  • This video I take the orchid lamp 3d print from my last video and metal cast it. I had a couple failures but in the end we end up with a very cool cast!

Let me know what you think and if there is a 3d print you'd like to see cast.

Nice work, I like your setups style, simple and effective. Casting metal is always cool, I miss that.

Dang, this turned out so cool! Makes me want to step it up from sand casting.

Cool; I'd love to see it with a lamp, candle or other light source inside of it :)

Well you are doing what i want to do for a long time now.
I was thinking about the M16 trigger and how that got me into wanting to know what casting is all about. Ruger makes a lot of cast steel fire arms. Now i dont have a muffler oven so i can melt steel. But it is rather exciting to see a fluid 3D print to cast object.
Ive seen some jewelers like Veg Oil Guy, and Clear Mind Jewellery. They have pretty precise stuff going on. So that is the real potential of fluid 3D print to cast metal object.
    Good stuff!
    Greetings,
    Jeff

Thanks Jeff! Yea resin 3d printing with vacuum investment is about as precise as you can get with casting. Lots of detail and cool geometry!

Could you put a seal around the edge of the vacuum pot and then get another steel circle and use that as the lid for the casting part, add a 3,4,or 5 in hole (whatever your flask OD is) with the perforated holes and then just use the vacuum pot and just swap tops depending on the either vacuuming plaster or casting?

You could, and this is done all the time. I decided to go with a casting table rather then doing that at first because the perforated flasks are a lot more expensive. I wanted to start out with an inexpensive way of vacuum casting before a started spending a lot of money on it. That said there are advantages to using a perforated flask and using the vacuum chamber instead of a vacuum table.

@@RealProjectTube ok. I’m new to casting. I was just wondering if that was possible. Thanks!

have U thought about just doing 1/2 of the model. vertical scale? then U just make 2, 1/2 molds = 1 solid mold! U can use solder/brase metal join the seams! good luck bud!

Did the parts you deleted from the video and you say I forgot to film have many scary scenes?

They in fact did! I would have had to rate the video R for lots of nudity!
