This conflict between mind and nature is still going on. And i have come to believe that the propensity of a human being to choose between the two depends on the person.and the way he or she was born. This is also the basis of casteist segregation and conflict within hinduism i believe. However,notice in hindu casteism there are 4 categories with according to my understanding these are the explanations: 1.The Brahmin - implementor of the mind. 2. The Kshatriya - The The custodian of the mind. 3. The Vaishya - The implementor of matter. 4. The shudra - The custodian of matter/body. This dichotomy can be roughly be segregated geograohically into fair skinned Eurasians comprising the first two categories of people and the dark skinned Africans and others comprising of last two categories of people. This conflict is visible in western world too with southern middle eastern people and african people representing the last two categories while Northern middle eastern, european and Asians representing the first two. This is visible in differences between north america and rest of americas too.
