  • The day I published this video, Gogo sent me this:
"As you may know, Delta has multiple Wi-Fi provides - one of which is Intelsat / Wi-Fi onboard. Unfortunately, this flight was not equipped with Wi-Fi Onboard (us) so we don't have any information with respect to the Wi-Fi on the flight. You may be able to contact Delta for additional information.

    FUN FACT!
This route was first operated (in an eastbound direction,
ATL-JNB only) non-stop by South African Airways with a Boeing 747 on Feb 1, 2000,
which was -at that time-the world’s longest commercial flight!

SIXTEEN HOURS IN AN AIRPLANE ISN’T AS BAD AS IT SOUNDS-- ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE good food.… and BEVERAGES…. decent entertainment….GREAT SERVICE…. AND ENOUGH SPACE TO DO YOUR SUN SALUTATIONS! But, there were some disappointments…
We’re at O.R. Tambo international airport in South Africa and we’re about to fly Delta airlines longest flight.
Before boarding, we were given access to a very nice lounge called “slow lounge”. See a complete walk-thru of that lounge at the link above or below.
AND THERE SHE IS! THIS A350 IS FAIRLY NEW, DELIVERED TO DELTA IN 2022.
DELTA FLIGHT 201 FROM JOHANNESBURG TO ATLANTA IS NOW THE CARRIER’S LONGEST FLIGHT AT A BIT MORE THAN SIXTEEN HOURS.
FUN FACT: This route was first operated (in an eastbound direction, ATL-JNB only) non-stop by South African Airways with a Boeing 747 on Feb 1, 2000, which was --at that time--the world’s longest commercial flight!
ALTHOUGH THIS IS DELTA’S LONGEST FLIGHT, THERE ARE ACTUALLY THIRTEEN FLIGHTS WITH OTHER CARRIERS WHICH ARE LONGER, AND IT PALES IN COMPARISON TO
SINGAPORE AIRLINES’S NEARLY NINETEEN HOUR FLIGHTS FROM NEW YORK TO SINGAPORE.
By the way: sixteen hours in a delta one suite does not come cheaply. ONE-WAY FARES ARE AS HIGH AS EIGHT-THOUSAND DOLLARS! I BOOKED THESE TICKETS WELL IN-ADVANCE AND WE PAID JUST 19-HUNDRED DOLLARS A PIECE THRU TO RALEIGH-DURHAM VIA ATLANTA. FARES FOR NON-STOP TO ATLANTA CAN BE ABOUT 4-HUNDRED DOLLARS MORE, SO THIS IS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF HOW A MULTI-LEG ITINERARY IS CHEAPER THAN A FARE WITH NO LAYOVER. AND, AGAIN, WHY THIS PRICING ENCOURAGES TRAVELERS TO BUY THE CHEAPER FARE AND SIMPLY SKIP THE LAST LEG. BUT, THAT’S A TOPIC FOR ANOTHER TIME.
Delta made headlines as the first airline in the world to ANNOUNCE an all-suites business-class cabin WITH closing doorS for privacy. Before the debut of the PRODUCT, however, Qatar Airways beat Delta to the punch with its own all-suites business class known as Qsuite. SEE OUR VIDEO OF THE Q-SUITES AT THE LINK ABOVE OR BELOW.
WAITING FOR US IN OUR SUITE IS A MENU… SOME HEADPHONES… A BOTTLE OF WATER… SLIPPERS… AN AMENITY KIT… INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW THE LUMBAR SUPPORT UNROLLS TO BECOME A MATTRESS PAD…A BLANKET AND PILLOW MADE FROM RECYCLED PLASTIC BOTTLES…AND A GLASS OF BUBBLY.
EACH suite HAS AN 18-inch, high-resolution touchscreen.
JUST OVER YOUR SHOULDER IS A high-powered USB port and A universal power outlet.
THE TABLE, ALTHOUGH SPACIOUS AND STURDY, DOES NOT ALLOW YOU ACCESS TO THE AISLE UNLESS IT IS STOWED.
UNDER THE ARMREST IS A VANITY MIRROR AND A REMOTE CONTROL.
THERE’S A GENEROUS AMOUNT OF FOOT SPACE FOR MY SIZE THIRTEENS…
THERE’S A UNIQUE “SCONCE” WHICH DOUBLES AS A READING LIGHT.
THE SUITE LIGHTING INCLUDES A NUMBER OF INDIRECT LIGHTING FEATURES SUCH AS THE SCONCE, LIGHTING IN THE STORAGE SPACE OVER YOUR SHOULDER, LIGHTING IN THE SPACE JUST OFF YOUR ELBOW, LIGHTING ADJACENT TO THE SLIDING PARTITION, ACCENT LIGHTING AT THE FRONT OF THE SUITE, AND LIGHTING IN THE FOOT WELL.
HERE’S WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE AT NIGHT.
BEFORE TAKEOFF, THE CAPTAIN STROLLED THROUGH THE CABIN EXPLAINING THE FLIGHT PATH TO ANYONE INTERESTED.
SINCE WE DON’T HAVE WINDOW SEATS --AND THERE’S NO EXTERIOR CAMERAS ON THIS EQUIPMENT--WE HAVE NOT VIDEO OF TAKE OFF, SO LET’S GET RIGHT TO THE FOOD!
I STARTED WITH A COCKTAIL TO GO WITH MY WARM NUTS.
SEE THE COMPLETE MENU NEAR THE END OF THIS VIDEO.
And, here’s DISAPPOINTMENT NUMBER ONE: A FEW DAYS BEFORE DEPARTURE, WE RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM DELTA EXPLAINING THERE WOULD BE NO WIFI ON OUR SIXTEEN HOUR FLIGHT!
When I asked delta for more information, they pushed me off to the service provider, gogo inflight.

The South African 747 used to stop in FLL on the way back. CPT-FLL-ATL. The food looks so weird and disgusting. Ice cream looks like the only winner.

Food was fine. Delta is never going to beat an Asian airline, that's for sure, or even Virgin Atlantic. I did enjoy that sundae! Thanks for the comment. Please subscribe!
