In a nutshell: A modder has turned a rare PS1 controller from 2001 into a fully-working portable PlayStation. The man behind the new console is well-known Japanese modder Hairo Satoh, who calls himself the "Gameboy Doctor" in an apparent nod to his Game Boy mods that have made him a hit with retro gaming enthusiasts on social media.
Satoh shared a video of his new creation on Instagram (via Dexerto), showing off the handheld PlayStation console running Mega Man 8, also known as Rockman in Japan. Another post shows the console playing games like Resident Evil Survivor, known in Japan as Biohazard Gun Survivor, as well as The Contra Adventure.
To create the new handheld PlayStation, Satoh used Takara's Roulette controller that was released exclusively in Japan in 2001 alongside the PS1 title Game of Life. The homemade console has a small LCD display embedded within the 'Wheel of Fortune' spinner at the top. Other additions by Satoh include an SD card slot, L&R back triggers, a volume dial, dual stereo speakers, and a USB-C port for charging the battery.

Push Square readers took part in a rather heated debate last week. We asked our audience whether they actually care about games hitting 60 frames-per-second on PS5 - a conversation that's exploded over the last few months thanks to a number of titles launching with shoddy technical performance. And now, the results are in.
With over 6,000 votes cast in our poll, it would seem that a majority of PS5 players believe that 60fps is incredibly important. 36% said "all PS5 games should hit 60fps" and that there's "no excuse". A further 27% said that 60fps should always be the target on PS5. So that's a total of 63% saying that 60fps is a must on Sony's current-gen console.
Next, 19% said 30fps isn't a dealbreaker - although they still prefer 60. Then, just 14% said they don't care what the frame rate is, as long as it's consistent. And finally, only 5% of voters said they simply don't give a damn about frame rates. Hey, fair enough.
Now, there is a caveat here in that we, as a website, obviously appeal to a more hardcore demographic. We suspect that there are a huge number of PS5 players who don't even know what a frame rate is to begin with. And that's fine! But we can only poll the people that we poll, and the results are somewhat one-sided.
A higher frame rate is one of those things where once you're used to it, it's difficult to go back. And with the PS5, most games at least offer an optional performance mode, favouring 60fps over graphical enhancements. If it gets to a point where that's no longer possible, or it's diminished in some way, there's going to be a backlash - at least from the hardcore crowd.

Michael Pachter has opined that the PlayStation and Nintendoexclusives model is “wrong” and “broken.” In an episode of Pachter Factor, the veteran analyst suggested that Microsoft is taking the correct approach by bringing some of its games to other platforms while keeping others exclusive.
“The Nintendo model and the Sony model of proprietary titles on proprietary platforms is the wrong model. It’s a broken model,” Pachter said. “Supporting your content by managing the distribution on your platform is like a movie studio owning a chain of movie theaters and the only way you can watch their movie is in their theaters.”

Standard frame rate for movies is set to 24fps so anything above 30fps may not matter for consumption of video content, but for games 60fps is much more important. I agree that 30fps is acceptable if the game runs smooth and feels good, it's just more noticable when you are playing a game that requires precise timing and is constantly dropping frames and has jitters or screen tearing that makes it unplayable.

60fps is a must, for years I’ve suffered with headaches/migraines when playing on consoles. That doesn’t happen when I play games at 60fps so I always now play at performance mode or don’t buy it if that isn’t an option.
😂 Get a PC, then you can go well above 60 fps.
@@ChoochDaBooch that’s what I’ve always done, but when my last one completely died I couldn’t be arsed to 1: Build a new one. 2: it would be far more money to buy a pc that can do what a console does consistently as games can be quite hit and miss performance wise on pc, especially at a cheaper build level and 3. At 47 I prefer to have something that I can just plug into my tv with little hassle 🤷🏼♂️

You said in the beginning of your video talking about hand-held, and yes, it's old but red magic 9 pro. I think it hands down is great, especially with custom triggers, strategically placed, and custom cooling systems it's doing pretty well. I wish I could afford it personally, lol😂. I don't specifically know if you already talked about you but you probably know and I currently have 3ds and other emulator plus let go of GameCube and Sega Dreamcast on my cellphone have 100gb to about 115gb out of 128gb systems and upgrades and other things.

You are right the original ff7 is one of the greatest games ever made. The ff7 demake and ff7 debirth did no justice to the original game just like resident evil 2 3 and 4 demakes did no justice to those original games.

