This week I wanted to share how I've been using and enjoying this very brightly colored, polka dot, nylon, pop up, hamster playpen!
I have found playpen time with my hamsters a very important part of forming a bond with my hamsters. I creating this video for those of you looking for hamster playpen ideas, hamster playpen set up or just a hamster playpen review.
I use this playpen with my dwarf hamsters, Laverne and Shirley. If you have a Syrian hamster you may need to take more caution as they are generally better escape artists and you may need to keep a close eye on them.

If you are looking to add a hamster to your life, please consider rescuing one in need! Hamsters are often found at you local pet shelter or on PetFinder. You can also search for small animal rescues or hamster rescues in your area.
Or, you can volunteer with a local shelter or rescue to foster hamsters in need like I do. It's a rewarding experience and I'm learning so much about these sweet , little creatures.

Great tips! 👍🏽 I have a similar playpen, but I definitely need to add more tunnels and hide treats for them.
Thank you so much for the advice! I had a mesh play pen before and my hamster just spent the whole time trying to climb out. Nylon should work much better. You’ve also given me lots of fun ideas for stuff to put in the pen :)
Oh I’m so glad this helped!! Yes I started with that mesh walled playpen too.,. Haha didn’t last long!! I have lots more videos with my playpens in them - I find they do so much in helping me bond with my hamsters, they really seem to come out of their shells for me when I make sure they get out of cage time there engaging and feels safe to them. I hope you have the same result!
great video and thanks for showing some playpen ideas for setting it up .i prefer the look of the mesh pens but would prefer not to have an escaped hamster .lol .so polka dots it is as i am determined to buy a playpen for my hammys .i have made a mental note about covering the floor of the playpen to protect it .
Sigh, I know. Maybe we should design and sell our own playpen! Do you have another playpen you currently use?
I have this exact same playpen! Cheerio loves it but after 8 ish minutes she will usually start trying to run up the walls so that lets me know when she wants to go back in her enclosure! I used to have a mesh playpen but Cheerio escaped!
Hah! Sounds like it’s working well! And yes,.. I have that mesh enclosure too, my rookie mistake buying that. What kind of animal does that actually work for?
I think playpens with mesh would work for guinea pigs since they are not good climbers.
@@hibiscuspetal1026 ohh! That makes sense! I don’t know a lot about guinea pigs but I’ve been watching some YT and noticed their enclosures don’t usually have lids and low fences, I’m sure that’s helpful if you have them as pets to keep them out of trouble! If I live in a bigger space one day I’d love to get a pair.

Now I am considering getting one of these! I made a play pen out of cardboard for my hamster, but it doesn’t have a bottom. I like that this one has a bottom so that it can go on the carpet. Which size did you get? You may have mentioned it in the video, but there are multiple sizes on Amazon.
Funny! When I got it there was only one size option! Mine is about 4 feet across, I would go with the biggest size you can get.
I agree, this is nice to have containment but it still feels small. I can really see a difference when I make a huge cardboard wall playpen and set one of my gals in there to run around, they get so excited!
The excitement is definitely less when I put them in the playpen, but at least it’s something and an easy, quick set up and break down.
Yeah! There are two playpens on Amazon that look pretty similar but one comes in multiple sizes and the other doesn’t. You must have gotten a different one! I also saw I playpen that is just solid blue and does not have mesh sides!

I’m thinking of getting this one, what size did you get?
The one shown in this video is the small size (when I got it there was only one size available) I recently purchased the size large though and it’s great! It’s a much better size fit my dwarves. For my robos I had them using the smaller playpen to build up their confidence but recently let them give the big playpen a try and it seemed to go well! They seemed excited and interested in gathering the seeds I hid around the playpen, not scared/frantic. I think you just have to build skiddish hamsters (like robos, although all hamsters can be skiddish) up to feeling comfortable in the size large. And of course include lots of hides and activities :)
@@RachelGotHamsters thanks!! Just ordered a medium size. I adopted my first hamster on Friday and he’s a Russian dwarf. I didn’t know anything about hamsters but I made my research before and made him a bin cage and gave him a lot of paper bedding 🥰 then I saw your video and fell in love with this playpen!

My hamster has just chewed through the one we have -not good
Yes, if you watch some of my newer videos I now ALWAYS use a sheet or a fleece blanket as a liner (fleece blanket preferred) to keep them from chewing thru the bottom. Also the fleece helps keep pee from soaking thru to the floor :)
Howdy :) Can multiple hamsters share a playpen and enrichments (one at a time of course)?
hi! Yes, I always rotated my hamsters in the shared playpen (one at a time, like you said!) without issue. Of course there is always a risk of them catching something from one another, so I would make sure the hamsters you have are healthy and have been in your care for long enough (at least 2 weeks, but I usually wait a bit longer) that you know you're not unknowingly exposing them to something :)
