▶ In this video, I talk about the crazy proposal and movement to turn Idaho into a super state by adding to it the eastern part of Oregon and potentially northern California. Understanding the origins of this movement in the rural vs urban differences; how many of the counties in Oregon are actually supporting this; but how it is ultimately doomed to failing for the same reason it exists: they are outnumbered in the state when it comes to voters - in addition to the fact that Federal institutions would never allow it to happen due to the precedent it would set.

The problem with the underfunded state of IdaZaziHo annexing the poorest and most underfunded parts of Washington, Oregon and maybe even a sliver of California is that the state of "greater" IdaNaziHo would be flat broke and rapidly bankrupt. Back when the border between Montana and Idaho was made, Idaho was not concerned about size, or even $$. Gold was located in the mountainous area where Montana seems to take territory from Idaho, and Idaho didn't want it because they didn't want all the people coming in for a gold rush and bringing all of the problems with them. They actually wanted the gold cut out of their border, and the Federal Government honored that wish. Otherwise, I think both Montana and Idaho would be rectangles like Colorado and Wyoming. This was covered on an episode of a show called "How the States Got Their Shapes". Pretty interesting situations covered by the show.

It actually has a huge underlying issue, stemming from the fact that conservative populations and progressive populations aren't monolithic concepts but cover a wide range of perceptions on all of the issues. These terms are broad strokes, not strictly defined concepts of people who absolutely agree with each other. To give a typical example, there are many pro-gun Democrats and many pro-women's rights Republicans. There are laissez-faire Democrat capitalists, and there are Republicans who are so communal they're essentially living in a socialist mini-society.
It's just... not as simple as drawing a few new lines on a map. Once you get started, you're going to keep creating new lines if you want to pretend there's any consistency to the method. Without that, it's just arbitrary, so why do it at all?

I do agree that not "everyone" believes the same way in these regions - but this is essentially true everywhere, but at some point, you need to break down large geographical regions into manageable areas for governing. Ideally, the majority of the residents' interests should be represented by that government. They can and some quite viciously are so, because they hold a perspective that women don't have the rights they have. Their entire agenda is based on limiting women's rights to the exact level they want, and they'll keep the ones they do approve of. It's not an all-or-nothing proposition.
If we use a different example to understand this: dictators tend to be anti-human rights. They loathe free speech for example. Are we going to claim that they can't be anti-human rights, because dictators are undeniably humans?
The geography *is* broken down into manageable areas. Besides the state lines, there's counties with lower levels of government.
So you claim that rancher's needs are ignored. How exactly?

@@Melesniannon You need to sit down with a pro-life woman and ask your questions directly. Most pro-life women I know do not consider themselves anti-woman's right because they believe an unborn baby is another body not their own. Our own laws even support this notion - if someone assaults a pregnant woman and she miscarriages - that person can be tried for homicide.
Dictator example is not applicable. Rights are a shared mythology in free society, nothing more. We pick and choose them and define their constraints - there are no/few absolute rights. Even free speech is limited by liable. All rights have limits. Sometimes rights are suspended for a greater good (COVID lockdowns?).

Hello, good video, I’m from bend! Bend is in deschutes county, which I think is one of the last proposed counties to not vote. Deschutes county is overall pretty balanced between red and blue, but most of that blue comes from Bend, which is why greater Idaho’s proposal is to cut deschutes county in half, leaving bend in Oregon. That would be really weird because Redmond, a neighboring city that’s about a 25 minute drive away, would be in idaho. We Bendites drive to Redmond often because of the airport, so it’d be strange if that became an interstate thing.

