My Mamod Minor 2 and the smell of meths will forever remind me of Christmas 1958. It now sits in a cupboard, all polished up, but unable to run due to pin holes in the boiler after 66 years. A treasured possession. Thank you Mamod for all the happiness you gave so many over the years.

Me and my dad own a traction engine and steam lorry from mamod and luckily they both still can run. When they can't run, they'll still be kept as a treasured belonging to me. Thank you mamod for the fun we've had

Really gutted to hear this! I've had my TE1a since 1971 (runs on meth spirit - awesome smells!) and I restored it a couple of years ago. It is in prefect running order and looks almost new, and I hope to keep it running, most especially for my grandson (still one year old sadly) to enjoy when he is old enough, just like I did with my son, his dad. Thank you Mamod for enriching all stages of our lives with your amazing machines!

Between 1984 and 2004 I had 8 Mamod steam locos, about 2 dozen wagons and coaches as well as quite a bit of track (And, not to forget, the smallest of the steam engines). I visited the Mamod factory when it was in Slough. Owing to moves, first to the UK and then to Cyprus, I had to sell everything. I had a lot of fun with these locos, and I have good memories (especially of the 2 locos which I had converted to 0-6-0 wheel arrangement. They worked extremely well.

Very sad news and a great loss to the steam world. It was such a good way for children to learn about steam power.back in the 70s I pestered my father to have the traction engine model, but I had to wait till he was sure I would not burn the house down!🤣
I still have the engine hear on the shelf🙂

@@teescottageguyproductions so they are moving to a new workshop? I understand that they had some trouble with the fuel tablets but didn't think the trouble was as big as that. I was planning on getting the other version of their steam car or the other traction engine trailer the next time I visited my dad

I had an SR1, way back in the 1970s, it was 2nd hand and how I loved that thing. I had it JUST so, and you could leave it steaming up with the cylinder block JUST nearly aligned, so the pressure would allow a tiny bit of steam just to edge the flywheel round and off it would go, apparently of its own volition.. This required METICULOUS maintenance of course..
May I wish you every success with saving this historic company. You may be able to get help from English Heritage or some such body, after all, there can't be many people of a certain age who DON'T remember with fondness one of these excellent and highly educational machines or glorious toys. ❤️🌟👍

Best birthday present I ever received. Got the TE1a for my 10th birthday. It is still in my garage and every so often I fire it up and it has a run on the patio. Sorry to see the demise of Mamod and I hope the workforce get fixed up soon!

Many happy memories of my Traction Engine. Fuelled by meths, I can still see my mum chasing me along the hall, stamping on the trail of burning fuel before it burned the carpet. Happy days.

I can remember my Dad bringing home one of their traction engines back in 2004 that he was planning on giving my Grandpa as a special birthday gift. while he steamed the engine a few times my Grandpa was more interested in classic cars than steam engines so he ended up giving it to me as I was interested in steam power.

The government seems to have plenty of money to invest in foreign companies, small company like this should be looked after as a heritage and skills learning center. But hopefully you can manage to come back producing these fantastic models for another 75 years at least 😊 👍

Sad to hear there will be no more Mamod after all these years. They were my favourite toy. I saved to buy some and the Traction engine and steam wagon were presents. I sometimes used a pint of meths over two days and after steaming cleaned them up before putting them back in the box. I still have them all except the Minor1 that I took apart to use the boiler in a ship TE1, SR1, SE3, ME3, SW1 and the 3 railway locomotives first made which I made a meths burner for. I did not like the fuel tablets. The twin cylinder engine was the last to be steamed. I should get them all in steam again

In the 80s I wanted to sell it to by a guitar effect pedal & my dad told me a guy at his work wanted it so he took it to work & brought me home the cash. But when I was clearing the house following his death in 2004 I found it in a bag hidden in his wardrobe, clearly he felt I should keep it & had just given me the money. I’d like one day for my son to have it.
