I'm impressed. You picked up on everything most people miss the first time watching this movie. Even that Kyle always wondered what Sarah was thinking about when the picture was taken and in the end we find out she was thinking about him. That you picked up on that first watch through shows your attention to detail.
Considering that Kyle may be John’s father, then considering and referencing the bootstrap paradox… very perceptive! Great reaction.
You noticed Lance ("Bishop" in "Aliens"), But Reese was there as well, as "Hicks". And the Blue Haired Punk in the Beginning was Bill Paxton (RIP) as Pvt. Hudson.
I have to be honest I didn’t recognise Bill Paxton at all but with Kyle Reese I kept thinking I have seen him somewhere until I looked him up while editing and then I felt so dumb because I really liked his character so much in Aliens😅
And Vasquez has a role in T2 ..

Can you imagine the feeling of seeing this film in the cinema in 1984? Wow, what a spectacular film. What a feeling even today.
I don't have to imagine that, I was there in 1984. What a great time for films! Rambo movies, Terminator, Back to the Future, Indian Jones, all the cheesy Cannon ninja films.... wow!
Ah the good old 80's. The best music, films... The fashion though um don't blame me I didn't do it. It was the other guy.
Yeah, I wish I saw this at the cinemas, like I did with all the sequels. The first one, however, I saw on VHS.
What's hard to wrap my head around is that I saw this movie when it was in new in theaters in 1984 and a new generation is watching it for the first time in 2023. But for you, it's new in the here and now, for me, I had to wait 40 years to get to this same day so we could "watch" it together again on the internet, on computers.
Unfortunately I was too young to watch at the pictures, my first viewing was on VHS. I've sinced owned the film on every media format and watched it so many times, I cannot put a number on it. Seeing younger people have an appreciation for the film on their first viewing makes me appreciate the film even more. One of the best sci-fi films ever made.
Early in the movie, the Terminator didn't rip the punk's heart out, he punched a hole through the guy's upper torso which of course killed the guy.
It was so cute you waving your finger "NO!" at Sarah when she was leaving the message on the phone :)

The Terminator is possibly the greatest "B-movie" ever made. By that i mean, it is the greatest low-budget sci-fi ever produced. The Terminator is a great inspiration for future filmmakers. Cameron showed us what can be possible on a small budget and its freaking amazing.
T2 on the other hand is the greatest action movie ever made. Cameron showed us whats possible once youve established yourself in the industry. And its freaking phenomenal.

When this movie was made, it was less than 20 years since the moon landing and computers were advancing. 40 years seemed like a possible technical future where anything could happen. Who knew that humanity would progress so slowly in that span
That ending scene with Sarah heading towards the storm with the theme song playing always gives me goosebumps. I highly recommend the sequel.

The news broadcast just told her that the other two have both been killed with the _exact_ same MO, which means they had exactly the same _killer._ The phone book just showed her that the other two have been gunned down _precisely_ in the order in which they're listed and that she's _next._
So now she knows to be on alert. She doesn't know exactly what to be on alert _for,_ exactly how to spot it or exactly how to fight the _threat,_ but she understands that there's a _threat._ The other two Sarah Connors didn't.

Great reaction. O.J. Simpson was the first choice to play the Terminator, but the studio said they had a hard time picturing him as a vicious killer. Arnold Schwarzenegger arranged a lunch meeting with James Cameron to try to convince him to let him audition for the role of Reese but, during the meeting, he kept giving Cameron suggestions on how he thought the Terminator should be played and, by the end of lunch, Cameron decided to have him audition for the titular role.
In an interview, Arnold said he tried to convince Cameron that the famous line "I'll be back" should be "I will be back", arguing that the Terminator wouldn't use contractions. He said they argued for awhile before Cameron finally told him "Don't tell me how to f***ing write!" and that ended it.
If you want to see Arnie as a good guy, watch Eraser (1996). From the title, you may think he's a villain, but he's not.

It wasn't a mask of Arnold's face when the Terminator took out his fake left eye. They used the upper torso of a life-sized animatronic puppet for that, then combined it with the shot of Arnold just putting on the dark shades.
The scariest thing about the movie is that the idea of a super-advanced AI deciding to end humanity is quite plausible.
I agree with you about that epic song. It is also epic in terms of the setting. This moment was the pivotal event when humanity would have become doomed to extinction.

Lance Henricksen was considered by Cameron for the role of the Terminator at one point, so him appearing as Bishop in Aliens is kind of fulfilling that idea.

I always found it kind of funny that smart machines build an infiltration unit and model it on the biggest human it can find? Like no ones gonna notice?

