I really enjoyed this one a lot. These two video are a great representation of your rock journey. Old Amy would have fit in very well with the "imagined" classical audience at your journey's start, with a similar look on your face as they had at the end of the performance. And now you're almost to the point where I won't be surprised to see you in the modern rock concert audience.😉 I thought you would get the song name when you kept hearing the "thunder" beat. Once that word popped into your head I think the rest of the song name would have come. I loved their performances, not only amazing, but hilarious. So glad you got to see both videos. Great reaction! I loved it!
If you start hearing 2Cellos, now then is the prime time to start listening to Apocalyptica. They have been doing this kind of stuff since 1993. Their "Nothing else matters" rendition is out of this world.
Unfortunately, (from what I have heard) they appear to be very picky with enforcing the RUclips rules for people playing their music... so it is hard to get a review past the censors.
I always try to get people to watch that version of thunderstruck. I think it's fantastic. I really hope she checks it out even if she doesn't do a reaction. I hope it gets watched. It's really great
There's the Finnish group called Apocalyptica, with a core of 4 cellists. They were urged to record an album of Metallica covers in 1995. They gained a broader audience when their live performances were posted on RUclips.

They were on tour with Hawkwind when I saw them at Newcastle city hall in September 1978. Wow I had never seen or heard anything like them before. Their energy was unbelievable dancing all over the stage especially bass player Everton Williams, he must of covered every inch. Amazing drums and guitar, then front man George Csapo someone the music world especially you string players out there probably never heard of him. Great vocalists, keyboard player, and the cherry on top a great classically trained violinist. It's just a pity they split after only 2 studio and 1 live album, BETHNAL live at the BBC 1979. I love these guys SO MUCH, their energy and unbridled joy is truly infectious and the level of skill is marvellous to behold. Considering the likes of Bach, Mozart et al were basically the rock gods of their era I can't help but wonder what they themselves would have thought about something like this. Something tells me Mozart particularly would have (at least secretly) loved rock music, imagine what he would have done with electric amplification, effects pedals and other modern instrumentation?!
I was a classically trained cellist in my youth way back in the 70's and 80's. I was labelled as a prodigy but I hated practicing so never really went anywhere with it. But this is the stuff I liked to do, nobody wanted to hear this back then. My dream was to be a part of ELO, now I'm amazed how popular this has become.

