Skala is indeed beautiful. July and August was, before the covid outbreak, very busy. And hot. 35 degrees average. But if you like that then it’s for you. The beach is wonderful and you can choose from the sun beds and parasols with bar service or the quieter area to the right , facing the sea, where it’s less crowded and bars available for drinks. May and September are less crowded and not as scorching hot, average 25 degrees with countless hours of sunshine. Perfect.
There are plentiful amounts of bars and tavernas and you can be assured of a real Greek welcome in all of them. The funniest Greek restaurant owner surely has to be Andreas who owns Siroco. The Basil Fawlty of Skala. Be prepared to be offended in a very humorous way!
There is plentiful accommodation to suit all price ranges. My favoured hotel/apartments is Natalie’s, a short walk up from the Main Street.
It is in the upper end of the price range but wow is it good and worth every euro. The service you get from the Manager Maria and her staff is second to none. The rooms are beautiful and beds so comfy, with self catering cooking available and the cleanliness provided by the cleaning staff first class.
They have their own salt water pool (the only one on the Island I believe) and because there are not a massive amount of apartments is never crowded at all. The pool bar has a wide range of drinks and extensive cocktail menu and open late. Great place to relax and meet new people - or not as you prefer. And no I’m not paid to say this. Just want to share my experience. Website is natalieshotel.com/
My favourite island sight seeing boat trip is with Captain Costas on the Hermes, out of Poros. It’s a family run boat, going back several generations of Kefalonia seafarers. Very friendly Greek folk and you feel like you are part of the family on their large boat, rather than paying guests. There website is www.hermescruises.com/
For sightseeing a car is a must as public transport is not great. Taxis are available though, but not cheap. There are many car hire firms available. My favoured one is Michael Pefanis. No excess insurance or deposit. Never had a problem in five years with this local Greek company.

Hope that helps you. Just come to Kefalonia and you’ll keep coming back. I do
