Truffle Kerfuffle

Australia will produce about three tonnes of truffles this year and at a top price of $2,500 a kilogram you might think growing the black fungus is a license to print money. However the majority of growers in Australia can't even cover their costs. This weekend in Western Australia the Truffle Growers' Association is holding its annual general meeting and while the export potential has been on the agenda, so too has the mystery of why so many trufferies have failed to live up to expectations.
