Disagree, just like alcohol, sometimes willpower isn't enough to simply overcome. If you work and they're constantly bringing pizza, pasteries, cakes, donuts every day, it's very hard to not want it every day. and sure 99/100 days you can say no, but eventually exposure can win. If you're using all your willpower to say no to certain things, then you will loose will power else where. Will power is a finite resource. willpower is connected to a limited reserve of mental energy, and once we run out of that energy, we're more likely to lose self-control.

I'm 35, and have been severely depressed and suicidal since I was 8 years old. Bunch of different meds and different Psychs and Dr's. I am currently a service technician so I am always on the road and the temptation of stopping at places to stop and grab something is incredible. I was drinking 3-4 Nos's a day and eating garbage for 2 years straight. I got to a point I said enough and cut out the sugars and carbs and have not looked back since. I have been doing Keto for about 9 months now and I can say it single handedly changed my life. First time I can remember not feeling like death was a great option. And I'm also proud to say I have been completely med free for 2 months (after carefully weaning myself off for the last 2 months or so prior). I feel great!

I am no fan of "Keto" true believers (I struggle with any "true believers") but after 8 weeks of a Keto/paleo diet with intermittent fasting (not eating after dinner till 1pm) as per the youtube videos of Dr Stan Ekberg, I have lost 9 Kgs and am slimmer than I have been in 12+ years. However, as a motocross racer (MX) I have struggled with energy until about 8 weeks in when suddenly my mind cleared and I have heaps of energy. I'm still to figure out how to store or create the energy required for high intensity MX racing but that will come after I get to my goal weight (a loss of around 17 Kg's).
Insulin resistance is a big thing, if you look into that it might help you work out how and why your work so far hasn't achieved what you wanted.

I was on a whole foods plant based HIGH CARB diet for about five years because I thought it would prevent heart disease. Instead, I gained 40 pounds, had to start taking PPI's for acid reflux and EoE, and eventually started taking duloxetine for anxiety. About 6 months ago, I decided to make a change. I ditched the grains, started eating more animal proteins, and ate more sweet potatoes instead of white or red potatoes. I have a very similar story, but it came after I suffered a stomach ulcer after a very stressful semester of law school. Like you, I was told that a "whole, natural" diet of vegetables and whole grains was the answer. But, my acid reflux persisted. I had days where my heartburn was so bad that I thought I was having a heart attack. I chalked it up to anxiety and it being a mental issue. However, one day I randomly stumbled upon a video by Dr. Ken Berry where he said that if you eliminate carbs, your acid reflux goes away. Figuring I had nothing left to lose, I went down from 300 carbs a day to about 90-130 carbs a day. After 10 days, my acid reflux literally went away. The center of my chest hasn't hurt one time either. It's insane how we can live so long thinking we're bound to a miserable fate, and then one day randomly we find out that everything can be changed. That's literally what happened to me!

Since I started I have lost over 12lbs and I was overly obese I was maybe 20lbs overweight. The one interesting thing I did notice was how when I jogged my sciatica no longer flared. Then if I decided to cheat and go carb crazy that day my sciatica would kill me. When I went back on Keto no pain. So I assume it’s due to inflammation but whatever it is what I feel is real.

They were active and their metabolisms were healthy, as proof in their longevity and good health. Not everyone needs to go keto, if they are aware of their carb intake, remain 100g per day and lower and eat clean and healthy fats too. But our sedentary lives, constant snacking and processed foods, plus bad advice about eating grains, bread, cereals and so on, has wrecked my metabolism and my husband’s. Thankfully we found this before insulin resistance turned into T2D and we are healthier now than the last 2 decades. I wish I hadn’t relied on the food pyramid for structure in my diet. That’s what caused the weight gain, endless hunger, insulin resistance. I was doing research to help my T2D brother. Found the health benefits of keto, tried it in my house with success, told my brother and he is down a hundred pounds and almost off his meds. If I had known better, I could have lived more like your parents and grandparents.

The amount of mental focus, clarity of thought, peace of mind, complete destruction of anxiety and depression you feel living on fat (ketone) fuels is staggering. You feel strong. I am 51. I feel like the 25 year old Greg I'd lost. Far as diet goes it's easy. You are almost never hungry on this diet. You don't really want to eat much. People lose a lot of weight because you make your fat stores your main fuel source. It's pretty terrific.

I'm a firm believer in what D'Agostino says around 16;00. I transitioned to keto-adaptation very slowly. I did it through fasting more than diet (though, certainly, fasting is facilitated through a higher fat, ketogenic-type diet). It seems like the cells, or the mitochondria, are trained, persuaded, honed over time to become receptive to ketones, and the liver becomes convinced to produce them. With a slow transition like this, all manner of cheating is possible with no negative consequences. I love being keto-adapted. The ability to work and/or play all day without food, hunger or energy loss is so liberating.

I was having problems with stress and depression. I have got back on keto and I feel better all the way around. I don't care about the fitness or athletic part - just the mental well-being benefits of keto make me want to stay on this permanently.

The brain is mostly fat so building a brain with a fat based diet makes sense. EFAs lines the myelin sheath. When you get holes in it MS happens. Other mental illnesses can be helped with EFAs. Omega 6 is more important than omega 3. A teaspoon or 2 of cold pressed sunflower tastes great and is loaded with omega 6. Flax oil for omega 3, about 1/2 tsp. Stay away from processed oils and fish oil.

I discovered I was lactose intolerant and every time I ate bread I felt like it didnt digest all the way...i felt terrible and I love bread...so I went no wheat products i.e gluten free. After a month of not eating wheat products my lactose intolerance was reversed. I had a milkshake from cold stones and I was fine.
I use to drink soda, sweet ice tea etc...and everytime I did I would get bloated, I had a soda gut and I was addicted to soda. I didnt care so much for sweets and candy or cakes just soda. So I gave up soda and felt weak and hungry... all this was before I ever heard of keto diet. Now that I have I can manage my no wheat/carb no sugar way of eating and it's much easier...I never was one to count calories or measure what I eat....who has time? But mainly I eat what I want minus carbs and sugar and I fast intermittently... l can see my soda gut disappear and I have more energy. I never hand energy to lift weights before but now I do...keto is not a diet it's just how man ate for thousands of years. Think about it...our ancestors didnt eat sugar or refined carbs....they ate veggies grains (whole non gmo) meat( grass fed free roaming) eggs etc they ate real food. Go to any supermarket and besides the meat, fish and fresh greens sections(to some extent).....the rest of supermarket is just processed refined junk that's keeping us sick or killing us slowly

I tried low carb in 1996 1998 and 2002, problem is that with the lack of information i felt terrible each time, and was not doing it right, the weight fell off but when i was in ketosis i never adapted.
My sport doctor went to a conference in California on cancer and the ketogenic diet and when he came back he had lots of information, mainly about electrolytes how to use them to avoid the keto flu, type of training and how to mix some intermittent fasting with keto to get sick results.
I started keto 2 weeks ago and just added fasting a bit, i also got a good multi vitamin, extra C and D3, and some biotin to keep my hair, so far everything is going great, sodium potassium and magnesium everyday and added collagen and arginine.
Very excited to see how things will go my sport doctor ask me to shed at least 20 to 30 pounds with keto fasting and training i am not sweating this at all.