I've watched about 2 dozen reactions to this movie and you're the first to call that out.
As a general rule, if a movie, game, book, or whatever uses time travel, just don't try to figure it out.
Time travel, at least into the past, is impossible. It always will be.
Mainly because time travel is always paradoxical and we don't live in a reality that permits paradoxes to exist - anything that is paradoxical cannot be real.
This reality will never have a square circle, never have a married bachelor, and will never have time travel.
Still on of the best sci-fi movies of all time. Still stands up even after almost 40 years (except maybe the stop motion). Another good reaction, Aria :)

Watch T2, Kyle didn't teach her what she eventually teaches John. It's mentioned how she associates with survivalist soldier of fortune types to train John for what he must be to save humanity.

I still get a kick out of young people seeing this for the first time. Saw this when I just purchased my first house back then. Never thought this movie would be this popular after all these decades.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is REALLY, REALLY good at playing a mechanical serial killer, especially doing it completely deadpan. Funniest line in this movie to me is when The Terminator scrolls through his list of responses when the landlord asks about the bad odor coming from the room and he chooses to say "Fuck you, asshole."

1982, 84, 85 & 86 were the years of the big summer movie block busters.
One of my all-time favorites! Much like "Alien", it's proof that you don't need to have a big budget to make an effective horror/sci-fi film that stands the test of time. This movie used to frequently be free to watch on RUclips, and I had to watch it every time.
Kyle Reese is a tragic hero. He spent whole life fighting against the machines and he didn't have time to have a normal life or staying with Sarah. His death was sad.

Yep. That's it. The Bootstrap Paradox. John's name is also a bootstrap paradox. That Lance Henriksen played an artificial person in Aliens is no coincidence. Cameron had originally cast him as the Terminator, but once Arnold got involved he was deomoted to the cop role. As compensation, Cameron cast him as Bishop in Aliens.
So glad you enjoyed it! The future was soo far back then, most of it didn't come out the way we thought (no flying cars). Glad Minnie and you got the small humorous parts, lots of people glance over or don't notice them ("gimmie a cigarette"," your mo*ther",). Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn) is also in Aliens (Hicks) as is one of the punks (blue hair) at the beginning, Bill Paxton (Hudson). Go to T2, even more (bigger budget, better technology) to see. Movies from 3 and on continue the lore, some good, some maybe less (good).
Then Predator, also a good franchise.
Bill Paxton is the only actor to be killed by an Alien, Terminator and Predator (though you could also argue Lance Henrickson as well, but he wasn’t technically ‘killed’ by the Alien, lol).
Aria, the digital animation that Cameron helped developed for "The Abyss" (it's also worth seeing the Special Director's Edition), made his dream of a more advanced Terminator character a reality in "Terminator 2."
James Cameron started out as an artist, engineer, and special effects guy before turning to writing and directing. He is usually hands-on in all facets of the production process.
If you see T2, be sure to watch the 152 Minute Director Approved Extended Cut.
The rest of the films in the Terminator series are quite skippable. Cameron's personal Terminator stories ended with T2. The rest were studio cash grabs. FYI

Aria, if you liked the first one, you will LOVE the second one. One of the rare occasions, where the sequel surpasses the original by a good margin. I am very, very sure you want to see that one!
(Forget the later ones. They can't hold a candle to part one and two of the franchise. These two are the thing.)

Kyle kept wondering what she was thinking about in the picture, now we know she was thinking of him.
In the television series 'The Sarah Connor Chronicles', they establish the idea that unless a terminator has other objectives, it will find a secure place and go into standby after it completes it's mission. They only wake up at a set time or if disturbed by something external. Of course, with all the timelines and reboots, it's arguable if that applies to this version of a terminator.
A lot of the questions you have get answered in future movies, especially the one about how the Terminators get their skin. There are different models since the one in the flashback that infiltrates the resistance base had a different look than Arnold's.
The great thing about time travel movies (or time travel in general) are all the theories and possibilities. Kyle says he volunteers, so that means John didnt chose him to go on the mission to save Sarah specifically because he is his father and that's how/why he is conceived. What if John wanted to go back himself? Or did John already know Kyle would volunteer so he let it happen?

