono instead, I can draw up to 5 if necessary with my God of Pokémon"
Professor Oak was goated
@@theflintabletcused to be definitely. Now it's ok. Still playable but much better supporter cards
That’s cause it’s 2 turns (maybe of solitaire)
battle VIP pass was basically better pot of greed in the Mew deck if you grab double genisect.😂😂
To be fair, we don't make fun of Pot of Greed because of how good it is. We make fun of it becuase a lot of anime felt the need to explain what it does in the most dramatic way possible for years, even when other cards got shortened explanations after repeated viewings.
The difference would be; "I play Pot of Greed! This card allows me to draw two new cards from my deck and add them to my hand!" being shortened to "I'll use Pot of Greed to draw two cards."
back in the day it was said in the rules that you have to loudly and clearly explain what every card did to your opponent. It was a rule in the rule book
There is a card similar to Time Walk called Arcana Force The World, where it says Skip your opponents next turn. I play it in my Drytrons deck and yes, I can pseudo first turn kill lol.
I was about to say that lol
Also, mischief of the time goddess which skips your main 2 and your opponent’s entire turn and your next draw, standby and main 1 and goes straight to the battle phase of your next turn so you can attack with all your Valkyries *again*
Don't forget tellars
@@InfernoDragon1the problem with this card? It's locked to the Valkyrie archetypes, which isn't very good. Which makes a lot of sense for why its such a broken effect for such s bad deck. If that card was generic, it would be broken
How do you put it in Dayton. I need to know
Gitaxian Probe is *the* Yugioh card, need to show him that sometime
Honestly gitaxian probe is a card that player in mtg/yugioh/ptcg should all recognize as being really darn good, it is ban worthy in all 3 tcgs.
On another note it's baffling how many commander players I have interacted with that don't think the card is worth running even if I explain to them that the information has extra uses in their format as a bartering tool or to use for spreading misinformation to other players at the table by just lying about what they see.
@@sablesalt But then noone will ever trust you about information again.
@@MunchKING you can also do the opposite and dox their hand, all up to you
this is very fun.
and mtg cards can be very broken in yugioh. specifically probably the instants/sorceries more than anything else, probably.
Yeah, yu-gi-oh has escalation of it's creatures, so for high power mtg creatures the effect they have is at least feasible in yugioh
They have no resource restricting spells, which means that there's not really a good way to translate them without just making them free
@@Esper_Compleat there is a good way usually they just put heavy restrictions or convoluted methods to "cast" them.
I think Elvish Piper could be broken in Yugioh because all creatures have haste.
Chalice of the Void on 0
timetwister not being in a hard sleeve is very funny
It's in a toploader in this video :)
Aren't they proxies? They say card market or something on the back
Oh I didn’t quite see the top loader 😅
@@TheRealNiko sleeve
"take an extra turn nooo that's not in ygo" ... The World "am i a joke to you?"
And tellarknight ptolemaeus
kinda wild what people think yugioh cards are like.
Time twister isn't like a yugioh card, it's like a pokemon card. Yugioh cards aren't individually fast or powerful (usually) they more often require a specific deck to function, you don't just get a big draw 7 effect that really only happens in card games which have mana limitations.
So Timetwister is Literally Fibre Jar, and Timewalk is Arcana Force XXI- The World's head effect
Isnt timetwister just fiber jar?
I was waiting for someone to say this.
Not at all; the fact that it leaves the board intact matters a ton.
To clarify, you actually can take an extra turn, though its not on the spot, and by game rules youre actually just skipping your opponents turn entirely, but its understandable not to know about that cause the two decks that do it (drytron and tellars) are not really thar amazong, amd drytron generally has a better gameplan than skipping the opponents turn
So can six sams but the requirements is a bit much ontop of being a trap. Valkyries too technically but also skipping your own DP/SP/MP1 when doing it.
Arcana Force and Six Samurai also have a skip a turn, and Valkyries skip from one battle phase to their next.
@@delta3244 oh yeah, the drytron turnskip uses the arcana force for the literal turn skip, forgot that six sam ahs one too though, nice catch
There’s also that one cat that I forgot the name of which skips your opponents turn if they destroy(it’s used in ftks with yajiro invader )
Is this full video out? Yugioh guy seems super chill and gets it! So I’d watch the whole thing. (Checked channel but don’t see it- please put the clickable link through when ready!)
I think the Yu-Gi-Oh guy is Carl's counterpart on the Yu-Gi-Oh Card Market channel, being the one in charge of making new content...
