      "Is it because he's black"
You have been watching far too much progressive Hollywood propaganda 🤣
Don't get me wrong, you are nice kids but...
The reason people didn't bang on about the leftist/globalist agenda being pushed through a propagandised Hollywood that demands discrimination through identity politics (diversity quotas, affirmative action etc) to avoid perceived discrimination (invented or manufactured racism, sexism etc) is not because they are programmed to believe a conspiracy theory that agenda exists but because they lived in a time that agenda did not exist and protest that it exists today.
It is incredible how some young people will retro-engineer the past to fit with the contemporary self contradictory version the progressive left, Hollywood & propaganda media program you to believe so that you can avoid the cognitive dissonance that would actually have you question the logic of your position and think for yourselves.
Strong women characters and female leads existed back then (when everything was supposed to be patriarchal bigotry), nobody complained about a misandrist feminist agenda because sexism was not an issue until 3rd wave feminists told everyone it was and invented new ways women were supposedly being oppressed when in fact in every metric that matters they are better off than men. Better health care, Better Prison conditions, shorter sentences, Preference in custody battled and divorce courts, shortlisted for housing (less than 5% of homeless are women), less than 5% of work related deaths (men do all the most dangerous jobs) and of course they live longer yet men get the same pension age and had to work longer for several decades before it increased for women. Women are generally far better treated in society then men and far less likely to suffer violence. The only way women have it worse than men is biologically but that is not the fault of men.
We get the same crap about minorities in Hollywood, as if non whites haven't had leading roles or as if the US was 80% black back then and not 80% white.
Nobody cared because equal rights were about having the same rights as individuals at birth regardless of skin colour or sex or sexuality etc and not discriminating against people.
But now it is the opposite, where equality is about discriminating through identity politics based on your gender, sexuality or race, that is what diversity quotas are, direct discrimination against whites.
And all of it is a social engineering program to have whites accept becoming minorities in their own nations as a good thing, yet if people pushed to make blacks minorities in their own nations through mass immigration of whites they would call it not only racist but genocidal.
The double standards and lack of principle or logic are mind numbing but young people accept them as virtue because so long as the regime doesn't call them racist it means they are good little boys and girls.
Think for yourselves and exercise your free will or are just slaves to regime that wants you to hate your own existence to make you easy to manipulate.

And T2 did not own the culture in the 90s. In fact the line "hasta la vista, baby" was a line from a #1 R&B song of 1987 by Jody Watley. It BORROWED from the culture. And by 1993, everyone had forgotten about T2 and had moved on to Jurassic Park and then Titanic as they had better stories and better special effects.

One of the few movies I still cry to every time I watch it. You can tell John loved the Terminator so much after all the trauma he's had growing up and dealing with his foster parents and all. You just want him to be happy for once. The Terminator although programmed and not human displayed more courage and self sacrifice than many of the people today. The music score and him being slowly lowered into the pit with the buddy gesture of the thumbs up at the end makes me choke up every time. After being sucked in and on the edge of your seat for most of the movie all these emotions flood you at the end. The actions scenes were so intense and the stakes were so high it makes Jack Dawson's sacrifice for Rose in the movie "Titanic" look like a picnic:)

You gotta give it up for MVP side character in movie history, Miles Dyson. A man who learns that his biggest success and life's work is what pretty much ends humanity. Once he sees Arnold's robot hand he instantly knows what's up and accepts his fate and decides to change it just like Sarah said 'Fate is what you make it'! Those last breaths he takes are so heartwrenching but he makes the biggest sacrifice of any character in the movie, without him being a good guy the movie could have gone a completely different way. Fun facts: in the scenes when the T-1000 mimics the guard and Sarah, those were their actual twins. Also, when the Terminator is chasing John on the bike on foot, he had to slow down because he kept catching it. Robert Patrick ran track in college and was quite fast. Fun fact: There was originally supposed to be a scene at the very beginning of the movie that would be set in the future, which would show Kyle Reese (with Michael Biehn returning) being sent back to the past to set up the events of the 1st film, while John and the Resistance destroy the time machine. But Skynet, before being shut down, had activated the prototype T-1000 and it got loose, managing to get through John's men and activate the machine to send itself back. And just before the titles sequence starts, John looks towards a nearby T-800, coming up with an idea.
Sadly, they didn't have the budget to film such a sequence, so they scrapped it for the opening monologue by Sarah instead, which still works. I just wish we could have gotten to see that opening.

This is one of the reasons I love the theatrical version so much more for first time watchers. Better pacing throughout the whole movie and after that final scene, just get out of there, wrap it up, and let them hold that for a minute.

Pretty much the only scene which makes me cry...every single time. I've seen the move probably 30 times.