This movie was so different in 1984. Sci-fi was Star Trek and Star Wars. Unstoppable murderers were in teen slasher movies. Shootouts were with six shooters and involved a handful of shots. This had everything.
The image of the Terminator murdering the first two women, standing over them and emptying his gun into their bodies was shockingly brutal at the time.
A brilliant concept, dynamic performances and an amazing score elevate this far above its B movie origin.
If you listen, you can hear the notes of the Love Theme playing when both Kyle and Sarah look at the picture.
The perfect circle of the picture just sticks the landing and gives emotional weight to the story.
14:06 watch for this guy (the cop) in Terminator 2. It's been confirmed that not only is it the same actor, it is supposed to be the same character.

Oh snap I wasn't expecting this but oh yeah, now we're getting somewhere. Great way to start it too. My only suggestion is that please do the extended cut for Terminator 2. The missing scenes makes the movie better trust me.
When you watch Terminator 2, please watch the extended edition. Not the "extreme" edition though. The extended edition adds several scenes that expand the story and explain some minor plot points.
Kyle idolized the "legend", Sarah Connor. He fell in love with her after spending years staring at an old picture of her, and wondering what she was thinking in that moment. And in that moment, it turns out she was thinking about her love for him... and she was pregnant with his child. Interesting paradox.

Dude..... there are all these cinema lovers and movie lover reactor channels out there. Or so they claim. Yet none of them have seen all or a majority of the big movies or classics of our time? Yeah right. I cannot make a react channel cause i own roughly 1,800 movies. Only not seen about 150 of those. And i have probably seen another 500 others i do not want to own. And i am only 40. But i saw lots of classics by the time i was 25. So forgive me for not buying into all the react channels out there. Bunch of rebel scum, if you ask me.
Arnold is not in ALL of the Terminator movies. He's not in Terminator Salvation, which was the 4th Terminator movie. After doing Terminator 3, Arnold had that little stint as Governor of California, then returned to do Terminator Genesis (part 5), and Terminator Dark Fate (part 6).

"Terminator 2" is not only a better sequel but one of the best films in its genre. I enjoy the original film (and very much enjoyed your reaction) but it's not the one I go back to re-watch. Most fans think of the first two films as the canonical ones. James Cameron had no association with the sequels that came right after.

With the paradox of her not calling her apartment; Would that not be an impossibility because from the Terminator’s and Kyle’s POV the past is already written so everything that happens has already happened and has to happen the way it does.
She had to make that call because that’s what leads the Terminator to her at the club and how she meets Kyle and ends up at the motel with him.
So I don’t think there can be any ‘what if’ things were done differently without introducing alternate realities.?🤷♂️
Lance Hendrickson was James Cameron's original choice for the Terminator, because they are supposed to look like average people to blend in. But then they got Arnold after his success in Conan, so Lance gets to be in it as a detective.

Hell yeah, everybody remembers the iconic images and effects, but--- the soundtrack to "Terminator" deserves more love too...
The part where Arnold goes up to the 3 guys and asks them for the clothes , that's the Griffith Observatory in Hollywood. And the gun store is next to the movie studios.

Kyle Reese comes back just for her is 100% for her. They fall madly in love, procreate, he dies saving her life, she bares and raises his son.
The inspiration for this movie was from a dream James Cameron had.

Terminator 2 is the best sequel ever in my opinion, so I'm sure people would love to see you react to it.
First reaction of yours I've seen. I'm impressed how quickly you picked up on upcoming plot points. Challenging when you're expected to talk & can easily miss important dialog. Very enjoyable to see someone smart figure it all out. Watch T2. Some consider it better than this movie. The drums in the music are designed to be like a heart. The composer, Brad Fiedel, imagined what a robotic heart would sound like. It's iconic.
If you can get past the 1980s feel of this whole movie. This movie shines a light on the potential dangers of A.I. Today, some of the leading A.I. researchers think we may be close to Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). Within this decade, kind of close. Other AI is called narrow AI, and can generally do one task (drive a car, play chess, have a conversation, etc.). An AGI can learn like we do without needing to be programmed. That is what Skynet would be.
We can acknowledge the danger without fear overtaking us. It's important to recognize that AI, like any powerful tool, has the potential to be both beneficial & harmful. The key lies in how we use & regulate it. AI can help us solve complex problems, from climate change to curing cancer, making our lives better & safer. With weapons of mass destruction like nuclear bombs, humanity may doom itself to extinction without AI. We should approach this new power with a sense of responsibility, ensuring that the development of AI aligns with ethical standards & benefits humanity as a whole.
I love this movie. I also appreciate movies like this because it can help start a dialog. There is no fate but what we make for ourselves.
Was 14 when I seen this movie, it was the talk all around school to see it, it blew us away, it will always be a Classic film for me, the 80s were a great time to grow up in, maybe that’s why nothing to day surprise’s me😂🤣😂, thanks for sharing 😊👍✌️🇺🇸