There are cards in YuGiOh that skip your opponent's next turn btw.
They are just so insanely difficult to pull off that it would be easier to do a combo that actually says "You win the duel" at the end.
Draw 7 exists in yugioh, its just tied to ursarctic, which makes it a little gimmicky
a little?
@@rtwoxd1355he mean locked in one of the worst gimmick in a synchro (?) archetype
You are forgetting about Heart of the Underdog and Super Rejuvenation which, in the right deck, can draw you about infinite 😂
The catch being; Usarctic sucks.
Careful @@Machiroabledon't let the ursartic people hear you, they'll break your knees
Time twister is simpler to fiber jar but fiber jar resets the field too
Mischief of the time goddess is also decently similar to time walk due to the semi ease of use and turn skip
Time Twister is Localized Tornado but actually good
Ancestral Recall has a hidden mode in vintage where you can force your Doomsday opponent to draw when they have fewer than 3 cards left in their library.
I feel like there's definite similarity between morphing jar and timetwister function wise at least, and morphing jar was banned for years if I remember correctly
There is that one Valkyrie card that let's you skip to the battle phase of your next turn but that's more like an extra combat phase card in magic but it does technically have you go to the next turn.
And The Passing of Stars and Frost is also a double battle phase card.
That Pot of Greed magic card goes hard!
The first time I played a creature with vigilance and haste, it reminded me of yugioh.
Also, there IS a Yu-Gi-Oh! card that can give you a second turn, "Arcana Force XXI - The World", although, it is a coin flip and it is a level 8 Monster
It skips your opponents turn, a similar effect, but yugioh has no "take another turn" effects
World locking was so much fun, I mean for me and only the like 2 times I did it cause it's actually really boring
@@eugenideddis eh, fair, in practice they're the same thing (kinda), but for rules lawyering they are indeed 2 very different things
@@dylannoonan640 I KNOWWWWWWW, I didn't use it for the Lock, I used it for the OTK using Union Carrier and Vaylantz
@@Tiragron99 I ran it with dark ptera engine and my only win con was to attack with the world until they died which wasn't the best
"Wouldnt this be incredible in Yugioh?"
Fiber Jar be like
I think there’s a trap that does that too
I think it’s sone thing rainbow bridge once per duel
Time twister would suck as a yugioh card cause you make your opponent draw 7, they are most likely getting two hand traps off of that plus two combo starters
Absolutely not, you would just play it in an FTK deck or a crazy combo deck and go from two cards in hand to seven
@@erbinha_1234you ain't comboing anything bruh your opponent will negate your entire strategy with Ash Blossom or Infinite Impermiance
It could be used to initiate a top deck wad though if you dropped a droll
"draw seven banned on the spot!" Ursartic sitting there
The thing with ursartic is it draws a lot but often there's not a lot of value from those draws 😅
Yeah, but you're drawing Ursarctic cards so...
But you're minusing yourself by playing ursarctics so you may as well be drawing nothing
I believe you actually can just take a turn turn in yugioh lol.
Actually you can take an extra turn in yugioh. Mischief of the time goddess is a Valkyrie card that after your battle phase you cast it and it takes you to the NEXT turn’s start battle phase. It also can’t be responded to. Very cute.
Slotting into Trickstar and just insta-killing my opponent💀
Timetwister is great because I play cards that let me see my opponent’s hand, so I can ruin them by forcing a new hand, and also screw over a lot of graveyard decks. Now as for WHY I can play TT in my decks, proxies and rule zero.
On the flip side, I want someone to explain Lantern control to a YGO player.
I just find the thought of our Convulsion of Nature having PT results incredibly funny.
In fairness, while it wasn't discovered at the time, Library FTK is possibly the best goat format deck. Convulsion could've got results!
YuGiOh had its own version of a draw 7 (actually 5) though. It is called Morphing Jar and was banned for a large portion of the game's history.
I feel like pot of greed can come back strictly because almost all the newer pots have “drawbacks” that are actually easy to make beneficial, that being said I feel like og pot would immediately replace the other pots in a lot of decks and throw off their balance because the deck builders might not realize how much they balanced things for the other effects of whatever pot they were using.
I learned real fast that banished usually meant second graveyard for a lot of decks.
Fun fact!
Timetwister is the only card from the Power 9 NOT banned in Commander
There is actually 2 extra turn cards in yugioh
One requires you to win a coin flip (or use another card to force the result), and then you have to tribute 2 monsters for each extra turn.
the other is valkyries where valkyries have to survive the battle phase with only valkyries out, then they can skip to the next turn's battle phase.