The bypass started construction in 2009, and about half was finished in 2011. Still sits unfinished to this day, and currently puts any bypassing traffic onto neighborhood streets and as it stands won’t be completed till 2026(work is going to resume this summer apparently). Sounds like a conservative land grab to me. Why would an entire state cede all their airable land to a minority of folks who don't go to the cities anyway? Taxes from urban city districts support the infrastructure that extends into rural areas as well. Will there be a large enough tax base to support rural development, maintenance, sanitation, as well as conservation efforts to preserve the why of life people will expect? Yes, cities are noisy, dirty, costly, complicated, stressful, etc. etc. They are also convenient, diverse, vibrant, thrilling, collectivist, and offer economic opportunities. People from cities also enjoy the peace and quite the country offers as well. Why would cities want to give up all that land to a few people and never get to enjoy it, or feel unwelcomed if they just wanted to do some fishing, hiking, boating or hunting.

Yes they still need to eat, but they are also trying to make 90% of Eastern Oregonian food production illegal with a ballot measure, specifically, the "animal rights" ballot measure IP3. IP3, if passed, will break all treaties with Oregonian Native Americans by making illegal ALL of the following: Ranching, Animal husbandry, Hunting, Trapping, Fishing, and even training domesticated animals like dogs and horses. Even though it has been extensively proven that dogs are happiest when they know they are a helpful and supportive member of the pack, the animal rights activists say that training them is "animal abuse." If the measure passes, it will criminalize most of the businesses their, who despite making deficits still have to pay tax because, rather than taxing net income, the geniuses in Salem thought it to be a good idea to tax gross income, these poor farmers, if convicted of violating this ballot measure, will be fined heftily, and due to them not having money from their failing businesses, they will either lose everything from repossession by the state, or they'll be forced into prison if they can't pay, where they will then be put to work for no pay because slavery is still legal in prison.

The electoral college favors middle America. The electoral votes for New York and California are dwarfed by Republican states. The way the electoral college works, you could win the presidency with something like 14% of the popular vote.

One point brought up by a proposal for western Minnesota counties to merge with South Dakota is the dilution of representation in the state legislature. Even though the reason for that move is ostensibly the same as the Oregon/Idaho situation, the objection is that existing South Dakotan population would lose some of their seats, thus diminishing their influence due to the auslanders coming in.
Another point which you wouldn't have covered in a geography-oriented channel is the financial effects. My understanding is that the eastern Oregon counties receive more in services and such from the state agencies than they pay in state taxes. This situation is unlikely to change and one wonders if Idaho would want to inherit a negative balance of payments. This could be exacerbated if the state of Oregon pulled all of their personnel, equipment, vehicles, supply contracts, etc from the seceding counties - requiring Idaho to replace those items as part of their new counties.

@@Lavonne1 it is good for both states, over 59% of Portlanders voted to allow the East to leave because it would allow their tax revenue to be used on causes that are closer to them. Currently, the reason for the Eastern counties being poor is because of the neglect and abuse of Salem and its heavily restrictive policies. Salem centralized water rights and won't allow the Eastern farmers to irrigate their farmland, even though they want to grow food crops. Additionally, Salem has placed exorbitant taxes upon diesel fuel, the tractors, combines, and other vehicles don't come in electric, making diesel the only viable means of farming in the East. Salem has also foisted upon Oregonians a completely unreasonable income tax, that rather than taxing net income, taxes gross income, meaning that even though these farmers and ranchers make a deficit, they are still forced to pay income tax. yes, despite making NEGATIVE INCOME, they still must pay income tax.
the reasons for them making negative income includes but is not limited to 1) the aforementioned diesel taxes, 2) they are not allowed to kill violent wolves without approval from Salem, which takes weeks to months to be heard, often times being rejected despite thousands of dollars worth of livestock being poached by wolves. and 3) the aforementioned water restrictions that restrict the ability for farmers and ranchers to produce sufficiently.
Additionally, Salem is pushing a ballot measure to make 90% of food production in Eastern Oregon illegal. Due to being a desert climate that only grows grasses and shrubbery, the main food source from the East is ranching, hunting, trapping, fishing and animal husbandry, all of which will be made illegal under "animal abuse" if IP3 "the animal rights" ballot measure passes the 2024 November ballot. Not only will the aforementioned practices by criminalized, but so will the training of domestic animals like dogs and horses, because according to Portlander "animal rights activists" training dogs is considered "animal abuse," despite the fact that dogs are happiest when they know they are being productive, helpful, and supportive members of the family.
If IP3 passes in November 2024, hundreds of thousands of Eastern Oregonians will be criminals, and if they don't abandon their businesses, will be fined. Due to them making negative income from the insane policies Salem forces upon them, they will be unable to pay the hefty "animal abuse" fines and will have their homesteads, livestock, and other assets confiscated by the state, or they will be incarcerated and put to work as slaves for no pay, because slavery is a legal punishment for conviction.
Oregon has already centralized water and resource rights, and now they are attempting to centralize food rights, in addition to the legislation being pushed by Salem to confiscate all tax revenue from the counties to then "redistribute how they see fit," taking a page straight out of Bonito Mussolini's handbook, like the tyrannical dumpster fascists they are.
Western Oregonian citizens don't want their tax revenue being used to abuse and mismanage the East, while the Eastern populations don't want to be abused and mismanaged. Both East and West Oregonian citizens support this proposal on the ballot.

