Fast hands, Cycles Freak. You have mastered this instrument. This is a great demonstration of what it can do, with a skilled player. Best wishes for your continued success.
Great to see someone using this as a musical instrument with a lot of skill getting a huge range of timbres and sounds from this little box of joy. I have yet to add my Model Cycles to my set up- I hear it plays nicely with the Digitakt (I love my Digitakt)!
Very cool new instrument! I've learned that you could give Dataline a cowbell and he would make it sound like Aphex Twin! I really loved the vibes of the second song, brought back memories of Radioheads Kid A album. You know Thom is going to figure one of these into his songs.
DANIELSSON Well for him he is performance and album centric. He has been at Elektron for a long time. He has this thing probably for months before some youtube reviewer. So he’s a mac who does play out rather than just post here and he gets early dibs.
When I did my maths gcse back in the 80s I thought I should spice it up a bit. So I coloured the front and buttons of my calculator with black marker pen. Not knowing what each button did made finding the right answers a bit more of a challenge. I’m imagining that Cenk uses those stickers in a similar way.
This is great for the dance floor and I like the sounds that come out of it. I’m considering to buy this to replace the drummer in my experimental punk band but can’t find any videos of people using it in context with a guitar etc. Maybe someone can point me somewhere? Cheers
reminds me 20 years ago when we used to watch autechre live sessions on electron boxes. this gear has always been great for live play. this here guy is using a 300 euros beatbox with six channels and it's heavy. the only thing i'm afraid of (but we will see with time if it's the case) is that this kind of fm synth machine might not be versatile enough when it commes to the sounds it can make. i heard a guy playing neurofunk with one, but it was still in that kind of metalic resonant dark ambiant sonar palette.
With one lfo and no filter, theres compromises to be made. Also nothing like notch filters in it. Have to be a creative to get neuro going on this one. But its pretty amazing little box. Makes some earth shattering kickdrums and basses too 😃
Beautiful compostions and execution. The Cycles and Sample seem like good cheaper alternatives to digitakt and digitone, but I think I still want that Digitakt.
When these came out I had zero interest because I saw them as the fisher price of Elektron but at $300 they’re actually pretty appealing. Even the lowest tier Elektron gear is still far superior
Super model: cycles set. Really great work. I didn't see any pattern changes - was this filmed in separate takes for each song or is the set all cueued up with song mode? Inspirational stuff.
Sounds nice but it doesn't really bring anything new to me as a long time Elektron collector of their larger machines. Great way for newcomers to dip their toes though without breaking the bank. Can this do multi-timbrality (aka synth patch change/flip) on a single sequencer track?
This is probably the best model cycles jam out here. Crazy composition, mad performance, amazing live play variations. Great job indeed! One little question: the compression ducking effect starting at 4:15 is achieved in post production right? Or did you somehow find a way to do it directly on the cycles itself?
I've had mine for a few weeks now, and I can confirm that the T1-T6 Track Pad velocity sensitivity is not good (the 16 Trigger pads, though not velocity sensitive, have a nice light touch). Hitting the T1-T6 Track Pads, hard enough to get a sound out of them, makes my finger and wrist joints, hurt after a short while (quick way to get carpal tunnel syndrome). The minimum threshold, for just getting them to trigger at all, is way to high for me. I have developed a few workarounds for this... 1) Go into the Pad/Vel Menu, and leave the Fix-OFF, then turn the VDep, all the way down to 0. This keeps the volume of each track pad hit, loud, while still allowing the modulation destination, to respond to velocity. (NOTE: if you set Fix to a number, then the modulation destination, no longer responds to velocity). (NOTE: Pad settings only effect the T1-T6 Track Pads, and have no effect on the 16 Trigger Pads, the 16 Trigger Pads always send max velocity). 2)If you want to use the Track Pads for velocity, use a yarn/felt covered marimba mallet, or some other soft, heavy item, to smash the Track Pads with. 3) Forget about Velocity on the Track Pads, and only use them for selecting the active track. Then use the 16 Trigger Pads, for recording your hits. This has three advantages: First, it will save your finger and wrist joints. Second, it allows you to vary the pitch of your triggers. And Last, all your triggers will sound a max velocity, even with a light touch (you can change the volume of each hit manually afterword). Until (if ever) Elektron releases a firmware update to address this problem, I hope these workarounds help.
