Quarantine Island in Urla; The island, which was used in the fight against infectious diseases during the Ottoman Empire, took its name from the quarantine facilities built by the French in 1865. The 323-acre island, including the ruins of the ancient city of Klazomenai, was connected to land for the first time during the reign of Alexander the Great. While the ancient connections were destroyed over time, the filling areas were built in 1955.
