I am such a fan of the XX. I had a black one years ago. The best bike ever. Don't sell it, man. Even today, this bike looks so sharp. I never had even one tiny issue.....never !!!! I moved to an FJR. If Honda makes them again, I am a customer.
I've had two of these and one with 115+k miles. That motor was just as strong and good as a new motor.. I eventually sold that one and got one 6 years later but with the carbs.. only 18k miles. They're very good bikes.. just make sure to to flush/change the brake fluid every 3 years or so if you retain the linked brakes. Secondary master (on the front left side) has an extremely tiny return hole with filter that will likely need to be cleaned. I did mine in an afternoon and flushed and, added new brake fluid and bleed air out of lines.
I had one, 1998 model, the last of the carburetted ones, and it was absolutely marvelous. Nothing to report wrong with the Blackbird it was perfect. Shame it got stolen...
Yes I agree, the stock screen is really in adequate, the first thing I did was I replaced my stock screen with a Super touring screen, it's much wider and higher, it's terrific. When I ride in rain at 100km/h only the 2 tips of my shoulders get wet. (until you stop, then you're soaked head to toe) also drill some holes in the mounting plate behind your rectifier and put 1/2 inch spacers between rectifier and mounting plate to allow for better cooling of rectifier. That over-ride fan switch is a good idea.
I did the same vfr and buell mod to mine and yes it makes a huge difference. I made the necessary parts on the lathe for the footpgegs, so they function perfectly. I also added a switch for my fan, but what I did was put the switch on the ground side of the fan relay coming out of the computer. (2001). Three things that make this bike even better.
I think BMW is very expensive for maintenance and have a history of electronic failures,. after doing some research I finally bought a Honda Blackbird PGM-F1 fuel injection unit, did a suspension upgrade front and rear and the bike is a high flying mean machine with a precise handling and firm grip and fitted Akrapovic carbon slip-on cans, love it to bits, I saved a lot of money by choosing the big XX all this for less than 4k euros, used market is full of them, and is a bike that experienced riders have owned so you will find them in pretty good condition.
I recently traded for a BMW R1100s and it was beautiful but I was just too nervous with all the reports of final drive issues and premature transmission wear leading to complete overhauls and short intervals for valve adjustments, electrical gremlins and so on. otherwise BMW's are beautiful machines, but I wouldn't own another boxer twin. The dealer network for service is non existent in my area for Beemers too and extremely expensive to repair
Hi just watched this very fine vid again, thanks it's helpful .. I'm a new bird owner...I didn't even know they existed but knew I wanted a bigger machine that could handle luggage and passenger and still tour and have power but still very sporty..well that's a Backbird isn't it? I think it's one of the best bikes ever made. I'll be copying most of your mods you've helped me a lot, thanks again. By the way I'm age 60!
Absolutely adore my Blackbird, I have just fitted Delkivic exhausts to mine.. much lighter and has a sporty bark. Mine is a 2001 with 18762 miles. I really need to add some miles to her this summer.
Great vid, very informative and honest, if you’ve never rode one you don’t know what you’re missing. The power is out of this world. I had one for 3 years and got a vfr1200 which is what the xx should have been i.e abs, shaft drive etc. but it is what it is a killer in the wrong hands if your an idiot whom does not respect it.
my 2 cents..i have had my XX for about 10 years now,and i dont think i'll replace it anytime soon - however, there are some things i have done different than on the vid - handlebars..i didnt go whit the vfr-handles,i got a set of rizers instead, that also makes me adjust the preload on the springs(bought from david silver),the shield..very annoying as a tall rider-i have tried almost every shield out there, including a riced touring-shiled..didnt help,so i did the opposite,i used the stock shield and cut it off about 5 cm,so now i get the wind in the lower chest instead of around/in the helmet..thermostat-switch - yes, this is an issue, but there are sensors to buy that allows the fan to turn on at lower temperatures-i got one that engages the fan at about 90C , and i have also replaced the ctf for a better version(sold by jaws motorcycles,if i dont remember wrong),and i also replaced the charginregulator, sinse it is a common fault..that also have a small 30mm 12V computer-fan mountet on the coolingfan-block , and i also got a higher full-gel seat - oh and also changed the cams to a pair whit higher lift, and offcource the mandatory pc3 ,full stainless system and kn-filter - did 174 bhp on the wheel at the dyno - was 142 stock, and the lagging at 4000 rpm is completely gone
Lovely example of a blackbird, hope you keep it. I like my foot pegs to flip back so if I drag my feet the back of my ankles don't get caught on rigid pegs - can be a leg snapper. Great bike wish mine was as tidy as yours!! Jaws UK sell lots of oem and aftermarket cbr1100xx parts.