@@kristianburghard1955 if you become familiar with an instrument like this you dont need the knob names after a while. I admit it is more impressive for an elektron product as it involves a lot of menu diving, but all the same.
Move the swing/nudge knob while holding a trig step on your kick track to shift it off the grid towards a triplet. Or, press the retrig button while holding a step to open the retrig menu, turn retrig on, set rate to 1/3 or 1/12 and adjust length.
Wow. This one is being received much more well than the samples isn’t it. Pretty cheap unit to get Elektron style sequencing, 6 midi tracks, and now fm based synthesis. Would pair so well with an opz.
What's weird is I LOVE my M:S. It's a beast. This seems pretty underwhelming to me though. Wish there was more attention to synthesis and not just drum sounds.
Do you know if you can create a multitrack sequence using your DAW? Basically using various MIDI In channels to control individual tracks/instruments? Love your channel!
Oh my fuck. I didn't think I needed this but...ughhhh I was going to buy a behringer cat but...this is next I think Was this made with all internal sounds?
After watching this video, my Digitone just sits in the corner and refuses to make eye contact with me :)
Hahaha! Watch Ricky Tinez review of M.cycles , he has a similar moment
@@ShawTobias ahah, yeah, just watched it too
Both great machines, dn is deeper I prefer it
Just use both, and a subh, and a dfam, and two zoom pedals and bridge with circuit tracks running a freak and a td3mo...
An absolutely perfect set of music. Nice that it also shows off the new instrument, but the music is sublime in and of itself.
it's not a set, it's different pieces and video mounting ;)

Dataline is killing it on the Model:Cycles!
Even when your tones are soft, you go so hardcore on these machines! Hats off to you sir!
One of the most musical and creative electronic music minds out there. Well done Sir Cenk! Love the Model Cycles. FM for lyfe!
Damn. This is my favorite jam on the Cycles so far. Well done and thanks.
This song is just too good! One of the very few product demos that I return to because I like the song.
I think you have driven this machine to 110% of its capabilities. Very impressive, congratulations
I love how you go through cycles, no pun intended, of smoothing it out and bringing it back just meander your way back into something crazy haha.
Inspirational. Great set. If I buy one, it will be because of this performance. No other review inspired me so far.
Ordered one tonight from Guitar Center, based on Red Means Recording demo video and this one.
You are great at making me want to buy one when i know I personally won’t be able to get anywhere close to your level
one of the ONLY electronic musicians that knows his idiom and does it in a musically interesting way
beautiful performance on a beautiful piece of gear

super tempo! strong rythm....
with a touch of electronic sounds - cool!
Fantastic demo, much further than I thought this machine could go. You are a maestro of electronica.
The playing and mastery of The Elektron Model Cycles By MR.Dataline Was UNPRECEDENTED JUST AMAZING HIS Decoration Of said Groove Box 🤢🤮
Sounds pretty amazing! Think this looks like a great instrument for live performance. Simple and tweakable!
By far, this is the BEST PERFORMANCE I'VE EVER SEEN! This machine will release a new genre. Keep up the good work!
agree
I've always thought this machine could be a little Rian Treanor factory - here's the proof! Amazing work, nice one
Sounds like that kid who plays a video game at an arcade, pressing all buttons concurrently to win the round
I hear alittle of my Digitone in there. Nice!!! Hope they add that retrig to the DT! Awesome stuff
I guess the song at 8:00 shows that some pad sounds have attack on them, even though there is no attack knob.
