Thanks so much for this quick and to the point video. The auger belt on my snowblower went during the last snowstorm and I replaced it yesterday right before another storm today in PA. I was worried this was going to be a real challenge but this video make it really easy. Thanks so much!
Thanks for the how video. Great tips on how to replace the auger belt on my Troybilt snowblower. Sadly, breakdowns always happen when you need to the equipment to be working. I don't have a garage, so I had to replace in my driveway. Temp was 19 degrees. The hardest part was keeping my hands warm for this 5-minute repair. Thumbs up and I plan to keep it that way by not putting my hand in the snowblower.
Mine just broke. It was working fine until I hit a large rock. I don't have a garage either. But I live on a hill and my basement has a door at the back of the house. I was in luck, the snowblower fit through that door!
Thant great! I’m glad the video was helpful and you were able to save yourself some money! Thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!
Thank you so much! My hubby was supposed to replace the auger belt on a Troy-Bilt but ran out of time and we got some snow so with the help of your video I went at myself and my beautiful Sampson is now blowing snow just like he should be I will say getting that old belt off was not near as easy on mine period it was super tight and I don't have the greatest hands but I got it done. Thank you again for all your help

Thanks I never worked on snowblowers and just by having a quick look at the auger belt I thought I had to remove the whole bucket and pulleys but It slides in between the two 😂 great video, thanks!
Excellent !! I was able to get right at the belt & replace it. Had to pry the 2 pulleys apart with a screwdriver & twist the new belt just a bit to get it between the pulleys. I ended up removing the long spring on the red painted belt keeper & then could move it out of the way. Remember to hook the spring back on.

@@5MinuteFixit I have another issue maybe you could do a How-to video for. My Troybilt Snowblower just like this one has 6 FWD and 2 REV speeds. It won't reverse in speed 1 and speed 2 barely moves. How so I fix that? It's been like this since new or pretty close to it. Blower is 10yrs old now.
@@PurpleSideBlack this almost certainly has to do with the cable adjustment...I noticed that my snowblower has trouble in reverse as well. This is a good idea for a video in the future...thank you for that!
Great job. This is something I can easily do. 👍🏼👍🏼 I just purchased this model used for $100 and it started right up but the auger and isn’t working so I took the cover off and low and behold the belt is broken.

Thanks, this was a great video and very helpful! One issue I had after replacing the belt was when releasing the auger lever it rubs against the plastic cover a bit. Could this mean it needs a cable adjustment to tighten it up a bit?
Thanks so much for this video. I just replaced my auger belt and probably saved myself quite a bit of money. Upon trying to get the belt off, I noticed something in the housing. Turns out an acorn was stuck in there. Two actually so I'm wondering if a mouse was attempting to make a house.
Thanks for watching! I’m glad you found it helpful and were able to save some money! I just uploaded a drive belt replacement video today if you’d like to check that one out as well: ruclips.net/video/su5wcc2S4UA/видео.html
I can smell rubber now and then...my auger doesn't have the power to throw deep snow now.. I tightened auger cable, it worked for a bit and now it will only throw very light snow if it gets deep it stops....I tightened the auger cable again and same results...I would imagine I need a new belt?... I just watched another video and I may have to adjust the idler pulley also.......thanks for the video.
@@nickh5049 The belt was worn badly, I can only assume it was never adjusted properly from the factory as its only on its 2nd year with hardly any use....
So I replaced both belts proactively (5 years old), and now it makes a noise like the belts are rubbing on something. I think the guide on the auger belt is making contact with the belt at idle when it shouldn't. Any advice?
I just ordered an auger belt and wheel drive belt…the auger belt on the replacement belt is not notched for auger as original is and the drive belt is notched where the original was not. So both opposite of what originals are. Does that sound right? I have a Troy bilt 2840 storm. Got from Amazon. Thank you.
When you take off the original belts I would match up the length and width to make sure they are correct. They may very well be the correct ones but I would recommend comparing them first.
The video was very helpful! The original belt on my Storm 2840 was MTD 754-04195 and it seems like the MTD 954-04050A belt is too small (and the belt in your link doesn't have the teeth on the side of the belt). Do you know if they changed the belt specs at all?
There are two possible engines on these models, Large and Standard. The 04195 (37") is for larger engines, while the 04050 (35") is for standard engines. Troy Built's website lists both for my Storm 2410. Probably best to remove the old one first and measure before replacing.
@wtriba for some reason my aftermarket supplier lists the 37 as 36 3/4. Interesting though is is shows cogged as was the one in this video. My friend's broken belt was not cogged interesting though is mtdparts site is picturing it as not cogged but also as 04195a
The only way I could remove the auger belt was to remove the whole front end...this past time, I found another way to provide more clearance to that bolt that stops it...I found that if I removed the bolts from the rubber drive wheel above the friction wheel and moved it to one side I could get more clearance from the bolt on the big auger pulley..I sure is easier than removing the whole front of the blower...what do you think of this way?
I think as long as you have enough clearance to remove and then reinstall it that way I don’t see an issue at all. I guess worst case is if you ran into trouble you could just spit the unit and finish it that way! Thank you for watching, hopefully this helps!
As far as I understand it helps keep the belt from jumping off the pulley. Hopefully this helps! Thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!

How long do the belt last? How often should I replace them as preventive maintenance? Thanks
The belt should last a while, my machine was close to 8 years old when I replaced the belt.
