I have found that I can use 2 fountain pens in the moleskine cahiers plain journals; they are twsbi eco extra fine filled with noodler's black and a super cheap off brand, Epakh on Amazon also filled with noodler's black. In fact, I like the flow of the Epakh better, and the ink is darker, yet the line is still fine. I do still need to allow for dry time and use a blotter page if writing a lot. Overall, I'm quite happy with the pen to paper performance all things considered.
I would like to see you in the 013 insert just to get a review of it as you have reviewed wandering many times. I'm curious to know how the paper is as you use it daily. I actually have some loose leaf 52gsm TR paper on hand; so I could compare our thoughts and see if they are the same. If it stalogy paper that would be amazing as it's my favorite! I'm currently working through my stock pile of journals before I stock up on anyone, but im always interested in new finds. Thanks for sharing!!
013 insert is my favorite! I tend to like to change things up, but I always come back to 013! I use fountain pens with no problem, make collages, draw and etc. I have no idea what kind of paper it is. It does not seem the same as what's in my hobonichi weeks, but I'm no paper expert. All I know is: that insert is awesome!That being said, go with what your feeling!
Oh, good! Now I don’t feel as weird since you also noticed it. There is definitely something different - like they put the TR from the Hobonichi in a blender with Stalogy and out popped an 013 insert.
I'm in a Moleskine planner and journal for the second part of the year. I ran out of space in my TN weekly insert and standard Stalogy that I used as a journal and was looking for a new planner for the rest of the year when I remembered that I had an unused Moleskine 18mo planner from 2019. I decided to re-date and use it only to find out that I actually don't need to re-date anything, as all dates match through the end of 2025! I thought this was meant to be, started using the planner and immediately it felt like home. Something about that horrible paper that feels just right hahaha. Im even fine with having to put my beloved fountain pens away for the time being. Although I did order a bunch of ink samples to see if I can find a unicorn that would work with the this paper. Anyways, I now also own a large Moleskine daily journal in soft cover that I use in the same way as you, except I'm covering the dates with correction tape. And I'm considering a pocket daily Moleskine to put into my September Leather passport that I use as a wallet and EDC... Oh my... How did I end up here lol.
Oh, this made me laugh: "Something about that horrible paper that feels just right." I agree. I think I'm on my fifth one? And nothing feels like a Moleskine in the hand ... not even my beloved Leuchtturm1917.
I'm currently using the 013 insert for my self learning philosophy notes in my TN, and the paper is amazing. Like others have mentioned, it works extremely well with fountain pens, and it makes this nice crinkly sound while using it.
My favourite travellers notebook outside the travellers notebook brand is the Galen leather travellers notebooks, especially in the crazy horse leather. Their wallet insert is also something worth looking into!
