I worked that show, that was a very windy day. And this was why we used far fewer jumpers this year.

Aside from the apparent injuries and annoyance untangling those shoots, fucking amazing display.

LOL. I was working at a stand in this airshow, and I'm afraid this is the only part of it I remember.

holy shit at 3:55 mark you can see me, i was one of the paratroopers to hit the dz because i was light enough to maneuver easily. the day before everyone hit the tarmac so the air force over compensated even though the wind shifted causing us to hit the trees.

Many landed in trees, how many landed in jail?

I hope you land safe and sound right there in the grass. We'll get some rain tonight, that should make it and even softer landing.

@bigmasaquata1 It was the Air Force that planned the jump and Air Force Jumpmaster that said when to jump.
    It's not the soldiers faults.

Anyway, the previous day, jumpers were landing on the runway and cracking their heads. The aircrew compensated by flying a touch further north. Sure enough, soon after the first couple planes started their drops the wind picked up from the south and pushed a bunch a jumpers into those trees. The trailing planes can't just move over in a formation and there really wasn't any way for the crew to know about the winds picking up... Thus the result

I remember that day the ground still hurt my knees

Why dont they give you guys square canopies and teach you how to steer to the landing area? It's not that difficult. I wouldve been pissed if they dropped me with such a bad exit point.

One of the girls at my school ( I live in Conway, AR), who didn't go to the show saw 10 C-130s flying over her house and thought the US was being invaded.... hahaha

The only jump I've seen worse than this was when the DZ was an airport. I don't know what they were thinking. I wasn't Airborne qualified yet, so I was just watching. A bunch of our guys landed on the runway, in trees, and some of them on top of the hangar. I feel for the guys in this jump. I would've been pissed.

I remember jumping that day, and how pissed we were they dripped us over the trees🤬

@hongkongluna Nevermind. Steerable squares would mean collisions and entanglements with that many guys in the air. Blue Skies :)

Too bad you don't know that there were less injuries with jumpers falling into the trees on Sunday than on Saturday when many landed on the runway. Besides, the trees are on the DZ.

My bro was working the flight line when it happened. 300 out of the 400 dropped were in the trees. The wind calculations were 3 to 4 hours old...used the same from the "J" model drop earlier in the day. FAIL.

Some of these guys came out holding hands. way too close together. Even after riding each other's canopies, they could not get directions from one another?
Much love Airborne brothers Semper Fi.

  • @ABNSapper89

i was supposed to jump on this one but the plane broke down en route... had to turn around and fly all the way back to bragg on three propellers. i guess we can only jump out of "perfectly good aircrafts" instead of broken ones... lol

Haha, well, good for you I suppose. However, if you've ever flown in a C-130 for any extended length of time, you know it's not a perfectly good airplane. In fact, it's rather loud, uncomfortable, and at low altitudes, nausating. :-P
I was the 5th jumper, left side, on the very first bird. It really wasn't a bad way to spend a day working, even if it was on the weekend though.
