Ildır, where unique coves and fish restaurants with delicious tastes are located, is connected to İzmir-Çeşme highway via Ovacık via the south route, to Ilıca and Çeşme via the west route, and Balıklı Ova via the northern route.
It is thought that the ancient name of Ildır, Erythrai, derives from Erythros, meaning "red" in Greek, and that Erythra was used in the sense of "Red City" because of the red color of the city's soil. According to another assumption, the city got its name from Erythros, the son of the first founder, Cretan, Rhadamanthes.