Also, I've seen many instances where someone asks an Eastern Oregonian about why they wish to be absorbed into Idaho. They say things like they "don't like how people live in Portland." So the very idea that people exist in the same state as they are and are not like them, hurts them. It's 100% creepy and weird. It's also short sighted and selfish to try to destroy an entire state, rather than just move to the plethora of conservative states around them. There are so many to choose from. But they think the world should go out of it's way to accommodate them. Yuck.

The democrats are literally attempting to enslave the people of Eastern Oregon by criminalizing their only food production, in an "animal rights" ballot measure on the ballot in November 2024, if passed the measure will break all treaties with the native Americans by making illegal ALL of the following: animal husbandry, ranching, hunting, trapping, fishing, and even the training of domesticated pets like cats and dogs. Due to Eastern Oregon being a high desert, food crops don't grow there due to scarce water, meaning animals are their only local food source.
Not only that, but Salem is centralizing the water and other natural resources, not allowing them to water crops even when they try to do so! Additionally, Salem is pushing legislation to confiscate all taxes from the Eastern counties to "redistribute how they see fit" full MUSSOLINI STYLE!

They are so poor that they are unable to do so, especially with the ballooning prices caused by the mass influx of people moving to Idaho. Virtually all the farmers ad ranchers in Eastern oregon are making a deficit every year because the state wont allow them to defend their livestock from being poached by wolves. The state also centralized the water rights so the Easterners can't sufficiently produce food crops. The corporate income tax is on gross income rather than net income, meaning that even when the ranchers and farmers make NEGATIVE income, they still must pay income tax. This decimates small businesses all across the state, not just the East. Plus, the state is attempting to make illegal 90% of Eastern Oregon's food production via the IP3 ballot measure on the 2024 November ballot. The supposed "animal rights" ballot measure will, if passed, make ALL of the following illegal: Ranching, animal husbandry, Hunting, Trapping, Fishing, and even training domesticated animals like dogs and horses. All of these activities will, if IP3 passes, be considered "animal abuse" and hefty fines will be levied upon those farmers who are already indebted. Due to their inability to pay these hefty fines, the state will either confiscate their homes, livestock, and other assets, or throw them in Prison to work for free as slaves, because slavery is legal as punishment for conviction.
On top of centralizing the water rights, the resource rights, and now even the food rights, Salem is also pushing legislation to forcibly confiscate all the tax revenue from counties to then "redistribute how they see fit" taking a page straight from Bonito Mussolini's handbook, like the tyrannical dumpster fascists they are.

