    Like the quick video, and the inclusion of the topic in the video title. Good stuff

    Great video Raoul, the point about using the correct drilling/bit geometry is a very good one. Your videos get pushed into my suggested videos folder and I hope you can keep these short videos up.

    I had the same question when I wanted to upgrade my 2012 Pinarello. There was no hole for the FD. I bought eTap and have never looked back.

    I think this is great advice.
    Since you have way more experience than the average Joe, do you ever perform this modification in your shop for customers?

    What would be the ideal way for creating holes for internal routing during manufacturing? I think many brands are drilling holes as part of the post processing.

    no wonder people are eager to drill after seeing pro bikes with custom holes drilled by mechanics here and there... but these bikes are meant to be really used just one season, so no long-term effect worries

    #questionoftheday Is it ok to leave a bike in the car in the hot sun? Does the high temperatures damage the frame and carbon wheels?

      @fiddleronthebike 6 лет назад

      if the temperature gets to ~200° Celsius, it will become a problem...😏

    is it ok to drill di2 holes for titanium frames?

    • @LuescherTeknik
      @LuescherTeknik  3 года назад

      No, a stress analysis should be done, The hole can lead to a failure if the stresses are not allowed for.

    What about drilling an alloy frame?

      Same problem. Do you know if a spot was reinforced to allow for a hole? If not, you may weaken it in a critical way. Remember that the higher-end frames are extra thin wherever possible.

      ok in steel alloy if you make the entry and exit holes in the thicker butt region - builders do it all the time - use a very good high speed drill - clean up the hole - leave no cracks or rough edges

      There's some discussion on a couple threads on the Paceline forum and one article on Cyclingtips. The guy in the Cyclingtips article had a Merckx MX Leader drilled. He talked to at least two steel framebuilders who said that it wouldn't hurt anything. That frame does have relatively thick steel tubes, and doing this with lighter steel tubing might be riskier. While Serotta still existed as a company, they seem to have been OK with drilling some of their titanium frames, but not the triple butted ones. Lastly, somewhere on one of the forum threads, someone mentioned that Calfee would drill carbon for $700 plus whatever it cost to paint. Drilling into an aluminum bike though?

      Drilling into any material that has not been designed to have a hole in that location is a problem.

    You're going to go out instead and spend thousands of dollars on a shiny new bike where you could spend much less on a new group set?
