You could do a polymorphic association for the tags, so that you can have different tag to documents inside your collections inside the same table. That would also allow you to normalise how you handle tags and any extra metadata the user could add to those tags inside that collection. Loving these blog series, honestly it makes me want to start too, thanks for the inspiration!
