Just what I needed. I'm sharing this with my friends for safety and recreation. I have an in ground pool in California, and my friends are unable to enjoy it with.
I didn't have access to a pool growing up. I learn how to swim in my twenties. I was determined to learn because I was going to go to Hawaii and I was gonna get in that ocean! Plus, I wanted to participate in water sports and needed to feel secure with myself even while wearing a life vest.
Thanks for sharing this. Am 32 and am learning how to swim. Am teaching myself so the progress is a bit slow. I’ve been wondering when I’ll ever be able to swim in a big water body
Always great to see Black people getting past the fear of water and learning this essential life skill! Well done and keep going! I teared up as well, with pride! 🏊🏾♂️
Hey clowns that say swimming has nothing to do with color. The fact that there is a lack of facilities in brown and black neighborhoods is an issue. Even if there were the pools are not accessible for one reason or another. The ymca in nyc charges over 130 a month to use. The parks dept cost 100 a year. There is a parks dept site in harlem in 135st that I learned to swim at that has been "under renovation for 5 years" the only other place to go is the ymca 130 a month vs 100 a year.
I also used swim at the pool on 135th Street. Which, as you mentioned, has been closed for like forever. Growing up, that was the only affordable pool to swim because it's free until the age of 14. Also, as you mentioned, the YMCA is way too expensive.
@christopherbrockington yeah man the bathouse was the only good place to swim. Sheet when I was a kid there was a diving board. It was so simple i live in Lennox terrace cross the street and could walk there. Now, if you can't afford it there is nowhere to swim as u know
While we miss TJ and Amy ... we realize why ABC27 did what they had to do. By Casting a gay man (DeMarco Morgan) ... they will never have to worry about their hosts and "hanky panky". Many women really love Demarco as they feel very comfortable with his feminine gestures and they have commented that he fits in with the other female cast members very well, as his eyebrows and nails are done even better than theirs. All is well that ends well ...
Way to go Demarco, this is a very important skill
I am so proud of you!🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️
Glad you learn to swim Marco! Congratulations! It may come in handy some day! Greg 😊
My smile is sooooooo big!!! So proud!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Thank you for the encouragement to learn how to swim! I’m 48 and don’t know how to swim!

Love reading any thing about DeMarco. I am his 93 year old fan. Adore this gentleman.
God bless you my young brother.
I know right?
As soon as I cross that line, I swear the water is pulling me under.
Love

Being able or not being able to swim has nothing to do with skin color.
It has to do with access. And unfortunately there are lots of black kids/people who don't have that access for a various reasons.
They can make anything about race
I thought we're human
Who is they and can you personally relate to “their” experience?
