Triodes and mosfets, should sound really GOOD! Possibly better than the AKAI. But, then again, specs are specs and hearing is believing! I have an old Radio Shack (Realistic STA-2200) receiver. Probably their first, maybe only receiver, with Mosfet output transistors in the amplification stages. And, I must say, you can HEAR that. It's only 60-65 watts x 2 @ 8 ohms, but it's pretty heavy for that and it really pushes the bass on most speakers, pumps it up while still sounding clean throughout the rest of the audio range! Actually, the Luxman does sound pretty good in your demo!
Yes the Realistic STA-2200 was their only MOSFET receiver ( Hitachi). Excellent sounding 🎶🎶🎶. I’ll never sell mine. I recently picked up the LV-103 and it sounds marvelous 🎶🎶
I owned this amp (new) for some three years. It sounded great, provided the speakers were 8 ohms... The weakest point of this model was its small power supply section, so it worked hard to drive properly low impedances, not to say if it was pushed too loud for driving them. A more beefy current supply had done the job perfectly. To my ears, it was a smooth, wide and deep soudstanding integrated amp, given a right choice on the speakers. I miss it quite a bit.
Are you sure you owned this amp? I have this still sitting in my hall.its a powerful amplifier with 200w at 2&4 Ohm and 80watt at 8 Ohm..its driving my dynaudio 85db 6ohm loud..playing volume not even 9 o'clock (are you a keyboard warrior?) a great liar
this is interesting info from a test publication of the day 'Luxman calls its new LV-105 a "Brid" (hybrid) integrated audio/video amplifier because it uses vacuum tubes in combination with transistors, FET's and MOSFET's. Other amplifiers have been designed with various hybrid circuit configurations, but the Luxman Brid is a combination we had not previously encountered-its vacuum tubes follow the field-effect-transistor (FET) low-level stage and drive the power-MOSFET output stages. According to Luxman, the 6CG7 twin-triode tubes used in the LV-105 are more linear than conventional transistor driver stages, and they have greater bandwidth and lower phase shift. The LV-105 has two power supplies, the larger of which operates its audio transistor stages while the other supplies the voltages for the vacuum-tube stages. When the amplifier is turned off, the tubes go into a standby "pre-heating" mode in which their heaters operate on a reduced voltage (about 80 percent of normal) and their plate voltage is reduced by half. The Luxman LV-105 is rated to deliver up to 80 watts per channel into 8-ohm loads, from 20 to 20,000 Hz, with no more than 0.3 percent total harmonic distortion. The dynamic power output is given as 200 watts per channel into 4-ohm loads, and it is also rated for 200 watts with 2-ohm loads. In addition to its complete audio control facilities, the LV-105 is designed to serve as a video control center. As many as three audio/video (A/V) sources-VCR's or videodisc players (VDP's)-can be connected at the same time, two in the rear and one in the front, though only two of them can be switched simultaneously. The audio control facilities of the LV-105 are extensive. There are inputs for a moving-magnet (mm) or moving-coil (mc) phono cartridge, a tuner, a CD player, and two tape decks as well as the two audio/video sources. All switching is done by pushbuttons, with the selected source identified by a light. There are independent recording source selectors, including switches for dubbing from either audio deck to the other and for video dubbing (from AV SOURCE 2 to AV 1 only).'
It is using tubes as voltage amplifier stage...this is the reason why we have so big distortion numbers as tubes measure very badly but sound really good to our human ears...distorts in a pretty way.... distortion is , let us say, tuned
I ADORE luxman but that's when luxman got bought off! It doesn't look like the solid manufacturer it was once before that, how it has become again! One of the best Japanese amp's now
Great amplifier. I have the lv103 and the lv105. Don't like the sound ? change the bulbs , but do a little research. Maybe the amp needs new bulbs. ...
Greetings Andrew. No Serbian trumpet music?! Very clean sounding power comes through, although I always like the dynamic sound of your Cantons whatever you play through them. Still seems like a very good buy for under $120. I’ve watched many of your reviews and you’re obviously very particular in what sounds great or just ok. So which is your favorite sounding vintage amp that you’ve tested so far?
of course the sansui G-901DB(receiver), amps are more difficult to make a choice.....akai am-93, accuphase E-202(recapped) and onkyo m-504 sounded the best. All of these 3 where good, hard to say which one is best but if I had to I would say the accuphase e-202
Don't use WD40 on any electronic equipment! You can use synthetic grease for plastic/plastic and plastic/metal combinations and machine oil for the metal/metal!
Rui Barbosa I use wd a lot, it comes from observing electrical radio fixers who washed entire mother boards with paraffin (kerosine) back wen I was little in the 80s, I found wd to be just as good, especially for knobs that crackle and fixing dead press/clicking buttons hence I’m still using an old 70s Decca amp. Pls what are the bad things about using wd ?
ventura rodríguez vallejo mmh that’s some tidy equip you have, please search for the vid ...”how to clean the Cyrus...it also shows proper spray cleaner to use, you can’t beat that, cheers.
Acoustic of the camera is very important. The old videos with the old Magnat speakers , they had good acoustics (the room has good acoustics) and you could make an impresion about quality of sound from an amplifier or speakers. In these new clips is Impossible to do this. The videos are nice to watch but I can' t say which is better or good, they all sound the same .
i will place the microphone closer to the speakers....in the past i reviewed my stuff on the red table and the speakers where 70cm/1 meter from the microphone(cam) Since I thrown away this red table and placed my stereo and tv on that audio table i place the stuff i test now on my living room table and the microphone 120/170 cm from the speakers. I also discovered that the sound in the past was better so after your comment I start thinking and the only difference is the distance from the microphone(cam). In the past I had only the samsung camcorder. I still use this camcorder for recording the sound but for the image I use different cameras now. So the only difference is the distance from the cam to the speakers. In my future video's I will place the cam closer to the speakers like before....thanks for the reminder, I need that to wake myself up....
Unfortunately , I made some video's that will still come online and made with the cam on a larger distance.....one of those is a speaker test between 4 speakers.....the stuff I will record from now on will be good but the old, not yet edited stuff will have these same acoustic mistake
Since 1992 I own the Luxman LV107u and the device turns the Cd Luxman D107u with Altec Lansing 300 speakers. What to say ... very satisfied.
Cantons sound more bright and detailed in my humble opinion, thanks for sharing love the channel

No look inside
You need the Klipsch heritage series, very efficient.
Position of volume knobs depends on the input sensitivity and not the output power
That is a very bright amp , you can hear the electronic switching & clicks
I like how this sounds,,, with both speakers

Field effect transistor (the final ones) needs more current for biasing..this is the reason why
Nice video again Andrew, I think the sound is very nice.

Thank you, I am thinking of buying one these amplifiers. This, I think is great. Would you add your playlist, I found the music wonderful.

Maybe the amp needs new bulbs. ...
Yes, the 2 tubes are only for the preamp section. Small transformer is used for tube heating and high voltage.
the tubes are not for the preamp section
Mooie versterker!
Can you make a video on how to connect the speakers to the back of the amplifier
Beautiful

Hello, what is the best sounding amplifier you tested for Canton RCL?
Great video 😎👍👍👍
Great amplifier with excellent sound stage, what is the power consumption of this amp ?
60w with the volume knob on ) and 63w with the powerknob on 25%...so a bit more as most normal amp, my akai am-93(2x120w) use 49w with volume on 0
