I’m playing the whole song for a solo contest in March, and I’m in love with every note! I just started learning the 5th movement a week ago. It’s pretty hard but it’s nice to have a challenge! 😊
This video really helped me to figure out the speed I need to play it at and I can follow it as well my own copy , thank you for this , I’m playing this for my grade 6
How in all my years of playing clarinet did I never hear of this piece? After 40 years of playing very infrequently I think I could actually learn some of these!
Such a beautiful piece, especially Romance and Forlana ~ I remember listening to my clarinety professor in college play this at a faculty recital. Great recording and thank you!!
I remember playing the first movement, and third movement back in 7th grade for a solo competition. It was a class one, so it was a difficult solo, considering we only had 1-2 years of experience. Now as a freshman, it’s crazy to think our marching music is quite a bit harder than the two movement, and don’t even get me started on the regional etudes. I am now currently working on Viktor’s Tale by John Williams, which is also much more difficult than the two movements I played back in 7th grade. Good times, to anyone having to preform this, good luck.
The piece has 6 beats in a bar, but the grouping of those beats (melodically) are either 3 groups of 2 (like in the first 5 bars) or 2 groups of 3 (at bar 6). Part of the feel of the piece is the gentle alternation of these two groupings...sometimes even different between clarinet and piano (i.e. clarinet is doing 2 of 3, while piano is 3 of 2). It wouldn't make sense to change the time signature from 3/2 (when it's 3 of 2) to 6/4 (when it's 2 of 3) every few bars (in different parts). Putting both 'options' up front indicates that whichever is most appropriate is the 'option'. Remember music is fluid, like language, and the shift from 2 of 3 to 3 of 2 (and back again) is quite subtle - especially in a flowing and gentle movement like this. I hope this helps
If you end up liking it, I highly, HIGHLY recommend looking up his op. 10 work, Eclogue for piano and strings. It is one of the most beautiful chamber works I’ve heard
I love the part where the piano and the clarinet make sounds
Mine too!
That's my favourite!
Is this the type of music a freshman clarinet major would play for his recital?
Realy?? I think that part IS cool but no so much HAHAHAHAHAH
Oh your a smart guy
Not me literally bawling my eyes out for the second movement
One of the most touching recordings I have ever heard.

Try the fifth movement lol
It depends @@andrewtang5761

Same
well in that case the clarinet part is easier than the piano - you wouldn't get any grade 6 piano students anywhere near it!
This was for my level 5 solo! (Out of 6 levels)
@@treeman10 did you get on with it . Did it go well
@@jepl6985 yes it is easier but just you wait until the play the clarinet parts for the other finzi pieces

Best thing that has ever touched my ears. Thank you, Michael Collins!
Amazing that he had the time to record this whilst liberating Ireland

Such beautiful music to play and listen to. I wouldn't mind having it stuck in my head all day.
the forlana did 🙂

I'm playing Romance and Forlana for a solo competition, they're my favorite!
Ethereal, playful, wistful, reflective et melodic. Finzi's 5 Bagatelles est magnifique !
I'm thinking about playing the second movement for my solo this year! I absolutely fell in love with every note from the moment I played it❤

I performed Viktors Tale by John Williams last semester for our clarinet studio recital. I am now on this piece. Alot easier, I have to agree.
@@clarinetmaster4649 Now I basically just shot my self in the foot, because I agreed to preform Solo De Concours by A. Messenger for a gig.
@@ClarinetEnthusiast LOL, have fun with the cadenza ~~ Ricardo Morales' recording on French Portraits is great

I’m learning this as a senior at U of Mississippi! :)
How lovely!

Gosh I’m not that good at piano and probably can’t play this and I have a duet with my older sister on thissssss
4:55 - Romance (B section - Poco piú mosso)
Sounds magical when played at ~431hz
I think it sounds better at A = 440Hz
~ 448 Hz is sublime too!
i swear listening to it at 1.25 speed makes everything more lit
I’m playing the prelude for solo & ensemble :)
Playing these as part of my diploma next term :)

I was thinking the same........ perhaps a few metronome ticks slower
It's marked (about) crotchet = 60 -- which is pretty well exactly what they're playing. Easy to check with a clock!
