Around your insert holes - add a slight chamfer it'll help guide the inserts. Also, I have had excellent luck leaving the inserts slightly proud of the surface and then pressing them the remaining distance (while still hot) with a large flat chunk of metal. This ensures they are flat and helps cool them faster.

I do the same thing but I flip them over and press tham against the table

This is what I do. I still sometimes unintentionally add tilt to the insert and don't even realize it until afterwards.

Brian yes please! More actual design tips and tricks will help alot. Atleast in my case. Figuring out how to make cad models can be incredibly tricky and having to learn fusion 360 is a whole task on itself. Maybe a f360 series for beginners?

I felt the need to insert this comment on your video about inserting inserts into insert holes for 3d printed parts that need to have inserts inserted in them to better hold screws that need to be inserted to hold insert laden parts together. Great video as usual, Sir! Three last inserts inserted for inserts' sake.

Been doing this a while, never knew there was an actual tool for putting these in, I just used an iron. I'll have to check out that tool. If I am making a bolt-together joint that will be taken apart infrequently, I just bolt directly into the plastic. But, for my waterproof RC receiver boxes, were for frequent access might be required, I use threaded inserts.

Many brass inserts are moulded around in the injection moulding process or sonically inserted. Tip twist slightly as you insert to get a good bite.

I appreciate your insight and the new awareness on the little machine that offers better control over the soldering iron. I would personally welcome more soldering-related videos down the road. I would like to see your take on the best soldering irons available and things like soldering flux, positioners, and related cleanup if you can ?

Thanks for the excellent video; it was very informative, whether you're new to using inserts or not. Perhaps you could do a follow-up showing the different types of inserts that get inserted in the holes you make for inserts, *ahem, as some are much better than others, especially the kind you use, as they have that leading edge to go in the holes first. 👍
I found an unused pack of 5 or 6 multi-tips lying around in the box where I keep my old Weller gun, soldering iron, stand, et cetera that never get used anymore: once you go T100 or similar, there's no going back. So I popped them in my drill, cranked it up to 11 and used a file to take each tip down to the correct size for each dia. insert in the kit, which easily saved me 20 quid and are just as good as the ones being sold. 🤓
I'll be buying some 2020 & 2040 eventually and having a go at making the vertical iron holder press thing, too, as I'm finding more and more uses for the inserts in my designs; in fact, I find myself looking for any opportunity to use them now! 😆

I've done a handful of heat inserts. I have a benchtop soldering station. My biggest issue is I sometimes add angle to the insert from not keeping the iron perfectly vertical. I can't even tell its happening until I've already pressed it. I haven't ruined any prints yet, but it's been close. I'm definitely thinking of going the press route.

To get them perpendicular to my print, when possible, I heat and insert the insert til it just a mm or so proud of the print and then I use a metal rulers broad side to shove it that last mm or 1/16". When the ruler is flat on the surface of the print I know that the insert is at the correct angle. That way the insert is inserted perfectly perpendicular, every time.
