Nice cheeks! Not sure how it works but adding wood cheeks always brings out a vintage feel and adds some analog warmth. This 707 seems a like a cross between the JDXi and the circuit tracks. I have both and use them together sometimes which turns out pretty great usually.

I had these too and sold them after purchasing the MC707, These two combined are nothing like the 707 , especially after you get familiar with the menu and know where to find settings..
The MC707 has become the centerpiece of my dawless setup and there's weeks where I dont even start the computer, simply because I don't need to.

Having a secondary sound for 707 load is smart. I plan to use my SP sampler for that reason

Thanks for this response. I'll have to read the manual for the 707. I couldn't live without the probability and pattern options that I get in the circuit tracks like random and mutate and shifting the clock multiplier on individual patterns within a scene. It has great mixing and FX features as well as the side chain compression/ducking that it can do. Much more powerful sequencer than the JDXi, for sure. I am curious how that would compare to the 707 lemme go read the manual and find out. 😁👍

Not mentioned in the video, but if you use keyboard with drum tracks, you get GM sounds past the pads on the machine...i.e. 'hidden sounds'. You can't change them, though, but it's nice to expand a drum track with a few more sounds, even if you don't have a lot of say in what those sounds are.

  • @plasmaforce11

    • @haderlumpi

@@toddsmithmusic3172 It would be very cool to see how easy/complicated it is to create new patches on the Juno-X itself. I mean, ZenCore is pretty powerful. And you could create them using the desktop version and upload them to the Juno-X. But I would assume that the purpose of the Juno-X with all its knobs and sliders is to create presets on the machine itself, right? Strangely enough there aren't many videos out there where people actually create presets on those machines (Juno-X, Jupiter-X, Fantom, etc) ?

Something I haven't seen addressed in videos or I haven't found in the manual: if you have a key and scale setup for the pads, let's say C Minor, do incoming MIDI notes from an external keyboard that are not part of C Minor get filtered out, forced into scale, or all MIDI notes from an external keyboard are passed to the synth engine, even with a scale and key defined? Thanks for any insight.

  • @alecsbuga

The pads are not too shabby either. If you adjust gain and velocity.

Good suggestion. Too bad the 707 doesn’t have a program change for the tracks you could program to the controller. I know, that’s being lazy. 😅

Juno x is the same synth engine as mc707

    • @toddsmithmusic3172
      @toddsmithmusic3172  4 месяца назад +2

Not true 100% true my friend and something many have wrong. They share the “core” zen core engine, which all zen core synths have by default. 707 can’t have any expansions like Jupiter, Juno , Jd-8000 or any other synth, only the core engine. Juno-X comes with the Juno engine and can be expanded to Jupiter, JD, 101 and others. Then the Juno X engine is 100% exclusive to the Juno X. The 707 can’t do everything the Juno X can in terms of sound engines. Then the X can do higher poly count on the core engine which is shared between to two machines.

I can recommend both the Arturia Keystep or slightly bigger Keystep 37 for minimal tabletop real estate and composition/creation. For playing Live, I can recommend Cakewalk/ Roland's own A-PRO series, for its lightweight (gig-wise), sturdiness and deep editor (even SYSEX with automatic parity bit count etc. - Too bad Midi implementation is so limited on the MC-707 though). Both Arturia and Roland Keys feature channel after touch btw...

@@RonCavagnaro I have the AE-30 wind synth and to get to grips with it I downloaded the docs for all the other ZEN-Core synths. I discovered each has its own system overlaying the sound engine which changes up the capabilities of the instrument. I was surprised by the amount of differences.
The sound engine design is common but the functionality of the system layer and the preset sounds are customized to suit the particular interface.

@@toddsmithmusic3172 I must admit I was disappointed that the AE-30 can't load the models. I'm trying to get a good 303 sound but I'm having to build it from the waveforms in the Partials and the limited set of default filters and tweaking the other settings. That means it's probably going to sound more like the Volca Bass! 😀

I owned tye MC707 for sometime but I prefer the Maschine MK3 - not even a fair fight. Sure, its not a self contained groovebox (you need to use it with your lap top - but that makes a bigger screen essential) but its very portable and powerful and just so much more full of features. Sure - one is a Daw but it feels like a groovebox in many ways and the MC707 in many ways just feels like a mini Daw in a box. I think roland needs to redo this version - I owned the original groovbox when it came out and the MC909 and I still prefer both of those - with all their major flaws, to this. Bring back the synth UI for starters. Reduce the complexity - the whole point of a groovebox is that its simple but effective. Improve the sequencer workflow and then it could be a classic.

    • @toddsmithmusic3172

Your welcome to that opinion but I disagree. I feel 707 slaughters the classic groovebox and was a great product
