That's badass man. I grew up out in the East Bay, so Rancid has been my favorite band since about 1997. I grew up on punk rock and new ska, and always listened to Sublime and stuff but it wasn't until the last few years that I got into the roots reggae and oh man, I always thought skinhead was just hard Oi! music but understood Spirit of '69 with skins and reggae but I live for this.
There has never been a sharper look than 'Tonic' strides, white 'Ben Sherman, black 'Loafers' and a real 'Crombie' for best and 'Levi's,D.M.'s,Black/White Check Ben Sherman and a Harrington for 'out and about' what times,we were proud to be who we were,WORKING CLASS.We had a full, vibrant culture of our own, with its own, rules, legends, music and structure. We may have had less money, fewer'toys' but we were better people. We knew our neighbours, the people in the pub we drank with, and who we were. With my gear on,a splash of Brut, and few Quid in my 'sky' from that weeks 'pay packet' I was richer than any King, and as happy as any lad on earth!
You forgot the Doctor Marten boots! The 'fashion' was resurrected and reinvented in the late seventies/early eighties, along with the Mod fashion and the punks. Our little crowd had all three 'types'. I had a boyfriend who had some DMs which reached nearly up to his knees! Tatoos were also a big favourite of the 'skins'. All this was the time of the new anglocised Ska music from The Specials, Madness etc. Our crowd wasn't violent, just thought we were 'trendy' and wanting to belong to a group.
Im 45 very soon and i still have a Chelsea anz rock my gear. Im from Canada and its not at prevalent here, in fact im the the skinbyrd in my city. ❤reggae fever for ever ❤
Appreciate the original skinhead generation. I got into punk mid 80s. Didn't go skin til late 80s. But the 80s was still a great time for the youth. 2tone ska, ska revival. Proper Oi bands, non extreme political ones. Were plenty of good skins around in the 80s. I met a bunch. 80s literally best years of my life.
00:00 The Pioneers - Reggae Fever 02:45 The Pioneers - Down at the Club 06:01 Symarip - Skinhead Jamboree 07:42 Laurel Aitken - Skinhead Gracias a un comentario más abajo pude conseguir la segunda canción. Buenos temas!!! :)

Thinking about starting back up and reuniting with my brothers.. been out of the scene for a long time.. This is the first time I heard this mix and it’s FUCKING AWESOME!! Nothing better then mixing races! Untied we stand divided we fall!! ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿✊Forever and will be #FUCKNAZISCUM!! Oioioi
having a trip back in time tonight to the days of my youth,,and the fantastic fashion of the skin/suede head days ,loved the reggae music and still do ,you can listen to reggae at any age,,, the fashion was the best we were clean and always dressed on point,,,,,
The ultimate teenage year.s late 60.s early 70s. I was a 16 year old skinhead in 1970 they were the best day.s of my life .Dm.s . brogues .loafer.s ben sherman.s. fred perry.s brace.s. harrington.s and crombie.s and the best music ever. We were the lucky one.s. Thousands upon thousand,s of skinhead.s .skinheadgirl,s took over every town and city in the country .A time we.ll never see again, SKINHEAD.S LIFE WOULD NEVER BE THE SAME , 70tezskin. [ albo ]
what was skin heads back then? I got into the NSM when i was in high school, now i know they use the music for manipulation but who is in charge. Well no body is racist. We add on don't have it on our original born models of self. Racism is a control tactic no different than the catholic church. I always heard of non racist skin heads and we fought a bunch but damn is this were they came from? whats it stand for. I am drunk so pardon my extreme questioning. I think I did pretty good drunk as I am lol.
I probably look closer to a mod than a skin, but I've got plenty of skin friends. Love that they've introduced me to this sort of music! Now conflicted as to whether to go to a ska night or a twisted wheel style night!
For the skinheads of 69 we were all in the same boat, No matter what town or city you came from, No money no hope but we had each other. This country has never seen the like before and never will again. 58 now but keep on stompin boys .
I'm now 67 and one of the Original skinheads...then a boot boy and suedehead 😮 It was mainly about the Music and Fashion then, but if trouble came our way we were ready for it 😮😮
nice one mate!!! cheers man i 'bout to cry this is all i've wanted scince i was a kid going to oi shows and reggae night. that why i became a skinhead to have the pride in myself and who i am. cheers
Skinheads started in East London in the late 60s, they were violent football fans that hated the hippies and the growing number of Pakistani immigrants into England. They were mostly dock workers that wore steel toecapped boots, Fred Perry polo shirts, straight legged jeans and braces. This style spread across working class England, skinheads hated Pakistanis, however some skinheads were West Indians, and the music of choice of Skinheads was and is Jamaican Reggae.
I joined Army in 72 and remember one time my Grimsby were playing at Coventry in a cup match and I took 3 coach loads from our camp. There was skins all over the camp but we were still a family, didn't matter what team you supported.
Brett Rd, Stonebridge Pk!!!!.....Orange Tree pub, Coach and Horses and The Greyhound pub. 1970-1973 Wembley Stadium ‘bunking in ‘in to all the football matches. Wally Kilminsters for your Adidas Backenbaur or Samba trainers, Gladstone’s in Willesden for your crombie , shirts , tonics and jeans ! Direct Shoe Supply/Faith Kilburn High St for your DM’s, boxtops, loafers, fringe and tassel and fringe and buckle loafers. The odd ‘tear up’ with rockers at the Ace Cafe but it was mainly football based rucks. Loads of skinhead girls in Wembley hanging round ‘The Orange Hand’ clothes shop in Wembley Central. No one had no money but we had great times, great memories of the clothes, football, music and mates!! All this was long long before 2Tone!! Skin/Suede , short hair, long hair, scooterboys, but most of all, SKA’D FOR LIFE !!!
Born 52 and in brighton 68....went Chelsea the bill took our laces from Dm's but had spares in pocket. Purley Orchid lots of reggae on Sats...Fun times not all fighting just fun and we were skins!
Yes some skins were racist an no way were bootboys from the 70s 80s pc. Get real for most it was a fade not the be all an end all. Stop selling skins as pc an non violent when that was part of it for many
guys that shout "die fucking nazis" remember that at the time of this song, the skinheads were people (black or white) from poor social level that liked jamaican music, make party and fight (just for fun). And there is still a lot of skinhead absolutely pacifics today. So don't make poor amalgams
I was a skinhead before Doc Martins. When we wore steel toe cap boots w studded soles. Of course I was also in a housing estate northern Ireland. A Catholic, Nationalist one. In my own experience the skins at that time had no racism involved. It was about being working class. As an aside- I have not heard the term suede head in almost 40 years.
Yeah, I hear you. It was like that here in the U..S in mid 60's. A good number of white teens were into early R&B, the Dells, Four Tops, so many others. Good music has no boundaries. And never should.
I'm now 62 but was a skin in 60's. Had some great times and many Jamaican friends. Great people and great music.
