"Is that charcoal?" "Graphite" It's by far ny favorite medium. I love how mindful using it properly feels. I feel like people turn their noses up to it often times. But coming from a humble background, something about it resonates with me
I think the iPad was listening to me. Earlier today someone asked me what my preferred painting medium was and I answered with pros and cons of oil vs acrylic vs watercolor ect. And how I love them all. But ended with fundamentally graphite drawing was my first love and sustains as such. Thanks for this video.
Graphite was my medium of choice for a long, long time. I have shifted to paint and other mediums, but graphite holds a special place in my heart always.
🤍 I love how you talk about graphite. I've switched to colour pencils for a decade now after drawing only with graphite when I was younger - I don't have your level though 😅 - and I have thought about going back to graphite for some drawings and to learn from it. Your video really talks to me a lot. It's how artists talk about the material they use like it was a person, a living individual with its sounds, its texture, its personality, how it behave on each surface, each paper, interacting with other pencils, with the skin, etc. I've always talked about all of my pencils or the papers that way, and I see in the eye of my non-artist friends that they can't fathom how I feel about all of them 😅 Our mediums become such a huge part of who we are as individual and as artists. Because they allow us to convey our emotions, what we are dealing with internally. Anyway, I love what you do and what you share with us. You are such an inspirational artist. Wish you all the best for the years to come 🤍
I started drawing because of your videos. I was amazed by how delicate and sophisticated a pencil drawing can be. Never seen anything like it before or at least not at this level. I am nowhere near your level, and quite often I'm stuck or I just never finish a drawing I started, but I enjoy every second of it. THANK YOU
Graphite has always distracted me and mesmerized me. In first grade, I was more interested in shading in the little figures I was supposed to be counting. Now I watch in quiet appreciation and amazement as areas of my paper are transformed. I keep catching myself looking at a finished product and saying, "How did I do that?" Thanks for the beautifully done video.
Wonderful video! I loved the association of chemistry, essence, art and life in a cinematic video. Excelent script, photography, sound, edition. Congrats!
Your work is beyond inspiring, as is your patience, and your capabilities as an artist. When anyone asks who I aspire to be as good as, I show them your work and listen to the perfect silence before the inevitable jaw drop expression and the "Oh my God .... "
This reads as a love story to the medium which you work with, and it's incredibly beautiful. To know what's happening, the multitudes of what the material you're working with means... I've been looking for this feeling in my own work. I respect your love for graphite
You definitely understand graphite. Interesting that you approached this as your favorite medium. Usually this is the starting point of art. It is wonderful to hear and visually witness what you have discovered. Enjoyed this video, very inspiring.
Thank you, I enjoy your art and artwork. I had a art teacher stress the importance of the pencil and what it could do, I have never lost that love. I"m also glad to see art in graphite. It's overlooked as a medium way too often.
So cool how much you love and appreciate your chosen medium. Down to the atomic level. That's insanely inspiring, You got me looking at my art supplies in a slightly new way.
Pencil has always been my go to for any artwork I start. I was in a car accident that troubles me still after 20 years and the first thing I did was grab my pencil and paper and start drawing. It’s calming, sometimes mesmerising as you watch the pencil glide across the page leaving marks that eventually form an image. I will always have pencils with me, even though I’ve started using digital more I will always begin a sketch with pencils. Amazing video that shares everything I feel about graphite pencils. Beautiful work, I tip my hat to a master of the pencil.
This video is perfect for anyone who loves drawing! ✏❤ The tips and techniques shared are so helpful and inspiring. I appreciate the encouragement and advice-it really motivates me to keep practicing and improving. Thanks for creating such a supportive and informative video! 🎨🌟
Dang and here I was saying I can draw Seriously, the amount of talent you have is something I’ve literally never seen before. While I do mainly do digital pieces of art, I always love using a physical pencil for my more “creative” ideas
I understand. I used to draw with graphite since I was a tiny kid. Recently,as an adult I figured,or better discovered, that ball pens were more suitable for me. But graphite helped me pave my way through realism and drawing. So definitely special
when you talked about Beksiński in one of your video, I felt how much you are attached to the art, and now this one. oh my god. I wish I had known you earlier. You are amazing Jono.
What you described so beautifully can never, ever be replicated by AI generated images. They are not art. This video is art. The pencil itself is art. Everything we humans make with our own hands and minds and hearts, THAT is art.

Beautifully expressed. Thank you for sharing your practice and passion of pencils and graphite. Question? What do you use to fix the graphite between layers, and to set it when completed? Spray fix?

Hi! I've been watching your channel for a while and it's gotten me back into drawing after a long time away. I was curious, when you were using solvents to get darker graphite saturation, did you ever try just using pure ethanol? I think it would work well but I'm unsure of how it would affect the cotton in the paper.
This video is, itself, a work of art. 😮
I’m so proud of it! Jess and I worked really hard on it. Thanks for the kind words 🙏