The thumbs up at the end is sad because he was just learning how to have emotions. You can imagine being a machine, but then getting confused when a human reaction you’ve just learned kicks in. In his final moment, before death he was able to perform one last human gesture for John. He was for John until the very end

And the EPIC thing here is when "BLACK SUNGLASSES", worn by the Terminator T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger), was still on its head/eyes & was NOT dropped or fell off right after "it" was thrown away by the T-1000 (Robert Patrick) just like from 6:30..

    "Hasta la vista, baby."
The theatrical cut is INFERIOR next to the extended cut with the definitive ending. Those missing scenes have important narrative and lore elements. They were written and filmed by James Cameron, so no excuse for it being the definitive version.
Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Edward Furlong.
Practical Over CGI Fact: The Terminators seen at the beginning of the movie were fully workable animatronic models.
Seeing Double Fact: Linda Hamilton's twin sister, Leslie Hamilton Gearren, was used as a double in scenes involving two "Sarah Connors" (for example, when the T-1000 was imitating her). Identical twins Don Stanton and Dan Stanton played the hospital security guard and the T-1000.
Ned Nederlander Award Fact: Robert Patrick undertook a rigorous running regime and practiced breathing only through his nose, in order to appear to be a cyborg that could run at high speeds without showing fatigue. He had trained so hard that he was able to catch up to Edward Furlong on his dirt bike with ease.
Stripper Night Fact: A female passer-by wandered onto the biker bar set thinking it was real, despite walking past all the location trucks, cameras, and lights. Seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger standing in the bar dressed only in boxer shorts, she finally asked what was going on, only for Schwarzenegger to reply that it was male stripper night.
Nuclear Nightmare Fact: Special effects guru Stan Winston and his crew studied hours of nuclear test footage in order to make Sarah Connor's "nuclear nightmare" scene look as realistic as possible. A miniature Los Angeles was made to simulate the scene. Some of the materials used in the miniature that mimicked all the destroyed masonry were Matzos crackers and Shredded Wheat. After each take, it would take on average two days to set the model up to shoot again. In late 1991, members of several US federal nuclear testing labs unofficially declared it "the most accurate depiction of a nuclear blast ever created" for a fictional movie. The special effects team members have stated several times that no scene they've worked on since has received an equivalent amount of praise or emotional feedback from viewers.

According to the novel of the film, the T-1000 can be cut up and the pieces will track each other and rejoin up to a distance of 14KM (IIRC). That ability to track parts of itself is also why they throw the 'claw' part away after the escape from the mental hospital.

    Fun fact:
Linda Hamilton suffered permanent hearing damage during the elevator scene at the psych ward. They were shooting live rounds in the elevator, gunshots are loud. Continuous gunfire in a confined space? Louder than a jet engine on a tarmac. Linda Hamilton didn't have her hearing protection in correctly, that is her grimacing in actual pain during that scene. She suffered permanent hearing loss in her right ear and has to wear a hearing aide in it now.

After lowering the Terminator into the steel, Sarah and John hustle to find an exit, as authorities close in. Encountering a lone worker who is as surprised to see them as they are to see him, Sarah shows little hesitation in shooting him so they can get out. John notes this change in her, though he chalks it up to stress or desperation. Sarah wants to let Tarissa Dyson know that her husband didn't die in vain, but John talks her out of it, citing that the police will be all over the Dyson house. Knowing they can't make it to the border this time, she decides to contact Dr. Silberman. Sarah hits up a phone booth to get his number.
They arrive at his house and he obliges to shelter them because "after watching a liquid police officer walk clear through metal bars, I'm a little more inclined to believe you". Sarah apologizes for breaking his arm and holding him hostage, then collapses on the couch from exhaustion. John and Silberman stay up and talk. When Sarah wakes up, it's decided they have to cross the border.
Using Silberman and his vehicle, Sarah thinks they might be able to pull this off. En route, they are hindered by a massive police roadblock. Convinced Silberman sold them out, Sarah aggressively threatens to kill him. After naively thinking the destruction of the first Terminator had ended the threat of Judgment Day, she refuses to accept that they averted it, but instead that they "pushed it back". She is talked down when Silberman tells her she's probably correct, and that this is all part of the plan he and John formed while she was out. "You can't fight what's to come from a life on the run."
Sarah is arrested. John, taken into the system. Silberman uses his influence(which remains intact because he cooperated with the law) to ensure that Sarah is under his care and that John is enrolled in a good military school(his own idea).
This is where I stopped. The initial thought behind it was "why didn't the T-1000 kill Sarah after having her "call to John"? It stabbed her, why not go all the way? Maybe killing John wasn't its sole purpose, maybe it was a contingency to ensure Skynet's existence by seeding itself here in our time(or 1991 lol).
