Tbh, I think you did best knuckling down for the first 6-7 months and knocking the smaller debts out of the park, even if you did go a bit heavy on the purchases for a month or two afterwards. You didn’t save so much, sure, but most importantly you didn’t go back into debt. I reckon my budget generally gets a refresh every 3 or 4 months because things do change within our finances, that’s just life. You have a nice luxury collection to really enjoy too. 😊
I don’t think you did anything wrong, as you know I have a real interest in personal finance, and I think anything that causes you to assess your finances and manage them is a success. Even when you finished and then when on a bit of a splurge, having focused on personal finance for a while, you reflected on your spending again very quickly. That is a successful take away and at the end of the day, we have to live and indulge in the things we love. And also, personal finance and really learning money management in my opinion is a learning curve, you are further up that curve now for long term money management. I made so many mistakes along the way and I’m still in no way perfect, but I definitely have a better handle on it from going through it all.
Thank you Amelia. I agree. I learned a lot through this experience and will continue to do so because of it. I was able to identify areas of opportunity through this experience.
Other than handbags, my current favorite topic is budgeting, so I love this video. Nice reflection, and it’s okay to make mistakes as long as we learn from them. It’s what life is, really. You’ve done well!
Thank you and I couldn’t agree more. It was really eye opening to see how going back to over consumption made me feel. Sometimes that’s what it takes for me to fully devote to a change.
I think you did well to stick to your hard rules for so long - I stopped smoking cold turkey (what we say here when you do something hard 😂😂) and I think it’s the best way to shift your habits. Everyone is in a different season of life - my husband and I have been through the blended family, we paid off our mortgage and now we have a moment of luxury. We’re looking for a new place that will come with a big mortgage and things will change and that’s going to be fun and probably mean less bags, but so be it!
I don’t think you did anything wrong. Life is an experience. This experience has taught you a lesson. Don’t be hard on yourself. A little indulgence is okay in moderation.
It’s delightful to see how you stay true to your and your family needs, as well as how you respect your audience and share, while maintaining your boundaries.
Love how open you are about this. I never set rules as I feel there are too many factors that may change things as time goes on. I like to be in the moment. It’s much more freeing x
Thank you for this realistic & heartfelt conversation! I’ve always wondered how some RUclipsrs can afford so much luxury 😳 I think it’s unrealistic to keep up without being in some serious debt unless you have endless amount of money. I want to be able to sleep at night!
I’ve always been conscious of how much money I’m spending on luxury. I don’t ever want to go into extreme debt over something as trivial as a handbag. However, for me to afford luxury, that means I have to give up other luxuries in life which I shared in today’s video. I’m at a point where I’m really happy and satisfied with my luxury collection and can focus on other areas in life. I’m really excited to see what brings to the table.
I totally understand where you coming from. Can say you know now how you want to move forward. Luxury desire can leave and does BUT that just means increase in another area. Can’t wait to see the home improvements. TFS…
Great topic Mel. I think you touched on a lot of great highlights in this video. 1st you learned from your low buy, which is a success in my book. 2nd people have a distorted idea of what reality looks like in most peoples homes.
I am the same way!! I over indulge after a no buy 😅 luckily I’ve been better at it. Bought a house a month ago and needed to strap down this past/upcoming year!
Well you did it once and it was a learning experience! For me it actually works best to completely focus on one thing at a time. I like your idea of the budget for the year. You won’t regret investing in your home imho
Melissa do not be so hard on yourself. You were able to accomplish your goals with your “low buy” so kudos to you and congrats. Yes it is smart to re-focus on your home and you are correct…most of us can not do both..in fact going into to debt to consume luxury is just bot financially prudent. No Karan or CC debt for any of my purchases period. SO forcing myself to save cash for my purchases really slows me down…..the urge is always constant…there will always be new bags…it is impossible to keep up. I am at 45 bags and that is more than enough so if I bring in something new…something else has to go. I can barely carry what I have and am toying with the idea to do down to 35 bags. I think many of us just have too much stuff. I am happy to see you invest in your home. That is the gift that keeps on giving….a lovely cozy home is a real treat so go for it and enjoy!
I completely understand what you mean. When we say we are going to do a no-buy or low-buy we HAVE to have a plan. When we fail to plan, we plan to fail. It’s super important to know what we are gonna do and the why. This was a great topic and can be extremely helpful to anyone trying to refrain from purchasing. Which is SO hard to do. At least for me. 😂
Great video thanks for sharing. We are only human. I did a shop my closet handbag challenge for the whole of May this year where i use a different bag each day & had a bag buying ban for that month. I have bought 3 bags earlier in the year. But as soon as i finished my bag challenge, i bought 4 more bags 🫣🙃 now i am on pause and doing my best not to buy anymore this year, its not easy. Im looking forward to your home improvement videos, good luck with that❤
Girl i feel your pain. I have over spent so much this year out of complete stress. I feel so regretful. Now im going to Florida for 3 days and thinking about returning this Rogue i just purchased.
@MelissaAdams-Wade it's so beautiful. It's peony with tea roses. I'm sure I can find it again. I did purchase from ebay. I do have the return label already. I just need to pull the trigger. I paid 930 after all said and done. That's a pretty penny.
Your videos are so realistic 🥹💞 this is what we need 🫶🏼 and it’s true I am in a place now, that I love having our home beautiful for us, is what I love more than handbags at this moment 🥹 I bought a new bag and I love it but I’m not that excited to do an unboxing etc I am more exiting on decorating my house for fall hahaha so please show us your home renovations 🥹💖💕😊
I am, by no means, giving you financial or low buy advice. I’m simply sharing what I learned through my experience and what I could have done better.
Anything that makes us stop and take stock is a good thing. It's WAYYYYYY too easy to get carried away with this luxury frippery! 🤗
You can say that again 🤣.

I can so relate! We’re in the process of setting money aside for home renovations like roof repair and less spending🤦♀️
Roof repairs are so expensive. I’m sorry you have to do that. It will be rewarding once it’s done. 🤍
