You're missing a few key elements of the renegotiation. First, we added void years that allowed us to spread out the cap hit. Instead of a 22M cap hit this year, it's only 6.5M, so we still have 23M of cap space left for 2024. Also, the compensatory picks we lost for renegotiation, were given to us in the trade, which is why we got a 5th and a 6th from Buffalo as well.

Sounds like they had to do that just to convince him he should sign back. If he does well they have to pay more. Also sounds like he wanted to go to KC based on NFL network reporting and the bills weren’t gonna let that happen. He may walk for nothing and go straight to mahomes.
He wanted to come to Houston they gave him an option to seek a trade with anyone just not with the chiefs so that mean even if he did want to go to the chiefs the Texans was his second best choice bcuz realistically the Texans are the only team in the NFL that can go heath to head with the chiefs

So it won't hit our cap space, which is at 22mill right now and will be higher next year.. I know, right?