This was just clickbait when you said, "This may actually happen." Just because a radical minority makes an idea does not mean it's going to go through. I live in Washington state and have a lot of knowledge about the states you discussed. I know that Oregon is so much a blue state, even in the rural parts, that Urban vs. rural would not be enough for the proposal to pass because you can't divide the state between blue or red, the population is too spread out around the whole state for even 1 city to split off based on blue or red, the majority population of any location would not vote in favor of the proposal, even if you selected rural cities in the east and took their majority, it would always be a minority vote which cannot pass on a ballot. There may be a small minority in eastern oregon who want to join idaho, but not a large enough population to justify adding the idea to the ballot because it would make a large population have to migrate across the border to the real Oregon, its not like "east is red, west is blue" its more like 90% blue statewide and 10% red... also, the fact that eastern Washington wasn't included despite having a red minority too is more evidence that it was not meant to be a real proposal. Also, the biggest thing is that you need approval from all the other states for this border change to occur, which will never happen. I guess I can see northern California doing that, but Oregon will probably just split up into several separate states rather than merge with Idaho if this idea ever actually went through.

“It’s more like 90% blue and 10% red” dude you’re insane. Are you a kid and you don’t leave your house or something? I have lived in both eastern Washington and eastern Oregon my whole life and you’re insane if you think joining Idaho is just a minority opinion. Homie doesn’t leave his bubble inner city and it shows.

Portlanders voted 59% in favor of letting the East join idaho, everyone but the politicians agrees that self-determination is a good thing.
The Eastern oregonians of this movement are not Radicals, the radicals are in Salem who force them to pay income tax when they make a deficit. yes, due to corporate gross income tax, people must pay income tax despite making NEGATIVE income. The radicals are the tyrants in Salem who are attempting to make illegal 90% of the Eastern Oregonian food production by making all of the following illegal: Ranching, Animal husbandry, huting, trapping, fishing, and even the training of domesticated animals like dogs and horses. if IP3, the "animal rights" ballot measure, passes in the November 2024 ballot, it will turn hundreds of thousands of impoverished homesteaders into criminals, and because they are taxed to high hell even when they make negative income, they will be unable to pay the hefty "animal abuse" fines levied upon them, meaning that either the state will confiscate their homestead, animals, and other assets, or they will be imprisoned and put to work as a slave for no pay, because slavery is legal punishment for conviction.
In fact, the reason these Eastern Oregonians can''t make money is because the Oregonians can't even kill a violent wolf without approval from Salem, even when the wolf kills thousands worth of livestock. The request takes weeks to go through, and oftentimes is rejected by Salem, and of course, rather than reimburse the damages caused by the policy, Salem instead taxes the farmers who make negative income. Another reason they can't make income is there is no such thing as an electric farming tractor, and the diesel taxes levied by the "environmentalists" who actively abandon forests to let them burn, affecting neighboring farmers who own property by the unmanaged forests make the farmers business impossible when combined with wolves poaching livestock. Oregon is actively refusing to allow people to remove dead trees from forests, which are highly fire starters that cause decimation when not removed. They will watch the forest burn with glee because they want to preserve its "natural state," which when untouched will become overgrown, trees will starve out their competition, killing them, ensuring their own demise by generating copious amounts of mismanaged firewood. What those green idiots fail to realise is that we humans are a part of nature, and the planet has gotten 50% greener specifically because of us, according to NASA themselves. Of course, when a mismanaged forest causes a fire, the farmers who border the forest who have their entire livelihood burnt to ash are, OF COURSE, ONCE GAIN, NOT reimbursed for the damages, but instead TAXED when they make negative income.
Eastern Oregon is not poor by their own incompetence, but the incompetent malevolence of the tyrannical state who stomps all over them, neglects them, and abuses them.
Additionally, Oregon has centralized the water rights, meaning that the farmers and ranchers who want to grow food crops in the east are literally banned from doing so. If IP3 passes, this means that Oregon has centralized both water AND food rights, along with the other resource rights they've already centralized. Furthermore Salem is pushing legislation to forcibly confiscate all tax revenue from the counties and "redistribute it as they see fit," taking a page straight out of Bonito Mussolini's handbook, like the tyrannical dumpster fascists they are.
90% of the issues that Eastern Oregonians complain about are inherently NONpolitical, which is why both sides of the state can agree on this solution..
