    Even when Roger used to lose he would be a bigger part of the highlights thanks to his playing style. That was not the case here. Very rare to see a player (excluding Rafa) hit so many winners against Roger. And it's Andy of all people, lol. What a great match! Miss these legends ❤

    Happened to be the last match Murray won against Fed. Fed switched to a larger racket the following year, and Murray had no answers to that in their subsequent meetings.

      Yeh tbf though Murray had that back surgery end of 2014 I think that played a party in his losses. Kit saying federwr wouldn’t have won matches as he did in Wimbledon 2015 but Murray took 6 months to get back to his best.

      @@LimebradleyMurray had the back surgery at the end of 2013. In 2015 he was well back to his best. Reached the AO final, Miami final, won his first ever clay court masters title in Madrid, lost in the Roland Garros semifinal in 5 sets to Djokovic, Wimbledon semis to Federer and won Canada against Djokovic in straight sets and reached the Paris final as well

      True. 2014 was a very weak year for Andy though! He was not even close to his 2008-2013 / 2015-2017 form, his head to heads against all the big guys in 2014 were weak.

    2012-2013 Murray was a sight to behold. The only period where there was an actually big4 in terms of match ups. The 4 of them were all playing great and Andy started collecting lots of wins against the big3 during these 2 years.

      If not for injuries murray is not unferior to djokovic I remember in 2009/2010 he was even better at times than novak , murray getting injured in the end of 2013 he needed a full year before coming back to that level in 2015-2016 but in that time djokovic made progress and gained confidence no need to talk about the hip injury in 2017 wich effectively ended his carreer

      @@angerisdiscipline3913 he was definitely finding his grooves after the wimbledon win in 2013. From Wim12 to Wim13 he made 4 consecutive GS finals (he skipped RG13) and won 2 of them. If he kept up that form we would def have had a true big4 era.

    • @Oakdenalan
      @Oakdenalan 24 дня назад +1

      2011-2016 was peak 'big four' era. All of them reached multiple Slam finals. Murray started to accrue Slams, and outperformed Federer as a whole for that period. To be fair, 'Big four' was a term that existed as soon as Murray and Djokovic were winning Masters and reaching Slam finals (and semi finals consistently) to be fair, so from 2008 to Murray's injury in 2017. It was mainly referring to the fact that any given big title - masters, ATP finals, slam, Olympics etc it was a a surprise if one or more of them didn't make a Semi final.

    Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe this was the only win Murray achieved against Federer at Grand Slam level. As others have said - Murray could’ve wrapped this up in 3/4 sets and maybe that would’ve given him a little more in the final against Djokovic. Who knows. Very tough to beat two of the big 3 back to back in a Grand Slam.

      If Federer had the mental toughness and consistency under pressure to convert key victories vs. Murray and Djokovic, then you wouldn't be saying this. Also, actually watch the points play out. Murray hits offensive shots all the time. Deep balls with pace, in the corners, etc. Those are offensive shots, not defensive. Saying Murray is just a defensive counter puncher is reductive and just shows you don't know much.

    • @Shankar-Bhaskar
      @Shankar-Bhaskar 2 месяца назад +1

      @@sawgames8623 Murray's game style is the very definition of a defensive counterpunching game style. Djokovic can take the offence to his opponents, but he too is essentially a counterpuncher, an aggressive counterpuncher more precisely. But, Murray is not and never was.

    • @Oakdenalan
      @Oakdenalan 24 дня назад

      Murray is actually pretty aggressive in this match and it's when he had most of his success - when he was with Lendl, relatively injury free, and being less of a pusher. He reached 4 consecutive Slam finals 2012-2013 (of the ones he entered), winning 2 of them.
      This could have been a 3 set match. Murray gifted what should have been a smash winner to give Federer a window to win the 2nd set, and then failed to serve out in the 4th set too. That's another criticisim of him, just wasn't as Clutch as Djokovic.
