I see your point because this show Eddie is traditionally played by a African American but that's the thing about Theater if you fit the tone of the song just the way it's supposed to be sung you can play the part like dont get me wrong there are ton of shows that are strictly only people of color such as Miss Saigon ,The Color Purple, and Once On this Island.