In the beginning of the movie, you saw the spiked blue-haired punk who got killed by The Terminator when he drew his knife. That was actor Bill Paxton. He played Hudson in Aliens. A Colonial Marine.
Kyle Reese, who is protecting Sarah Connor, is played by Michael Biehn. He played Corporal Hicks. Opposite Ellen Ripley. Hicks helped Ripley learn to use a Colonial Marine rifle weapon. He was also the only Marine to survive and go into stasis with Ripley at the end of the film. -OG
This is a end of your seat thriller! Seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger playing a villainous character is a change. The Terminator has action and suspense. It is a great movie to spend time with your family. I enjoyed it and even my wife who does not like action movies.
Technically, if Sarah just got out of the warehouse, the terminator is done. Good luck hunting her down with no skin, no legs, no guns, crawling around

You asked "What's the point of all this technology t go back in time if you can't bring a pair of pants?"
Fair question.
I'll answer with another: Do you think they chose to be naked if they could have chosen not to?
Of course not.
Which means, they had no choice.
Why?
Later in the movie Kyle Reese says something about how only living things can go through their time machine and when the doctor asks why, he says he doesn't know, he didn't build it.
Or to put it another way, the writers wanted them to be naked and did not want to have to explain why.
So that's a whole new question: Why did the writers want these guys to be naked?
Easy.
If Kyle Reese could bring back a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range, the exact kind of gun that people of the future use to kill terminators, then might easily kill the evil terminator.
In order to make the movie exciting, the writers needed an explanation as to why kyle didn't bring weapons, and this naked thing is what they came up with.
"He looks scary." Being without eyebrows (because they burned off) contributes to that.
One can easily argue Terminator 2 (T2), is the best sci fi movie ever made. The best sequel ever made for any movie franchise. A top 25 movie of all time.
It is THAT GOOD.
If i was you i would stop watching the franchise after that one. The rest are pretty bad. But i would recommend even if on your own free time off the channel to watch the two seasons of the Sarah Connor chronicles. It's a pretty good show from the 2000's era.

I'm having a hard time accepting the fact that it's been almost 40 years since I originally watched this.
In 1984 when I looked back 40 years I was looking at black and white movies with stars like Clark Gable and Humphrey Bogart, big band swing music like Glen Miller and WW2. Where did the 40 years since this movie was released go? Anyway I really enjoyed watching you watch this movie.

Since you recognized Lance, some things to know:
- he is who Cameron planned to be the Terminator
- He is the only actor to go up against a terrminator, a predator, and an alien
- He had a very rough childhood and was illiterate until his 30s when he learned to read in order to read scripts to get into acting
What about Bill Paxton? Killed by a terminator in this movie. A predator in Predator 2. And an alien in Aliens.
You should absolutely review Terminator 2. It's one of the greatest sequels of all time. And as to the other movies in the franchise. While Terminator 3 and 4 aren't as good as the first 2, they're definitely worth the watch. So you should watch the next 3. But there's no reason to do 5 & 6. They only damage the franchise. And Terminator is one of my favorite franchises.
Sometimes sequels don't deliver as much as the original movie. Terminator 2 is absolutely not one of those sequels :) I'd say it's at least as good as the first, if not better (though I saw 2 before 1, so maybe I'm biased, as it was the defining idea of what a Terminator movie is) I'd definitely like to see your reaction to watching it, there's stuff coming that'll blow your mind :)
I saw that film in cinema in 1984, and I remember that at the time, we thought there were two evil guys... We thought Kyle Reese was here to harm Sarah, or to kill her, exactly like the Terminator... We understood the two of them weren't working together but one against the other when Kyle started shooting on the Terminator in the Tech-noir discotheque, but we definitely knew Kyle was a good guy when he explained to Sarah who was he, why he's here, and why the Terminators wants to kill her

something interesting I noticed is that the company that makes Terminators is called Hyperdyne Systems. In the movie Alien the "malfunctioning" android named Ash was also made by Hyperdyne Systems. James Cameron tied both movies together with the same company. seemingly bent on destroying humanity.
In Terminator, it's "Cyberdyne"
The guy from Aliens was supposed to be the Terminator. He played an android two years later and the punk that died in the first scene and Reese played colonial marines with him.
Without even reading through the comments section I'm sure this will sound like a broken record at this point, but DEFINITELY watch T2 for the channel. It's one of the best sequels if not THE best sequel ever, alongside Godfather II and Aliens.
