Megatron is a megalomaniac. While I'm not exactly saavy with Transformers lore, Megatron was at some point a very upstanding being who proved himself time and time again as a capable fight and leader. Megatron even became very good friends with Orion Pax, or Optimus. Unfortunately, when Magatron presented his ideas to the council of Primes, wanting to be chosen as one himself, his ideas were deemed too radical and thus rejected. Then stepped in Orion, whose words ringed true with the Primes. Rejected and betrayed, this is where Megatron would start all out war. There's a little bit of discrepancy on both sides, one claiming Megatron to be a fighter for the cybertronians of lower class, while others believed he was downright evil from the start.
It takes a certain psychology to be able to un-hesitantly kill someone who was once his sworn brother. As optimus and megatron have said multiple times in bayverse they were “brothers once”, likely by oath as cybertronians have no blood relations or geneology, besides a few exceptions. Optimus has only killed megatron once, Optimus intended to let megatron live in the first movie by sacrificing himself but Sam had other plans, and in the second Optimus lets him and stsrscream leave with medium injury, sparing both their lives, even after megatron killed Optimus just days before. I think megatron was for the people at some point but that doesn’t mean he was good, he always turned to to violence as an answer.

It’s because he wants to conquer them not kill them. He’s a transformer supremacist, and wants to perserve the species since there not many left. Optimus in contrast views decepticons as evil(which they are) and must be destroyed to save his new home earth, himself and the autobots, and the human race. Idk why people keep saying prime looks like a villain for kiilling genocidal terrorists who have killed him and his allies.
In my own Fanfic if this series Megatron loses in the first book, Dead in the 2nd, returns with a vengeance in the 3rd, is Galvatron at this point in the 4th, in the 5th he's still just throwing out his anger issues that are becoming more common, and finally Galvatron is left to presumably die in Unicron in the 6th. Not the best, but Megatron does get some wins. Even of they are not entirely in his favor. For example killing Optimus Prime, successfully orchestrating Sentinel’s betrayal, attacking Autobot City in the 4th, even hunting down AND successfully retrieving the Matrix of Leadership from Sideswipe's chest AKA ripping it out with Energon leaking everywhere. Gruesome scene I imagined and Wrote. At the beginning of the 6th no less
Megatron did kill Jazz, but for the most part, ever since Revenge of the Fallen, the Decepticons got nerfed more and more. Plus while Megatron did hold some fondness towards Starscream (if The Last Knight is any indication) I don’t think he cares much for most of his other troops. So yeah, he doesn’t think much of his soldiers and even if he did, they are too inept and he’s been weakened to a severe degree so he couldn’t get revenge even if he wanted to.
actually in the original script they had him eating autobots and shredding them but the studio said that was too graphic at the time for 2006-7 (don’t ask me why, i know there are countless other scenes that are on that line as well) and it being primarily targeted to a younger audience but ya know get your views i guess

The Cybertronian eye colors have a meaning. While the red eyes are a sign of the Decepticons, they have them because they are guided by their anger. Green means you don't give a duck about anyone and blue is standard as far as I know. There is also yellow but I don't know what that means

Megatrons story ark makes no sense to me in the bayformers. He wants to "rebuild" cybetron, his homeworld that he himself, was the sole reason of cybertrons destruction.
