I always find that it’s the most humble folks who say up front “I’m not a pro, I’m just learning” that actually have the strongest understanding of these core principles. That’s because it takes being open to what you don’t know to learn and grow. You are doing things better than many “pros” I’ve worked with because you are open to exploring what you don’t know, which means you’ll keep getting better and better. SUBSCRIBED.
The algorithm brought me here and I’m really happy. It’s so good that you don’t jump straight to color-grading, but start with the actual basics, that if you don’t know will make it virtually impossible to color-grade. I’ve learned it the hard way, so many useless, uneditable footages… so ppl, pay attention to this video!!! And I’m waiting for the next one. (I’m using DaVinci Resolve, even the free version is more than enough.)
Thank you very much. I was getting a lot of comments on settings so thought it would be a good idea to incorporate it in the color grading tutorial. If you haven't seen it already, part is already out.
fantastic guide. once i have the drone in the air i'm always too lazy to do the whole setup. As a result the filmed is mostly too bright And then always think of yourself in a shameful way. 😳😃👍
Thank you so much. I've been working hard to self-teach myself both drone photography/videography and (for lack of a better term) terrestrial photography/videography at the same time, and since I've gotten pretty good at exposing my image for "normal" color on the Air2S, I'm ready to move into D-log. Your video makes me more confident.
I just bought a drone and I´m trying to learn how to film well and also how to make a good color grading and you´re video is perfectly understandable thank you.
“AWESOME” this is the exact thing I was looking for since a long time. Thank you so much for this video. You are doing a great work by educating people on RUclips.
Thanks for producing this. I've warn out my mini and have been on the fence about the Air 2S. I'm going to buy one this week. This video pushed me over the top. Thanks
Thanks...Yeah, eventually you will grow out of the Mini and will need more out of your camera. I'm glad I was able to help...lol. Good luck with your new Air 2S
Another awesome one, thanks. I picked up an DJI Air 2S last month, and though controlled airspace around me has meant limited flying time, I'm itching to get into doing some drone photo and video work and this has really helped. Great work!
@@ChadB yes, when I was doing my research I decided it was the right balance of my needs. I could have waited and got the Mavic 3, but for the price the Air 2S seemed to have almost the same capabilities. It really packs a punch. My second unit, a sub 250g, is a Mini SE, and again I did a bit of research before buying. Although I am sort of wishing I held off until the Mini 3 Pro was released (I could have pre-ordered but instead wanted to get flying sooner). I'm glad I picked it up, it is a great unit, but the camera is much more versatile on the M3P.

Eagerly anticipating part 2. I have had hit and misses with drone footage, and I'm trying to pinpoint where I'm going wrong, so this is a big help. Keep up the great work!
Great video explaining the settings. With every DSLR or Mirrorless camera you're always told to overexpose at least one full stop when shooting in Log footage, I believe the same for a Drone. Also was just doing some research and you're supposed to use a base ISO of 400 I believe for D-Log footage for the Air 2S.
Good primer. I notice when show the screen in the video, all the little icons around the perimeter are larger than they are on my DJI Fly App display, even on my iPad Mini! Is there a way to increase the icon size in the Fly App? Thanks.

Thanks for the great video. I would love to see a D log vs HLG video. I noticed that when I keep my settings on auto with my air to us a lot of the highlights are getting blown out. Is this a common issue?
Yes when in auto, the camera automatically adjust the exposure for the light based in the lighting of the scene. So when your point the camera towards the ground, it will adjust for the ground. This results in the sky being overexposed and vice versa. You can only expose for one area at a time. You can also try keeping the camera level to the horizon and finding a middle ground where both are somewhat evenly exposed (when in Auto). You can do the same when in Pro mode, but difference is when you move the camera the exposure is locked in and it won't shift.
@@ChadB I understand what you are saying but I am knowledgeable enough to know that. No matter what I'm a sunny day in auto without a ND it's always a out +1.7 when it adjusts itself. Typically I run in pro mode but occasionally I use auto in a hurry. My air 2 seemed to Handle auto much better
Nice vid thank you. Is there any difference between using pro mode to maintain fixed exposure and using auto mode then locking exposure by tapping the screen?
Thank you. Yes there is a difference in terms of the motion blur. If you're in Auto mode without an ND filter, the camera compensates by increasing the shutter speed to get an even exposure. This can cause your footage to look jittery. You can get away with just putting on a ND Filter in Auto mode and the camera could ajust close enough to the 180 degree shutter rule to get the proper motion blur. Then you can lock the exposure so it does shift. But if you filming multiple shots in auto, the shutter speed could be different for each shot. With this method, you can also try locking the shutter speed and setting yhe ISO to auto.
Thanks for the video. one thing i wanna ask is, when you YAW your drone, the scenery stutters when moves. is that an SD issue? or just a transmission issue? Mine does this too but not noticable in saved videos that much.
I use it sometimes set closer to the infinity focus setting. This is just personal preference so when I'm moving through a scene it doesn't automatically pull focus to different areas. I don't notice much difference between that and AF

Great buddy
The constant judder (many times, but say at 6:27 for example) is caused by you filming in 24fps. Regardless of having your shutter speed twice the frame rate. When you pan, there is a ratio/rule governing how fast you can pan, you are exceeding it. If you shot this video again, exactly the same, but in 30fps - it won’t have the judder. Thanks for the great video. I would love to see a D log vs HLG video. I noticed that when I keep my settings on auto with my air to us a lot of the highlights are getting blown out. Is this a common issue?
