  • packing for a vacation can be stressful enough, always the feeling of forgetting something super important that you can't replace, or the fear you've over packed and now your luggage is overweight with no extra room on the way back. Now we are adding on the stress of having a dog to pack for. A dog that you need to have prepared for anything... talk about anxiety inducing.
    I have traveled quite a bit with my service dog, so I like to think I know what I'm doing by now. Here is what I packed for my service dog for a one week vacation. I packed everything we needed in a normal sized backpack. Hopefully this helps you feel comfortable and confident when you pack for your dog in the future.
    if you have any questions, like always, feel free to ask them in the comments below, I would love to pass on any insight I have, and I'm sure others would be just as willing.

    Future handler here who flies at least once a year, and I've been wondering about the "does the bag that contains just my service dog's gear count as a medical bag or not?" question for several years, and glad to finally find an answer to it.

    Just An fyi, on Amazon they have beach towels that are like…microfiber, and they fold up super small. I have a queen sized beach towel that fits into a sandwich box. If you want to save space in your bag

    Love the backpack!!! Thank you for sharing!!!

  • @asecretcourtofcrowsandcloc4084

    Seems like you probably packed right amount to me. I hope you both had a good trip. The backpack definitely seems useful and with the pretty color. What’s the brand name of the cool mat you have? You’re dog very pretty, what kind is she? Also, do you have any gear that you no longer use you would consider giving away, specifically I’m looking for vests thatn would fit a 57 pound dog and also medium sized boots.

    At what temperature do you put the cooling vest on your dog? I have a golden retriever who LOVES the cold. We’re going to Universal on Friday and not sure if I should invest in a cooling vest or not. It’s suppose to be mid to high 80’s when we’re there.

    I love this vid!!! Question tho: do you have to show any kind of paper work to the security person or anything?? I know there is no paper work for service dogs but I was told that you had to show some by people.

      You might need to show proof of vaccinations and/or rabies shots, but besides that I can't think of anything they'd ask you. When I flew with my SD that's what they asked for, so I'd print it all out and put it in a file to hand them.

    I was wondering what flying with a service dog is like and if you've ever had a hard time? Do you purchase an extra seat for her or how does it work?

    • @betsiesbest1855
      @betsiesbest1855  3 года назад +1

      That’s a great questions and I’ll make a totally separate video talking about everything involved with flying with a service dog, but to answer your questions now, I’ve never had too difficult of a time, there’s always some stress but nothing that was any more than normal airport stress. If you have a very large dog, you would sit in bulk head where you have plenty of room, or if you have a medium to small dog, they can sit anywhere with you and they pretty much just take up the space at your feet like where your carryon goes. Imagine taking a public bus, and your dog would be in between your feet and kind of under your seat or the seat in front of you, it would be the same thing on the plane so no extra charge for her at all

      @@betsiesbest1855 looking forward to the video explaining all of that! I was recently diagnosed with multiple disabilities that I hadn’t realized were preventing me to be able to do normal every day activities. I am looking into getting a service dog. I have a few questions you could add to the video. Have you ever had a situation where the person sitting next to you is annoyed that you have a dog or is allergic? How much does your dog weigh/ what’s her size to be able to fit under you? Is there paperwork you have to fill out for your service dog before you take it on the plane? Is there a certain airline you usually fly with? Thanks!!

    • @betsiesbest1855
      @betsiesbest1855  3 года назад

      I will definitely answer those questions in the video, and get that up ASAP. It seems unfortunate to be diagnosed with something or things labeled as a disability, but it’s so helpful to actually know the cause of your distress and have a reason, so I’m glad you were able to get diagnosed 💕

    • @betsiesbest1855

      I have. I remember having to submit it to the airline somehow and then showing it to them upon arrival at the airport to finish checking in for my flight. It really wasn’t a huge deal and they made it (mostly) very simple