I had the same LED pods on my old Yamaha FZ700. Signal Dynamics makes the strobe unit but you can connect it to just about any brake light or aux brake light you wish. My current ride (Triumph Sprint ST 1050) has a license frame with running, stop, and turn LEDs, and the next project is to wire up an SD brake strobe unit to it. That, and replace the horn. . .
The Blackbird is a great bike! An ST on the sporty side. The seat is much more comfy than my CBR600 and CBR900 and easy to roll some miles on. Another great vid and review!
Hi, nice Blackbird. I have also just bought myself a CBR1100XX Super Blackbird.. After years of full on Sports bikes, the CBR is a revelation! I love it! I have fitted bar risers on mine just to take some weight of my wrists. I also ordered yesterday new 'Delkevic' stainless slip on silencers. They are scheduled for delivery tomorrow, so I'm looking forward to seeing how they look..and sound. :) I made a short video of my bike yesterday.. Shows the bar risers.
Love the review but there's a good reason for foot pegs being allowed to flip backwards. It reduces the risk of ankles being snapped should you for some reason get your legs caught between the road and the foot pegs, e.g. In the event of a tank slapper or something. I should downgrade that upgrade.
That’s awesome! I have an R3, adding a FZ6 S2, and a Blackbird to the collection this year. Sounds like you have good taste in bikes. Going to swap out the wheels for Motobox Carbon Fiber Wheels, Zero Gravity Windscreen, and Scorpion Slip-On’s. Want to get the bike jetted too, and remove the DB Killers. Definitely going to grab those VFR clip-ons.
Very nice. Just do something about that switch. A small black button out of sight would be better. Keep those handlebars looking clean. I ride a zx11. My neighbors who are a married couple each had a blackbird and they rode across the USA in them and then to Argentina!
And why does it seem all Honda water cooled motorcycles run hot? I live in Arizona(phoenix) riding a VF1100C and a VT750C(both 1983). I actually bought an aftermarket fan temp control that turns the fan on at 180 degrees instead of the normal 200 degrees. I haven't had a problem since. thanks for the video as I am looking at a CBR1100XX in the near future. Being 45 at 6 foot 1 inches and had back surgery, my back can't handle the cruiser style anymore, so the doctor said it's times to change riding position. I believe the CBR 1100xx is the next ride. Now I have to watch that horse video....
Diggin' that colour. Haven't seen it in the UK yet. The XX is on my list. I thought the VFR was the best bike on the planet, but this one might be better.

Neither are. The ZZR1400 is king. Love the Blackbird but it doesn’t quite match up to the Kwaka.
Damn motorcykle! Have my GSX 750 Inazuma which I`m pretty satisfied with.. Got out with a friend of mine with a cbr 1100 -2001 and he insisted that I would try his bike.. Said and done, 2hours later I knew what I wanted.. 3 weeks later I think of this bike everyday. The handeling, the power and the looks!! Next bike will a cbr 1100!
try riding a current bike if you think this bike is powerful and handles well. because it's an underpowered pig in comparison. fun cruising bike with it's seating position . but handling and power are not is strong suits. even the first busa and zx12r out performed it. a current 600 will do the same
+Mike Labonte your stoned or never rode one, I've had an 03 for 8 years and have ridden busas, zx11's 12's, gixers, R1's, etc, this bike can keep up with and even take down alot of those bikes, so no, your assessment is ridiculous at best. It still accelerates like a rocket from a dead stop, wheelies in any gear and I've taken it north of 190mph many many many times, are you sure your talking about the blackbird? Because you are without a doubt, the first person I've heard say that the bike is underpowered, being that it's a 600lb bike pushing 160 HP, that's more HP than some cars have.