I mean the first one is like if hand destruction and exchange of the spirit had a baby. Hand destruction did get banned at one point and exchange of the spirit got an errata 😅
There are actually a small handful of card effects that give you an extra turn in yugioh
“No you cannot”
The World:Do i mean nothing to you?
The interesting thing is, there is a skip turn card in YGO and it’s insanely unreliable.
Arcana Force - The World is a level 8 with no special summon condition that requires you to first win a coin toss when it’s summoned.
Then you may tribute 2 other monster cards and then you get to skip your opponents next turn.
That's not a Yu-Gi-Oh card, something like that would fold Yu-Gi-Oh in half. it's actually a Pokemon TCG card
Of course all these iconic spells in magic history would be busted in Yu-Gi-Oh, they're busted in magic with a resource system to balance the effects and are still the best available, applying it to Yu-Gi-Oh just doesn't really compute.
Actually you can take an extra turn. I used to do a melffy spright combo deck with "the world" and small world as an engine. I can send a decklist if anyone needs it, but it could lock someone out in a single turn. It was brutal and so fun because I cooould just win with the melffy sprights alone, but.. The world is just the icing that makes it insulting
I'm a magic player primarily and always hated archetypes, so I play yugioh very wrong. Like clearworld kaijus
I can see Veda Calarcanum and Tellarknight Ptolemaeus as Time Walks of Yu-Gi-Oh!
The most balance card we can have in having most draws is the Revived Sky.
Arcana Force XXI - Za Wurldo, Tellarknight Ptolemaeus, Mischief of the Time Goddess, and The Six Shinobi allow you to skip your opponent's turn.
Yes and no
In Yu-Gi-Oh, there is a card that says something like "skip your opponent's turn" for the idea, that you get another turn.
Yes, you can win with this insane card, but it's hard to do it and almost noone does it
Well, the problem with the card is: The archetype around it is just sooo damn bad, also it relies on coin flips, which never is a good thing
@@lucaillgen1248 they didn't knew if such card existed, I just simply informed 'em of such card. Didn't remember saying it was good or even worth trying
There are several such cards, and all of them are either part of bad archetypes, or so difficult to set up that their decks have better things to do with that effort.
The are a set of cards that let you skip your opponents turn in yugioh, also some that let you skip parts of your opponents turn
I mean, the world exists to make extra turns……
unfortunately arcana force archetype isn't too good in current meta. but imagine if that effect could be taken advantage of.
@@lastnamefirstname8655lol it’s never been and never will be ( unless gimmick puppet- like buff ?! ) in the meta, but playing the world and skipping people’s turn saying « Za Warudo » is waaaayyy too fun.
@@magicarpegayeminegue1963 very fun yes, no meta sad.
@@lastnamefirstname8655 the meta isn’t everything but yeah….
@@magicarpegayeminegue1963 fun matters to me more than meta. but meta is fun to me because strong is fun and meta is strong. but fun is more important. and even more important than that is cute and/or cool archetypes. they make game much more fun, even when links and rush duels are the newest things in yugioh.
time twister is a pokemon card called professors research printed almost every block.
Not a yugioh player. You totally can get another turn. Tellarknight Ptolemaeus, Arcana Force XXI and the Six Shinobi
Timetwister feels much more like a Pokemon card, dumping your hand to draw 7 is pretty famous as a common trainer card effect and unlike Yugioh where losing your graveyard is a pretty notable downside Pokemon TCG afaik doesn't really have any good discard pile uses besides pulling out cards and decking out is a legit threat outside of just decks built to deck out the opponent(or stall decks, Time Twister would be kinda nuts for stall decks as a potential +6 while recovering your deck destroying your opponents graveyard and setup hand and delaying for something like final countdown or maybe some on field effect.
This yugioh player has never heard of the card "ursarctic radiation" it allows you to draw up to 7 times per turn, but the archetype itself is horrible, thus the card is horrible
There are effects you can chain to skip opponents turn
"Can you do that in Yugioh?"
Yes! Mischief of the Time Goddess
And arcana force, the World
Technically, Mischief of the Time Godess lets you get an extra turn, kind of
Look up Exchange of the spirit, pre-errata it was banned for being too op.
Fiber jar also did this XD
All of that for 3 CMC is bananas to me. The again, I play Naya and Selesnya so I don't really have a frame of reference.
