When you first mentioned "hen saddles" I instantly pictured little chicken jockeys riding chickens in chicken races... I know, it's just the weird way my mind works. May you and your family have an amazing and blessed Easter!
I also do not trim spurs, unfortunately a hawk took out my rooster.....so a friend gave me a bantam roo and he is just their to keep the peace amongst the girls, they are very large Brahmas butI did use a hen saddle on one of my girls because like you said the rooster had one he liked in particular and it helped save her back. Good video!
I am so glad you explain that. I did not comment on the other video because I seen everyone else was asking what in tarnation is a hen saddle. My grandparents grew up on a farm but I have never ever heard of a hen saddle. LOL
I have hen saddles due to my rooster has an over attachment to his ladies especially my Elvira. I ordered mine off of Amazon and when it came I got a HUGE laugh when it listed the reasons for wearing a hen saddle. "Protects the hens' back (and shoulders) from treading by amorous roosters' Yes, it was in writing, roosters who are amorous :D I also use the hen saddles when one has an injury to their back to protect it from the pecking hens.
Ms. Scarlett was a cutie in her cherries. She knew it too. Bet hubby will be glad when all the little things are done. thanks for sharing today. Be safe and pace yourselves.
When I first hit the go button on your channel today, I liked to fell out of my rocking chair about “What the tarnation is a hen saddle?” Love everything you post!
You know, i always thought hen saddles were silly. 5 of my hrns have bare backs. I just ordered some ssddles & putting up another pen to give them a break from the roosters. Wondering if their feathers will grow back before the Tennessee sun gets hot & sunburn is an issue?
As always I love your chicken videos. I have a small flock of 14 hens and one rooster. My rooster is the sweetest Lakenvelder who takes great care of the hens but he is giving to much attention to my little speckled Sussex. He is real easy about getting up on the hens but she has lost a lot of wing feathers even though her back is in great shape with little feather loss. So do they make anything for wings and shoulders like maybe a chicken shawl? Anyway have a great day!
Hello from Texas Patara and Happy Easter. We are dealing this right now while we wait for our babies to mature. We have a Buff Orpington girl who's getting a lot of attention so I like the idea of the saddles. Thank Miss Scarlet for being a great model. Hugs from Houston.
What a coincidence that you would pick today to talk about hen saddle. My daughter's hens are pecking at each other. I suspect they are stressed somehow. I feel they need a larger coup and outside space to reside in and that they may need some supplements. I'm awaiting the delivery of the saddles. And I plan on purchasing some extra foods to help them out. I want to increase they in take of protein. Other than that they continue to lay each day. Wish me luck!!
Just found your channel and really enjoying it! I bought saddles for my hens and they are scared to death of each other while wearing them. They run from each other like they’ve got explosives strapped their backs. Have you had this issue? What would you suggest as a next step? I monitored them for a while to see if they would get used to it, but then the rooster started being aggressive to the hens wearing the saddles like he was protecting the rest of the flock from the saddled hens.
My rooster torn my saddle off my hen. He wouldn’t stop bugging her until it came off? Did I do something wrong? I grabbed her at night since he gets very mad if I touch her in the day.
I need help😬. I don’t have a rooster but one of my hens keeps flying over the fencing of the chicken area. My husband clipped her wings but it did nothing. We live in a neighborhood with neighbors all around us. I need to keep them in the yard for their safety and for mine😬!
Scarlett is so precious. I can see she adores you.🐓

Said it before- I'll say it again- you and James are GREAT together!
You have a precious husband. He looks sooo tired. Never heard of a hen saddle. So cool.❤️ stay safe and well.
Yes, what is a hen saddle? James is so very funny. Scarlett did great, glad to learn this.
I like the 12 to 14 hens to 1 Roo ratio as well. I've separated my Roo from time to time. Good management is important for happy productive hens
I love you Patara, you are so cute! Your interactions with your animals is precious, love seeing more of James too!!
Patara, God blessed you with a good man. Y’all are a perfect couple. Thanks for the video.
Thank you, we did have oneRooster that was merciless on one of our hens. We had to separate them. I didn’t know about a hen saddle. Now we do!

So cute
Gadsden Flag Saddles.
Looks like Ms Scarlet may have worn one once, or twice. Wow she didn't even put up a fuss.
My rooster torn my saddle off my hen. He wouldn’t stop bugging her until it came off? Did I do something wrong? I grabbed her at night since he gets very mad if I touch her in the day.
ahhh neat idea
Interestingly
I’ve now had a complete life. I’ve seen it all.
Amazing