Dennis; Horsepower went from 132.9 to 137 depending on year but yeah you are right that with it's 80 fpt moving it No one that has ridden one would call it a pig. It handles sharp as well.
My dad modified his so the rear tail light had the signal built into it in a shortened post for the license plate so it didn’t have all that funky stuff on it and it had the single D&D with a Black finish
Isn't that interesting. You had mentioned owning an FZ6. That's what I ride atm. Done alot of mods to make it more tour worthy,. but I'm missing the big bore power. Thinking of a BlkBird next as I'm doing alot of long distance riding.
Blackbird is a great bike I'm out of Norfolk Virginia I got the ZX-14 now I had a Hayabusa had a blackbird 2000 that was a great bike that's a good bike to have you did the right thing by the Blackbird it run tender runs a little hot but you did right with that look switch to help keep it cool and stuff that's a great bike and I wish I had kept the one I had and just kept it and still bought milk out so I can 14 I'm a fan of all bikes I have Kawasaki Suzuki Honda R1 ZX11 had about 35 40 x throughout my life on 56 years old 13 years old on bikes in Drag Racing sport cars and Sport trucks and you know all that got me house and I like that you know but anyway you got a good bike take it easy
"So, what do you think (Mr Wayne)?" "Does it comes in... black?" This bike is so amazing and beautiful even for today's standards, specially in dark colours.
I just bought a XX 2001 Japan model. I was told this is restricted due to cat converter and a different cam shaft and change in ecm. The stock 2001 was 164 bhp and 152 bhp. What would the bhp of mine be? Mind you I will be only using/enjoying her in town. God bless you. Cyrus
Hi, beautiful bike!! I have the same in black, 1997 model, and I would like to know, where can I get the same windshield. Looks fantastic and as you say, you dont get wind at the chest anymore. I am from Portugal in Europe and I am looking for a long time exactly for this windshield. Can you help me to get it? Thanks a lot. Stay safe. Bregards. Nuno
May I ask where you bought your Blackbird, and how much you paid? Yours is in perfect condition, and it seems like $5000 is the going price for one in that condition. Thanks
Have youtube done something to your video? The screen was going all wibbly-wobbly like they have tried to stabilise the footage. It's a clean looking machine but I find the standard height screen better. The wind pressure is supposed to take the weight off your wrists.
The strange thing is my carb BB 98` did not get as hot as my 2000 BB with injection. Plus i loved the hand shoke. So u could relax a little at 80km a hour and leave the steering to the bird....O_-
I think the handlebars are perfect original. Same with windshield. I hate to get the wind in my helmet. Much more wind noice then. But everything depends on riding style and body size.
I have just "Bought" (Swapped it for a 2003 BMW 318ti 3 door) one of these, a 1997 model with just over 44,000ks on it (33,000mls Approx), and i'm not sure if I should keep it? My other bike is a 1999 BMW K1200LT, which I have had for a while, and the bike I had before that was a 2013 Suzuki Hayabusa, which I bought new. The Hayabusa was way to fast and powerful for me, (i'm knocking on 60 years old) abd while the BMW is a Fantastic Bike, like most BMW's of that ilk, it lacks soul and excitement. I have ridden the Honda approximately 60 miles, to see how it roade, and if it had anything majorly wrong/dangerous with it, which I am happy to say it doesn't? I haven't owned a Honda Motorcycle in years, the last one being a CB550 way back in I think 1995? The Black Bird id definitely faster than the BMW, (Go Figure), but not nearly as fast as the Hayabusa was?( Way Less Horsepower). The advantages of the BMW are, comfort, (I'm 6ft 6 tall and weigh 225 pounds), Luggage capacity, Weather Protection, low Ks/Miles(It's just about to turn over 30,000ks or 20,000 miles), no chains to worry about,Fuel Injection over Carburettors, and higher resale value. The downside of it compared to the Honda is the weight of it compared to the Honda, the extra power the Honda has compared to the BMW, and, once I get used to the Honda, the added Fun Factor? Should I sell the Honda and Keep the BMW, or Sell the BMW and keep the Honda? Perhaps I need to do some more miles on the Honda before making up my mind?
