At the age of thirty, I found myself lying on my bed in my childhood bedroom and staring up at the ceiling and thinking “ how did I get here?” I felt like I had hit rock bottom. My marriage had fallen apart, and I was forced to move back in with my parents as a fully grown adult. I was sitting there thinking “I’m humiliated, I’m ashamed, it probably doesn’t get much worse than this.”
One of the unexpected blessings of moving back in with my parents as an adult was that it helped me remember that my family loves me no matter what. That they are going to support me unconditionally. And if my family loves me that much, regardless of what I do, how much more does God love me? The things that my family did for me just spoke so loudly and reminded me that it honestly doesn’t matter how much I fail. When I offer my heart to them, they are there for me.
I feel like it’s the same thing with God. God doesn’t focus on my failures. All he asks of me is that I show up open handed and offer myself to him, flaws and all. He doesn’t just want us to know that we’re okay in spite of our mistakes, that his love is so big and miraculous that it wants to just sweep us up and make us feel truly known and whole. And that was the moment I knew that everything was gonna be okay. That I didn’t have to live in a state of shame or failure. Because God’s love was so much bigger, and more overwhelming, and more personal than I had ever known before.

Abbie, thanks for your story. Found you guys about a year ago. First song I heard was "My Feet Are on The Rock". Been listening ever since.