There should be specific criteria for what they can charge for a game. A 10hr story playthrough game shouldn't be allowed to be $60 when there are HUGE RPGs that give 100s of hours for the same price. I hate that so much, and no matter how I feel about those smaller games, I always have a sense of disappointment upon completion, because it was soooo much less game for the same price as a Final Fantasy or Horizon like game
Tbh every game should have an option for 120fps and hit a minimum of 60fps in 2024. Pc gamers can hit those with ease many years ago
Yes, but they are doing it with hardware that's infinitely more powerful.
The Xbox and PlayStation 5 are essentially just laptop SoCs. For the price and size they are very impressive systems but they're just never going to compete with Even a moderately built PC.
But they also start at 499 and you aren't going to get $499 PC that can play games like a PS5 without some tricky scrounging and maybe some good used deals.
Remember the PlayStation 5 and Xbox are essentially running Zen 2 CPUs and RDNA 2 graphics. The ryzen 3000 series released in mid 2019.... So it's already 5 years old.
People are just going to have to accept that they're going to be limitations on consoles.

I think it's awesome and I loved Resident Evil but we had yhe PSP and the PS Vita which is what I was playing RE3 on. It's cool temporarily but you can't really expand on anything so you see what happened to the PSP and Vita so that'll happen to this handheld too
Weird I had WAY more stutter in FF16 than I did in DD2 and I have both Platinumed.

I'm in that group of I don't care if it's 30 or 60 but it has to hit that 30 or 60 constantly
I don’t care if a game operates even in the middle of that range, consistency is what matters most. I don’t even mess with Performance Mode or anything like that either. I’m fine with the 4K as well.
Many people don’t understand how life used to be like where it was difficult to even get an HDTV. I’m very grateful to where things are at now to even having the opportunity for 4K resolution where that never used to be a thing since 1080p was the biggest tier with HD for a long time.
Sadly the entire FPS discussion is typically argued rather nonsensically, because people do not fully understand the issue, including the arguments made here in this video.
Cinema only has 24 fps and there is nothing wrong with that.
Motion and quick movements on cinema screens look smooth and perfectly fine for the human eye at these 'low' 24 fps.
The reason why this is so, is simply because each frame is slightly blurred from the object's movement during the frame exposure time.
Games and digital simulations typically do NOT emulate this motion blur correctly and instead calculate perfectly sharp still images/frames with 0 'exposure time' so to say.
This 'problem' is in principle the exact same reason why video cameras typically make better video recordings at 24FPS, than a photo camera taking a series of high speed still images at much higher framerates which are then played back as video clip.
Each image the photo camera takes will of course look significantly better than each frame the video camera records, yet the movement of the photo series played back as a clip appears choppy to the eye due to the lack of motion blur in each of the images.
Higher frame rates do not fully fix the issue of lack of motion blur in each frame, they just make it less notable to the human eye.
A digital simulation, movie or game that produces frames with correct motion blur can produce a significantly better visual experience at much lower framerates than all those games calculating perfectly clear still images for each frame at ridiculously high framerates to compensate for the lack of motion blur in each frame.

Everything was good except for the part where he said that there wasn't the same person owning multiple consoles cuz yeah I had like five of them I think. I also knew a lot of people who had several of them for various reasons. I had one for my my living room my bedroom my office the party room in the backyard and I had one to float around. So yeah!

I see the difference up to at least 240 fps. I have a monitor and switch between 60, 120, 144 and 240 depending on what my PC can get for the game. I can see the frame rate difference between all. 60 should be the bare minimum. 30 is unbearable unless it is smooth but anything at 30 usually isn't.
Xbox is just better then ps5 the quick resume is much better and overall performance of the xbox is so much stronger
I play COD at 120fps faithfully I tried to play helldivers at 30 because the graphics are bad and couldn't do it

I had a PS5 for 2 weeks it's not a good console in my opinion same with Xbox just to much cross play that makes any multiplayer game almost unplayable if you're not a professional Spider-Man was great though until I replayed dying light one on switch and realized it's the same thing but one is for kids and the other is for adults

I've been more and more and more getting out of Gaming with online multiplayer and games as a disservice garbage infecting everything. I disagree. Most single-player games are 30fps, and that's fine because you don't really need 60fps for something like arkham Knight. It would be nice but it's manageable. Now, if it's like a shooter/fighting game, then it has to be 60fps

Since it costs more to create new consoles and it costs to make new games and izn turn the games cost considerably more for us as consumers we should be getting the best bang for our buck because they constantly tell us about the power they are working with then we buy 80 dollar games that don't reflect that and we are getting tired of the excuses because they don't hesitate to take our money or charge us more
And something tells me these studios aren't optimizing their costs as well as they can be.
Sure it's more expensive but I feel like some companies are charging high prices for their hardware just because they can, not because its actually that expensive. And so it ultimately falls on the customer, because the studio just accepts that cost and doesn't ask any questions because it gives them an excuse to charge more for their game, on top of microtransactions