I noticed your rear axle is in backwards,is there a reason for that?does it make it easier to put the wheel back on after a tire change.I checked the book.
What model year is yours? Also, does the fairing do a good job or keeping your legs and body protected from the wind? I am looking for one. Also, it seems that when after market exhausts are added, that the center stand must need to be removed?
Hey, can u tell me what kind of ram-mount you got on the XX. I'm searching for something like that. Do you know the seller or brand? Greetings from Germany.
hey mate ,I don't suppose you could send me some info on installing vfr bars on my blackbird. I've picked up a pair and would love to know about the tab removal on the master cylinder
I'm sorry but I believe this is either a 1997 or 98 model. In '99 the dash was upgraded to have digital speedo on the right but yours is still analog so I do not think you have a 2000 model. But, awesome bike nevertheless
Matt Garrison Yes, it's 10x better than than the stock screen and directs the air higher relatively well with no buffeting and I'm about 5'11", well worth the $70
I am such a fan of the XX. I had a black one years ago. The best bike ever. Don't sell it, man. Even today, this bike looks so sharp. I never had even one tiny issue.....never !!!! I moved to an FJR. If Honda makes them again, I am a customer.
Wish honda would do a new super sport tourer. 1100 to 1300cc 215hp kinda thing.
I bought one new in 2000 in hade a bad accident in 2001 miss that bike..
Still got a black one, 2001 with 55k miles. She’s going strong, whenever tempted to change it, I take her out and realise how good it really is.
@@BRMCaptChaos Indeed.
Mine is the 99 carb. I love it and it's still the fastest production carb bike made.
Yes I agree, the stock screen is really in adequate, the first thing I did was I replaced my stock screen with a Super touring screen, it's much wider and higher, it's terrific. When I ride in rain at 100km/h only the 2 tips of my shoulders get wet. 99/2000 best models, analogs beautiful.
One of the best sport-touring bikes in the world!!!
I agree!
Roma Blackbird 100% agree. They are the best. Even by today's standards
Good.sportsbikes. very uncomfortable for touring in my opinion
Are still the best on my second one 😍
Very nice indeed. I have a full bike licence but not been used for about 23 yrs. These blackbirds get the old juices flowing...
very clean for 40k miles, previous owners must've cherished it. as they say, some of the nicest people ride a Honda.
Great video, she is a beauty - I'm on my second, I just love them - She is a smooth, effortless sports touring missile. Ride safe.
The bike looks great and I love the version with the analog dash. It’s a keeper 👍🏻
Hi just watched this very fine vid again, thanks it's helpful .. Lovely looking bike and the colour is very nice. Honda all the way brother!!
Safe riding.
That paint is perfect, really suits the bike.
Great bikes. I've toured a lot in Europe on one of these.
That, and replace the horn. . .

I have a 2002.... 36000. still one of the best bikes outhere! nice bike dude
I keep the clip ons on my blackbird standard as the riding position is fairly comfortable
very VERY impressive bike. i love how you can tell its well taking care of. keep up the good work. cbr919RR.
Those exhausts look great. If only they still made D&D exhausts for the Blackbird.
You're my type of dude! You like the blackbird, the Connie, and you like guns too? You seem pretty all right, man!
hello I have this bike, almost exactly. the brake/turn signal mod would clean up the rear. nice bike.
I made a short video of my bike yesterday.. Shows the bar risers.

Gorgeous... there is no way this level of finesse can be matched by any sportbike today. Motorcycling eye candy.
Super clean ride! I have an 03 BlackBird, black. Two Brothers instead of D&Ds. I thought you weren't going to fire it up! Sounds great!
Nice bike, the cbr1100xx is one of my favorite bikes of all time ,like the glock keychain (makarov's are nice too =D ) good vid :)
Had one for 7 years awesome
I recommend you get a hugger to keep the rear shock etc. Nice and clean. Nice bike.