It's cool that they play the sung parts on the cello as well as the instrumental parts. Cellos are remarkeble in imitating the human voice. It's one of my favourite instruments I love the sound of it.
Apocalyptica did it first :) Their story is pretty much what you said. They are classically trained cellists but they also love Metallica so they got together in their free time to play Metallica on 4 cellos. The audience liked it so much that they put out their debut album "Plays Metallica by Four Cellos" in 1996 and the rest is history.
I had the chance to see them in concert a couple of years ago in Perth (Australia), on their farewell tour (it was their 3rd last concert), an epic show, they played a few more AC/DC tunes as well as Thunderstruck, but they were playing in the home of Bonn Scott after all 😁
In keeping with the theme of this video, I would suggest you check out the Harp Twins. Specifically, I would point you toward their cover of "Fear of the Dark" by Iron Maiden. God bless!!
In the original version here, the little girl in the red dress, and the boy arguing with his dad, totally make the video! Their responses are just so genuine in comparison to the adults (who have obviously been told to look serious). I do wonder if in Beethoven and Mozart's day, if the audience may have had a very similar response. I love the way the audience involuntarily flinches when the first big loud chord hits.
My favourite character from Final Fantasy is FF7's world music. It starts as background, once you leave the first big story arc, and yoy'll hear it over and over as you walk around the world exploring and trying to unravel the web of confused memories, lies and mystery that is the character's history. Then, when you finally get the whole truth, it's scored to the music, and each phrase makes perfect sense and the crescendo comes at the tragic but surprising victory that everyone's talked around but nobody coupd exactly recall.
2 Cellos commissioned one of my favourite mashup producers (DJ Schmolli) to do a remix of their cover of Iron Maiden - The Trooper. 2 Cellos and Iron Maiden together. Awesome.
The first time I heard them do "thunderstruck" the cellists, in a classical music hall, playing classic instruments, they and audience were in 16th century clothing, responding to the unorthodox musicians in a manner of a 16th century audience would... shocked! ;-D Ah, you did see it (17:36). The "parents" response to their kids was hilarious. What would Mozart think? ;-) The audience knows where they are, that they came to listen to these two musicians play, they recognize the instruments, but their world is flipped over by the noise being manipulated from these two what they had thought was normal looking musicians instruments?
I thought it was so funny when you started talking about all the thunderstorms you've been having lately, blithely unaware what was in store for you. 😸 Keep rockin', Amy!
Saw them as curtain raisers for Elton John about 10 years ago. They were also part of the Elton John Band of the time, doing the string backings obviously. There are stacks of vids of the 2 Cellos, doings excellent versions of rock music. Smells Like Teen Spirit is one that comes to mind. Thanks Amy ✌
Haha, last video I thought to comment that 2 strings on your harp were broken but then I thought...certainly she'll notice at some point without me commenting! I enjoyed 2 cellos, I had not heard of them before but this stuff (classical musicians covering rock songs) happens regularly, it is a niche sector in music. One that immediately comes to mind is German violinist David Garrett (stage name) who, for 2 hours, in front of 20,000 people, plays Queen's "We Will Rock You" on a $ ??? Million Stradivari. I like his act as well. Amy, even in rock music there's the concept of "sell outs", artist who careme away from their original integrity to new ventures that make them more money and usually the cheap corporate intentions are clear. Before "Conte partio" made Andrea Bocelli famous, he had performed the European traditional cycles of Opera houses for 20 years doing traditional classical Opera performances, I would further contend that Conte partio is a song in the spirit of classical Opera, it is NOT rock music. Some of the stuff he did after that...well, are questionable but, it must be assumed, under a lot of contractual pressure from labels. André Rieu also has a bonafide back ground career in classical music but he (a fellow country man of mine) does seem like a sell out, I just fail to see a true commitment in spirit when he works the modern scenes and in his personal life he cheaply flaunts his wealth and seems overly excited with his status. That's just my take, but in general terms classical music lovers need to learn to not be so dismissive of musicians, artists who broaden their artistic horizons...that is what they are doing. Their is NO EVIDENSE that classical music is threatened by these niche endeavors. And Amy you still struggle with concept-ionizing that modern music is almost never an exercise in difficulty level, a recital, it is about moving emotions however simple it is to accomplish. Great video, I really enjoyed learning about 2 cellos. Thank you.
++ The 2nd video you watched ++ it reminds me of that scene in the famous time travel movie BACK TO THE FUTURE where Marty McFly played by Michael J. Fox plays guitar with the house band at the 1955 Prom. When he starts shredding some heavy fast 1985 Van Halen stuff the crowd was left in shock. They just weren't ready for it. Same idea.

New subscriber but long time viewer here. If you want another Rock - Classical music reinterpretation, listen to "Black Diamond" by KISS, and then listen to Yoshiki's piano/violin version. Best in my opinion.
You should check out Brooklyn Duo’s cover of Bohemian Rhapsody, here on RUclips. They’re a piano and cello duo, but on some pieces (including that one), they are augmented by additional string players.
I think now it would be time for Apocalyptica, who started the Rock by Cello trend! BTW, 2 Cellos always remind me a little of Giardino Harmonico playing Vivaldi.
I think you might like this song, it's a version too but by another group whose song you reacted to. "Libra and Special Guests "It Doesn't Matter Two (Lockdown Version)" A Depeche Mode Tribute"
There are a number of electric harpists out there. I saw Swiss new-wave harpist Andreas Vollenveider for his DOWN TO THE MOON tour in 1987, which won him a Grammy (for whatever that's worth)... and he designed his own electric harps... I wonder if Amy will every try out something along these lines... I bet she would, if given half a chance!
So glad Vlad showed you this amazing cover! You should also check out Moyun's arrangement of the tune for Guzheng here: ruclips.net/video/564u39PJfUI/видео.html
Hi Amy, glad you're venturing into certain types of fusion. if you're interested, the Kronos Quartet (who play only 20th and 21st Century music) started performing an arrangement of Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze" about 35 years ago. And at roughly that time, the Brodsky Quartet (who I heard in concert during their 1989 Shostakovich string quartet cycle in London) developed an LP-length song cycle called "The Juliet Letters" with singer/songwriter Elvis Costello, with one song from that work linked below. (The Brodsky Quartet also worked with Bjork, as well as continuing their career with contemporary and standard classical repertoire.) ruclips.net/video/IQGWiM0JVdk/видео.html And if you want to hear a full orchestra playing a rock song (a song with elements from African music as well as European) by another singer/songwriter, check out the New Blood Orchestra in an arrangement with Peter Gabriel of "In Your Eyes", a well-known song from the 1980s. ruclips.net/video/_hkLXKdysKQ/видео.html