I believe there is a yugioh card that lets you get an extra turn. Its some six samurai card and requires you to jump tbrough insane hoops to do it, tho.
Draw power cards that are powerful enough to get banned in Magic... well, they'd probably come out with the "not usable in tournament play" text on them.
there is one yugioh card that lets you take a second turn and iat is not banned. arcana force XXI the world lets you toss a coin and on heads you get toplay another turn after your endphase
You can play Ancestral in Vintage Cube and Canadian Highlander
Yes you can take an extra turn, arcana force the world lets you essentially take infinite turns with the correct setup and a little luck
Timetwister is basically what Magic players think Yu-Gi-Oh cards are like.
Ftfy
Timetwister is basically a Yu-Gi-Oh card... yeah it us it was called fiber jar and it was awesome to use untill it was banned.
Wait until I play my 300/200 Kuriboh in MTG
And then there's me equipping Helm of the Host onto Rusko Clockmaker in Arena... Lol
Mischief of the time goddess is basically take another turn
There's 2 cards in Yu-Gi-Oh that give you an extra turn (technically), they just take way too many resources/set up to be playable.
There are cards in YuGiOh that skip your opponent's turn! They're very hard to use, though. One relies on a coinflip to get the effect off, and the other needs 7 other cards stapled onto it first!
There actually is at least one time warp effect in the game. "Arcana force XXI: the world" requires you to flip a coin when you summon it that determines which of its two effects are active, but if you get the right effect for it, it allows you to sack 2 of your monsters to skip your opponents next turn. Considering how easy it is to flood your field with monsters in modern YGO, that card will easily win you the game. Too bad arcana force cards... really fucking suck.
The Field Spell for Arcana Force nullifies the randomness factor. Activate the field and summon the world, and the game is over.
@@maxinesenior596 I mean yes, but even with the field spell, you need to win a coin toss for the effect to be active that turn.
You can play it in vintage
You actually can skip opponent's turn in Yu-Gi-Oh. The card is called Arcana Force XXI - The World
You can definitely skip opponents turns in yugioh. It's called "Arcana Force XXI - The World"
You can take an extra turn in yugioh by shipping the opponent turn...
Gonna be the stereotype. ERM ACTUALLY! There's at least one YuGiOh card that lets you take an extra turn, it's not really viable though.
Arcana Force XXI - The World lets you flip a coin at the end of your turn, and if you get the correct result, you can send 2 monsters you control to the graveyard to skip your opponent's next turn.
There are yugioh cards that let you take an extra turn, or effectively skip turns
Timetwister is basically Fiber Jar
What you mean you can't take an extra turn in yugioh 😭😭😭 last time I've played... well I actually didn't get to play... enemy used all the turns for itself 😭😭😭
Timetwister is basicly a Pokemon card.
Yu-Gi-Oh is super scared of adding draw effects. They prefer specific tutors and rarely go +1.
Pokémon loves draw and wheel effects though.
If this was a Yu-Gi-Oh it would have been banned about 10 years ago lol
Time twister reminds me of fibre jar
Why would they print Ancestral Recall if they don't want you to play with those cards?
They printed it over 30 years ago when TCGs weren't a think yet and they had no experience. They have learned since that that kind of card is too strong for card games 👍
(Arcana Force XXI - The world) can make your opponent skip there next turn in yugioh. So yes time walk exist in yugioh
Isn’t there a six samurai card that skips your opponent’s turn basically giving you a second one
Yes, but only if you control 6 different Samurais with 6 different attributes, if I remember correctly.
He said you can't take an extra turn in Yu-Gi-Oh!, Arcana Force The World and Ptolemaeus would like a word with you
Well yeah, but the combo required make sure the world is up consistently is as convoluted as any other FTK combo and just as unlikely. This is just draw a card and pay 2 mana.
What does Pot of Greed do?
Fiber jar would like a word.
At this point pot of greed is banned simply cause it’s not archetype locked there are far better draw power cards or cards that draw 2 with a clause that helps a deck more in certain decks
Thanks for the 2 extra cards
They helped me win
$12,000 to win the game? That REALLY sounds like YuGiOh
Me and my 50 dollar infinite turn Malcom deck
I mean theres a teller knight monster that turn skips
Yugioh - pot of greed - draw 2 cards BANNED
Magic - ancestral recall - draw 3 cards= BANNED
Pokemon = professor's research - draw 7 cards = 😂😂😂
Instead of 7 it would be 5 or 6