Very nice. Just do something about that switch. A small black button out of sight would be better. Keep those handlebars looking clean. I ride a zx11. My neighbors who are a married couple each had a blackbird and they rode across the USA in them and then to Argentina!
Gorgeous bike! Thanks for sharing your upgrades with us!
Extremely well taking care of,thanks for sharing!!!!

Very nice specimen, like those lowered footpegs. I did same thing with clipons on my 600
Gorgeous bike. Love that sweet licence plate cover too 😉

respect brother
Très belle moto, couleur très jolie
I have a 99 and I love it....
Pick of the blackbirds !!!

"So, what do you think (Mr Wayne)?"

This bike is so amazing and beautiful even for today's standards, specially in dark colours.
Watch out for the rectifier, first thing to go in Honda big bikes
I love this bike!!
Great idea this switch going to do this conversion now
Beautiful machine dude!
great video !! love the bike
One thing I tell everyone, the 2010-13 Honda VFR1200F is the new Blackbird. It’s an amazing bike with fantastic power
great looking bike 2thumbs up!!
Clip ons from vfr,...what about the cables etc? Are they long enough?
Never heard of "Power Bronze" windscreens. Vero Gravity are some of the best quality screens you can buy.
Superbikestore sells them, better quality than Zero Gravity
Weeee.. i just got a CBR1100 to day :) nice bike... but sadly its a 1997, but 75.000 km. ..
Cyrus
very nice, I've got a '98 in the same colour . . . the only upgrade it needs is a better pilot
Stay safe. Bregards. Nuno
beautiful colour !
So u could relax a little at 80km a hour and leave the steering to the bird....O_-
Fuel injected blackbirds get ridiculously hot, but perform a little better, and burn less fuel
I think the handlebars are perfect original. Same with windshield. I hate to get the wind in my helmet. Much more wind noice then. But everything depends on riding style and body size.
Watching your video made me go off and buy new frame plugs and bar ends...damn you ;-)
i fell in love with it, i also love the 89ZX10 tho?
very nice bike
Your sample looks sweet. May I ask - how would the bird work for someone who's in shape but somewhat sensitive to spine shocks from pot holes?
This bike love gas, that's for sure
Awesome bike. What is the colour, Titanium?
Was the power bronze the dark tint one or light grey you have. Hard to see in video. Think its the light grey yey.
Did you have to change any of the brake lines or other cables when you fitted the VFR bars ? or was it just bolt on and go?
Hey, can u tell me what kind of ram-mount you got on the XX. I'm searching for something like that. Do you know the seller or brand? Greetings from Germany.
very good bike
Nice job man :-)
This will be a strange question. Is there a trick to getting that accent piece on the Power Bronze Screen?
great vid, thankyou... im new to your channel, did you sell your concourse for the blackbird? im trying to decide myself which bike to go for. cheers.
俺も乗ってましたよ 最高の一台ですよね 気をつけてバイクライフを…。
I like your bikes, very clean. Btw, how many motos you have? Thanks for sharing.
2000 blue one here. Hi guys. What's the name of that round thing that you can use for clipping in a phone/satnav/GPS on it?
I have vfr handels on may CBR 600F2. Work greate, comfortable.
hey mate ,I don't suppose you could send me some info on installing vfr bars on my blackbird.
I've picked up a pair and would love to know about the tab removal on the master cylinder
Hello Andrew, where did you manage to get your VFR bars matey? Just bought a bird & defo need some.
nice work
awesome bike
I like that Glock!
I'm sorry but I believe this is either a 1997 or 98 model. In '99 the dash was upgraded to have digital speedo on the right but yours is still analog so I do not think you have a 2000 model. But, awesome bike nevertheless
did you ever find out the brand and name of the pulsating brake lights?
Hi. I'm trying to install manual switch on my blackbird for radiator fan but i don't know how to. Can you please help me out? Thanks
Do you find that the fairing does a good job of keep the wind off you?
Matt Garrison
Yes, it's 10x better than than the stock screen and directs the air higher relatively well with no buffeting and I'm about 5'11", well worth the $70
How about the fairing itself. Keeping air off your legs and torso?
