I've always like this piece, have played it a few times. But I think Ireland should have backed off a bit on some of the altissimo sections.
I’m currently planning my senior recital, just listened to the first 30 seconds. Big no for me 😂😂
As someone that knows this piece intimately Ireland’s use of the full range of the instrument is up there with the best of them. He had in Fredrick Thurston the best of British clarinet playing in the first half of the 20th C.
Could have used a British player…