Check out Tina S plays Beethovens "Moonlight Sonata" When the great artist Verrocchio saw his student Leonardo’s painting of the Angel, he became embarrassed, put down his brushes and vowed
“I will never paint again"
Buckle up Dorethy, Kansas is about to go bye bye!
You could have played the official video presumably without YT interference since hundreds of reactors have. Edit: What is the deal? Did YT block both versions? I have never seen the official video need to be obscured.
I worry that Amy's push back in the past over fair use had made her a target 🎯. I hope not but I don't trust RUclips
@@julianginniver5785 Yeah, YT is not trust worthy, but the official video has millions of hits and is one of the most reacted to videos without apparent flagging.
I"m surprised they (or their label) made you blur this out. I saw them live once. Fun, good entertainers.
Probably was done pre-emptively.
New subscriber but long time viewer here. If you want another Rock - Classical music reinterpretation, listen to "Black Diamond" by KISS, and then listen to Yoshiki's piano/violin version. Best in my opinion.
Heh! My friend's harp is also having a partial re-string and "haircut" as you call it, this weekend. =:o}
Laying on the back and doing a solo is what Angus Young of AC/DC does during a solo.
You should check out Brooklyn Duo’s cover of Bohemian Rhapsody, here on RUclips. They’re a piano and cello duo, but on some pieces (including that one), they are augmented by additional string players.
You did Lateralus by Tool on your channel. Try the 2 Cellos cover of it!!!
Virgin Rock I am sure you could name some classical compositions that ellicited the same response as this during the "classical era".
2 Cellos ( or maybe just Luca) have a beautiful version of Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters.
I think you should try the harp twins a try. It's the same idea as two chelos except it's two ladies on harps.
5:50 I find funny that you mention Thunderstorms, did the idea strike you out of the blue.
Electric cellos are great to lug around! I noticed they had some help from a drum kit.
I think now it would be time for Apocalyptica, who started the Rock by Cello trend!
BTW, 2 Cellos always remind me a little of Giardino Harmonico playing Vivaldi.
I totally picture a 17th-18th century audience hearing a rock song, reacting that way😂
not just a duo... twins...
I'd definitely give you the points for recognizing the music, even if the name of the piece escaped your grasp at the moment.
Vlad, please do not forget 2 cellos with Steve Vai with "Highway to Hell'.
Please please do more videogames music! Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger, Minecraft, Zelda, etc
I think you might like this song, it's a version too but by another group whose song you reacted to. "Libra and Special Guests "It Doesn't Matter Two (Lockdown Version)" A Depeche Mode Tribute"
try listening to "Apocalyptica" they did it first
Have you ever tried to put a transducer on your harp to feed the sound into a guitar multi-effect box to get crazy sounds? This might be fun to hear 😅
His playing on his back is a shout out to Angus🤘. Peace/JT
🤔💭Piano Guys "Beethovens 5 Secrets", Black Violin "A-Flat", Zi De Gukin Studio "Harry Potter's Theme Song", anything by Lindsey 🎻Stirling, you pick!
..Moyun " Thunderstruck & Hotel California"
(The Brodsky Quartet also worked with Bjork, as well as continuing their career with contemporary and standard classical repertoire.)

And if you want to hear a full orchestra playing a rock song (a song with elements from African music as well as European) by another singer/songwriter, check out the New Blood Orchestra in an arrangement with Peter Gabriel of "In Your Eyes", a well-known song from the 1980s.
